Dees won't get a priority pick. The assessment takes into account the number of top pick players in a club and their age.

To even wish for one from dees fans is criminal. Has everyone forgotten what that $500,000 fine for was already?

Melbourne's picks will be on the table for sure. Adelaide will be desperate to trade into this draft as missing 2 National drafts will leave a massive hole in their list in 4 - 5 years time. I guess that is why Sloane is linked to a trade. Adelaide will have to give up something good for the sake of their future. Clayton said that the GC were desperate to get into the mini draft in part to stagger the age profile of their list. No doubt they will continue this strategy.
Melbourne will be keen to get some mids with experience. Melbourne also have a surplus of tall forwards. GWS are also keen to get in some experience. So I expect some trade action at seasons end.

why would adelaide get rid of a 23 year old midfielder approaching his prime who they have put all this development into and who is about to become elite just to get an 18 yearold untried who they could start the process all over again with? and the minidraft is over it it was only for those 2 years so i dont see them continuing it

They may not trade Sloane but they need to trade into the draft or face a massive hole in the age profile of their list in 4 or 5 years time. The Saints stuffed up their recruiting/drafting up and are paying for it now. Geelong managed their's well. Its not about emotional ties to a player or his ability its about making tough decisions for the good of the clubs future and backing in recruiters ability. They may get 2 reasonable picks for Sloane if they decide to trade him. Collingwood 2012 draft is a prime example of trading into a draft to top up with young players therefore altering the age profile of the list. They had a number of fairly early picks and backed their recruiters in to get talent. So far it looks like its working (how other clubs let Grundy & Kennedy slip?) without having to bottom out. I am sure other clubs would have taken note of this strategy. Melbourne are at the other extreme with to many young players on the list.

wellingham was far from a critical player for them, sloane is like adelaides swan or pendllebury most critical midfielder after dangerfield you dont give those guys up, and dawes was on the outer, agreed though collingwoods strategy last year definetly set them up for the next few years along with their rookie recruits who seem to be guns, how was dwyer a rookie, however adelaide dont have a list as advanced as collingwood that could try a strategy like that and giving sloane up would set them back quite a few years

Not to do with this draft.

But who is the consensus number 1 pick at this stage for next years draft?

Hugh Goddard.

Patrick McCartin is hot on his heels though and with further improvement has the ability to go past him.

And for 2015?

Read somewhere on here it could be between Ethan Burnett and Greg Clark.

KM,

I'm just wondering because somebody on our board was saying that bulldogs from this draft are chasing Billings, Conlon, McCarthy and Hardigan? Who is Hardigan? I assume if he's correct it would be billings first, the two talls battling for our second pick and Hardigan from our third.

Probably talking about Hourigan.

McCarthy is unlikely to slip past the first round. Conlon and Hourigan are both probable 2nd rounders if the drat was tomorrow so I'd say whoever came up with that list of names is fairly optimistic that some talls will slide further than expected.

I don't follow the u16s so I'm not in a position to comment. Just don't have the resources to watch more than the u18s/afl/vfl/sanfl/wafl when I have a full time job and other interests.
I'm sure clubs will already have formed opinions on these players though.

Still no Jake Kolodjashnij in your draft?

He may get drafted but it's a boarderline choice and when you feel a guy is a boarderline choice it's usually because they're a guy you wouldn't draft.

Jake didn't go in the bigfooty trial phantom draft either so it seems like I'm not the only one who feels this way.

But then again it's not a deep year for key defenders so he can get drafted late/rookie. It only takes one team.

14 teams nominated him, apparently. :thumbsu: I know he doesn't have the profile of his brother, but was outstanding during the carnival, and he looks very good at TSL level. Pretty confident he'll be drafted. Start of the year I was about 50/50 on him, now I am 85/15. Launceston FC is becoming a bit of a footy factory

You'll enjoy my next update. Think Jake has worked himself up to a certain national draft pick.

Very nice. I find it hard to call where he'll go (25-45 at a guess), just reckon he will go. Will be good to see where you place him on your PD.

KM - are there any dour hard arse defenders, your classic back pocket types, who will go late in this draft (kids or mature agers)?

I'm thinking the type of kid nobody really gets excited about, then goes on to have a 150-200 game career, loved by his club but not really noticed by anyone else? Would love a real lock down small defender at the Bulldogs (and to be honest I'd love a gun rebounding HBFer too but I assume round 1 or 2 will take care of that).

Guy Dickson (Oakleigh Chargers) is someone who could fit that profile. He can do a Jeremy Howe up forward and leap tall buildings but down back has played a very disciplined game this season and has done his job every week playing mostly on talls and beating them all but can also play smaller.

Zac Jones (brother of Nathan) is another dour hard nosed defender who could play a role for you.

Both if drafted have the opportunity to find a role for a team.

There are some rebounding back flankers to look at also. As mature agers you could do worse than look at George Hampson and Brayden O'Hara. Josh Glenn is another dynamo rebounder. Isaiah Miller and Tom Langdon as tall rebounding defenders with some class are both also excellent choices.
James Battersby is probably one of the more expensive back flankers and will require a 2nd rounder if you want him but as a ball user he's one of the most precise in this draft as the highest efficiency kick from the u18 champs.

Knightmare Swans desperately need a crumbing forward that provides good pressure and tackles well, who is the best available?

As a pressure/crumbing forward I like Jarrod Stokes as a rookie. Extreme speedster who has an impressive chase and tackling game but can also crumb.

What if we used our first pick on Taylor or Kennedy Harris?

Both Taylor and Kennedy-Harris are both better midfielders than Stokes but not as pressure forwards.
Kennedy-Harris is an effective crumbing forward but not as explosive and not as able to provide that same maniac pressure. Taylor despite having extreme pace is more a midfielder only with his tackle pressure below average.

Thanks for the info :thumbsu:
