It is indeed that very same Freeman.

Freeman has some Dangerfield to him. He's also been compared by others to Luke Shuey. Not quite as tall as Dangerfield but can do some similar things and with time hopefully can become nearly as dominant.

Strong bodied, wins his own footy and hits the scoreboard but then also has an immense burst of speed for an inside type and some real agility which with his strong body and ability inside games him one of the best in the draft. He can struggle accumulating the big numbers of some of the others and doesn't win that same outside ball as many of the other elite midfielders but as with Dangerfield I'm not fussed by that because of the he can turn games and just hope that the ability to find more ball more often comes later as he builds his endurance.

Once some footage comes out of his game I expect the demand will be high with Dangerfield one of the more recent real breakout types.

If the Saints end up with #3 is he too early at that pick IYO? Assuming Boyd and Aish are gone for instance, is he better than Dunstan?

No way, by the sound of it, that he'd last to our second pick at #22

You'd want to be pretty confident with Freeman.

You don't pick a guy because his game is similar to some other established player but rather because their game matches up favourably to the next guy.

Freeman early is tempting but Scharenberg would likely be the choice early after Boyd and Aish as a more sure thing and a more immediate guy you can rely on from game one.

Still plenty of football to be played so I'm still open to moving him up my draft board as I am with others. Freeman and Bontempelli as the two who are generally considered outside the top 10 will be two of the guys I'll be watching for over the second half of the season because they both really have something, but just how good that something is I'm still determining on large part by the development they show in this final portion of the season to really demonstrate to me their upside and that they have more growth in their games than the next guys who are similarly rated.

Was pretty shocked to see you rated Boyd ahead of Hogan.

Hogan is already dominating against men at VFL level and if he progresses as expected he could kick 50+ goals in his rookie season in 2014.

Not many first year players have done that before, but Hogan is every chance.

Patrick McCartin's form this year surely stamps him as the number 1 17 year old. Attacks the ball with Jonathan Brown like aggression and has the best hands going around. Going to be a very big and powerful man.

Think he'd struggle to do that with Melbourne's delivery ;)

Jesse's on track to kick about 50 in the VFL, I'd say.

The one area where Boyd clearly has it on him are set shots.

Hogan's been sorting out a set shot routine this year, and only recently has switched to one I'd say is sound technically (run straight, kick straight, low ball drop) - so while he's still kicking goals he's a bit inconsistent with that so far.

Obviously everyone here who has read Knightmare's predictions before hugely respects his views.

If you rate Martin/ Boyd better than Hogan then they must be unbelievably good. Can't wait to see them play.

It's a toss of the coin call. Both dominant key forwards. Boyd is taller so I'd take him first, but only just. You'd take either if you had the shot.

McCartin had a strong game yesterday didn't he?

Has a chance to go high next year.

I'd take Sheed in a heart beat at Collingwood, if he can do a Grundy and fall to us...FAP.

I'd certainly have him high on my draft board if available.

Martin is a beauty. Gold Coast insiders rate him ahead of O'Meara which I don't. But he's a heck of a talent with his freakish pace, ability overhead and balanced inside and outside game. Once he puts some size on his frame he has the opportunity to become the best in this draft.

Boyd and Hogan are both in that same conversation. Both very dominant and can both become near franchise key forwards.

If Boyd is as good as Hogan it will take one hell of a trade to pry him from GWS via the No. 1 pick. As KM said earlier GC are probably the only club with the large 'range' of assets' (including their first round pick) to come up with a suitable trade - this was said given the premise that the established clubs have shown reluctance to let good players go.. GWS will drive a very hard bargain as you would with a clear No. 1 who is also the rare tall/powerful player. Would not be surprised to see GWS end up picking him up. Insurance for the injured Patton.

Gorringe, Day and a pick upgrade to be determined would probably be around what I think could be a good two way deal and what I'd consider the value for Boyd.

No club gives up their no.1 overall selection easily, well maybe Fremantle 12 years ago but with the view that the no.1 overall selection should be the best in the draft and a real hope seller to fans and the value to the club with the pick is always going to be big.

