Disagree. Pickett will only ever be a small forward, Rankine will be a dual forward/mid. You pay extra for that.
you can only play one position at any given time. Pickett is due to play some midfield time this year anyway. Not to mention that Pickett has kicked 81 goals in his last 48 games. How many has Rankine kicked in his last 48 games? 57 goals. That is damning. And that's not even including the fact that Rankine is 1 whole year older or include Melbourne's dysfunctional forward line. It's all well and good to play 2 positions but that's like saying Jordan Dawson is better than Clayton Oliver because Dawson can play half back too. Rankine is a gun but he hasn't delivered like Pickett yet and that's pretty clear.

Given your own board don't rate your opinions, I'll take this one also with a grain of salt.

My own board don't rate any opinions that differ from theirs. When we were 10-0 last season I basically got ostracised for saying that we were playing horrendous footy. Turns out our good form was actually bad form after all. Alas, there's no chance Pickett gets a pick anywhere near pick 20 on its own. And there's a big difference between 10 and 20. I think Pickett gets a top 10 pick or equivalent which is a big loss for melbourne. But what can you do when he's out of contract. In contract, its a top 5 pick and that's still a loss. People overrate the draft.

Pickett = small forward
Rankine = HF/mid

Two different players, and small forwards aren't going to net a top ten pick sorry.
Dawson value was probably a good suggestion above, Adelaide ripped Sydney off a bit because of the PSD, so pick 13-15 probably fair.

I guess we'll have to disagree on this one and bump it if he indeed does seek a trade. I do generally think that ppl are starting to realise the importance of small forwards. Nick Watson in the 2023 draft is looking like a top 10 pick and he's a 169cm small fwd. The odds that Watson will be better than Pickett are slim I would personally say. But yeah I could be wrong, I thought Melbourne would get more for Jackson but a lot comes down to what picks that club has.

How would everyone describe Rankines style as a midfielder ?
Low possession, not great at clearances nor a line breaker known for metres gained. Not known as a man marker or two way runner.

On the upside, when he rests up forward for approximately 95% of his game time, he manages to kick a few goals.

Would be
Fanciful to think Freo would give up a second rounder for a proven performer in Pickett. Has kicked 40 goals in each of last two seasons and played well in some big games. He’s going to get better.

Even fancier to think or assume Melbourne would accept such an (imo) insulting offer.

What about Fyfe for Pickett?

Dockers fans were into Bolton who is now off the market. Their next target would be Pickett

Serong means more to them than Fyfe does

what the hell..so you're ignoring the fact that Pickett has blown his original value out of the water. laughable.

If the draft was done today, you think he's going at 12? if so name them. This will be good.

Rowell, Anderson, Jackson, Young, Serong, Green, Day, Georgiades, De Koning and Warner would all be taken ahead of Pickett in a re draft.

Can you find a first round draft pick small forward that has maintained their value in trade let alone increased it?

There arent many first round draft pick small forwards to begin with so thats probably not the right metric to assess.

I would take Pickett over Day, Georgiades, Young tbh fairly comfortably

De Koning and Warner yes. Probably Jackson yes. The rest no for me. Depending on needs of course. Rowell has been poor since his debut season. He wouldn't even make Melbournes best 22. You're really disrespecting a guy that has kicked 81 goals in 2 positions in the hardest position in the AFL to be consistent at.

Watch some more dees games next years. Midfielders grow on trees mate.

Rowell too for mine.

Hmm, Rowell looks finally over his horrific injury problems and started playing real good footy for the Suns last season.

Just speaking as a Carlton fan and our needs (with Walsh missing the first month of the season or so) I would reluctantly take Rowell over Kosi, come finals time and we are hopefully in it, would take Pickett though, the kid was born to star in big games/finals, which is partly why I feel like Taylor is really underselling Kosi's value tbh
