how many 1st rounders do they need to use in a 4 year period? and how many have they traded away? - I am genuinely not sure but could that be a stumbling block
There was the article not long ago saying every club can trade a future pick this year - no one is limited by 1st round pick trading rules

It’s not completely irrelevant we used pick 6 and he left after 3 years.
It’s no different to getting king with that pick and leaving 3 years later.
It puts you back.
And Neale who has 3 AA 3Bnf and a Brownlow since he left, but you tend to leave him out.
Neale played for 7 years before leaving. It's not quite the same. I'd say its more like losing a better version of Cerra.

I don't think there's a club out there that wouldn't have the salary cap room to offer Van Rooyen a contract to tempt him.
I agree with this. And if Goodwin continues to play Ben Brown over him then I wouldn't blame Van Rooyen for wanting more opportunity. He should already have 12 games next to his name and he probably won't be playing round 1 either.

19 year old key forward entering his second year on an AFL list, a list that 18 months ago won a flag and has high hopes of repeating that in 2023.

With 2 x semi broken 30 year olds the only key forwards likely ahead of him, he'd be mad to look elsewhere at the end of the year regardless of how many senior games he plays this year.

But Jackson also went to Freo despite playing behind a younger Darcy. He was set to be the solo ruck for 10 years after Gawn. So some players don't really think/care about that. I think Van Rooyen was our best key forward all of last season and never got a game. And it looks like its going to happen again. If a WA club prizes him away, I believe we only have ourselves to blame.

Jackson and Pickett helped you win a flag, they won’t win three bnf and a Brownlow between them after they leave either!
it’s ten times worse Danster surely you’ve got better things to argue about

I don’t mind Cornes really. But he has been someone who likes to stir the pot. He would have some ITK knowledge for sure. I just don’t think what he’s said right now adds any meat to other regurgitated stories.
Reality is a deal will get done if he leaves. He’ll get to the nominated club. Dees are pretty pragmatic at the trade table.

brownlows mean nothing. but forward pockets don't win bnf's. did Cyril rioli ever win a bnf? Jackson will win his fair share of AA honours

Now you're comparing JVR to Jackson? Please.

I agree JVR would move if offered the money Jackson was. Goes back to my original point; he won't be priced out of a move to any club because he won't receive a huge offer from any club.

I’ll simplify it.
Neale won our bnf in 16 and 18 came second in 17.
With Fyfe in and out of the medical room he was our best player.
He left at the end of 18.
It’s the same as if petracca left dees at the end of 2020.
I enjoy some of your deecentric opinions but if you can’t see how bigger impact that is on our club your knowledge on football lacks any sort of credibility outside of the demons.

Pickett and Jackson leaving makes perfect sense.

You can’t expect to sign Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, Viney, May, Lever and Grundy on huge contracts without losing some quality players. It’s simply the salary cap working how it’s supposed to.
Jackson leaving and if Pickett leaves it wouldn't have much to do with salary cap at all.

900k for 7 years had nothing to do with Jackson leaving I’m sure.

I doubt Pickett will get that much. But I guarantee, port, Adelaide, freo and west coast would be able to offer a better contract

Off course if you leave you will get more money you can say that about nearly any player, With Pickett it's more to do about living in Melbourne.

As a forward? Yes. Jackson is a poor forward. He is a very good onballer and ruckman. But certainly not a forward.

I agree that he won't be offered big money though as there's no exposed form to go off. If he plays 5-8 games towards the end then he could get some decent offers, aka Weideman after his 2018 finals series.

Why would it be the same as petracca leaving at the end of 2020? At the end of 2020 Petracca had played 5 seasons. Neale left after 7 seasons. So it would be the same as Petracca leaving now. Which would be after 7 seasons.

How can you compare the two when one hasn't played a game yet and the other missed just 3 in the past 2 years?

It's nonsensical.