Hey Knightmare what do you think of Ben Cavarra? He was the best and fairest of the Eastern Ranges last year as an underager; only the 2nd bloke to do that behind Sam Mitchell.

What are his strengths, weaknesses? Where do you think he'll go?
Cheers

George Hampson for me. The others are more the class users but Hampson is more a high motor guy who can run and carry. He fits Sydney's personality profiling. As a late draft selection would be a solid choice.

If you want a guy who takes the game on Marlon Motlop is that ultimate choice with his pace and run and carry exceptional. But unsure he fits that Sydney profile as a player you can just imagine running around in a Sydney jumper while Hampson is exactly that type of guy.

hey knightmare.do u really think k. Kolodjashnij would make it to the swans?he is touted as a top 10 on the new eye catcher video!p.s lloyd perris a swan do u think?thx

Say north get pick 7 or 8 any chance of McDonald not being bidded by another club?
Boyd, scharenburg, Aish, billings, Kelly, sheed all possibilities to be ahead of him? Any chance of going to second round or you still have him firmly in the top 5 bracket?

Cavarra is a good one. Runs all day. Has a strong inside game, strong tackler. Good but not a super damaging user of the footy. Has some Jarryd Blair to him where he can play but at the next level won't be your best player.

Late/rookie draft he could be a find but with Hartung and Taylor to go early and Honeychurch really making a strong case for himself in recent weeks it's unclear who he goes in front of with Hartung, Taylor and Honeychurch having some more weapons to their games.

Kolodjashnij is a good one. He has the opportunity to get drafted somewhere around pick 10 with his form exceptionally impressive this season.

Lloyd Perris is a very good one and Sydney will make sure he's a Swan. He's a two way running midfielder who runs all day, fits the character profile as a real worker with future leadership potential and he wins his own footy. He's a guy a smart club would put a 1st round bid on.

There is a chance. Boyd, Aish, Scharenberg and Kelly will be those first picked.

After that it's open to interpretation with Dunstan/Lennon/Gardiner/McDonald that probable next group who could go in any order.

The Dogs given their poor list wide footskills would have to take a strong look and would consider McDonald along with Lennon, Billings and Gardiner if they're looking tall those others who would be on their list.

McDonald could be viewed as being worth a selection anywhere in that 5-8 range so perhaps McDonald could slip into the second round but more likely than not he's a first rounder.

I cant see GWS doing any more trading with the GC. I doubt they were happy that two of the 17 year old pre-draft picks went to the GC. After all they are in strong competition.

thanks knightmare cheers!

I'm not sure where this claim that 'playing school footy' has held Mitch back at all. Mitch played U18 with Nth Adelaide and some Reserves SANFL with North last year (and kicked goals). This year he has continued playing school footy with St. Peter's College (same school as Riley Knight), but has not been held back from State matches by the school at all.
Riley has had the exact same commitments to school as Mitch and Riley has rocketed up the draft board.
The recruiters watch most of the College games anyway and so will have a very clear idea as to what they can and can't do from there. Mitch will get picked where he deserves to be picked, the school matches haven't hidden him at all. Sorry no bargains here anymore!
Thanks. I guess that's the question. What does Mitch lack that other tall's that are expected to be taken higher don't. He is a good size and clubs are crying out for KPF's.

Mitchell is a good one.

Just watched the first half of the game v Metro this morning and Mitchell at ground level with his pickups is very impressive and even at 195cm 97kg is roving well. Has some goal sense. But then also strong overhead, quick on the lead and converts from his set shot attempts. I like his game and 2nd/3rd round is around what you're looking at with him.

He sounds like what we need. It looks like Taberner will play more as a CHF for us. so If Mitchell is more of a full forward type that will work well for us. Thanks for the info Knightmare.

Apparently Perris is a Scholarship player (as well as part of the Academy), which means that we don't have to bid for him. Looks like we'll be putting him straight on the list with our last pick!
