Recommitted Lachie Neale [OOC 2023 - Will honour his contract]

If he leaves (as widely reported), what will Brisbane get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st rounder

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

I don't have ill feelings towards Neale for wanting to go back to WA. Covid has changed circumstances and its very easy to see how that could effect him and more so his wife. Although saying that, If reports are to be believed its very poor form by him. There is no reason why the Lions had to be in the dark about this, They've shown they can work with players and facilitate trades if that's what they really want. But at the end of the day even if Neale is just a manipulative mercenary I don't begrudge him for that, players only have a limited time to maximise their value and often leave the game with injuries that will be with them for the rest of their lives.

Personally I dont want him to go, as he is one of the best mids in the competition. But it could give us the option of adding a different flavour to our midfield which could be beneficial to us in the long run. So whatever happens happens.

I think the trade will be something like 6 or 8 and then some later pick shuffling. Which imo is pretty reasonable

Sure. But you don't need to embellish it. The bloke has barely turned 28. He is in his football prime. I wish I was.

Everyone really needs to move on from this 'point of contention'.

Lachie Neale will be 29 by the time the 2022 season rolls around, whomever he plays for. Therefore for the sake of any conversation, Freo are either getting a 29 year old or Brisbane are retaining one. There are no games played in the trade period.

Have you got link saying they’ve moved on from trading in players.
What ? RU oK🤔
You asked why the club wanted him back ? I then asked you where you saw this reported …. I said nothing of the club not wanting to trade in players. I’m confused

Its going to be one big circus. Brisbane supporters are saying top 10 pick + 2nd rounder minimum, Freo supporters are saying Bell should be sacked if he gives up a top 10 pick. I think brisbane are in la la land if they think Freo will give up pick 6 or 8 for a guy who is 29 next year with injury issues.

No he won't. He'll be 28. Stop making up garbage.

I hope Neale just comes out and says he is staying at Brisbane. Fremantle are not in a position to offer 2 first rounders for 29 year old no matter how good he is.

Mark Duffield made a very good observation on his podcast today. In 1999 Fremantle traded pick 5 for a 29 year old Adrian Fletcher who had just won Brisbane’s BF who yes come to Fremantle and won a bf and played some good footy for another 70 - 80 games. That pick 5 turned in Luke power who then went on to play 250 + games for the lions and had a really good career.

I just don’t see how this trade will get done. If Fremantle trade 2 first rounders we deserve to be the laughing stock of the competition. And judging by the response from supporters on talkback radio and forums such as this they may just riot if that happens 😂

I’ve never so many Freo posters saying the same thing.

Not a single Docker fan on bf believes getting Neale will net us a flag.

We are not even close to a premiership window and everybody agrees with that.

Neale will makes us a finalist but we won’t win any finals. What is the point to that?

Reading the tea leaves, if Bell does the trade and get goes pear shape then a lot of Fremantle fans will give up.

After 25 plus years of pain and my club doing the same mistakes I won’t be following Dockers.

You are saying a lot of things on behalf of all Freo fans. I doubt many are going to give up except for you.

Sorry, I can’t speak for everybody and you are right.

The old timers who supported Fremantle at the start, have had enough.

I’ve seen all the list management mistakes like not getting Daniel Chick and Phillip Matera for nothing at the start to the Hogan bs trade.

Neale is a mistake just like Bond was.

It’s all in the past though. Time to look forward, our list is starting to look good with or without Lachie Neale. Having a good run with injuries would actually be better than either of the upcoming options for the team.

What 25 plus years.

I seen it before. We will make the finals for 3 years and then fall off the cliff. It’s happen twice.

Short cuts never work.

33 year old Gary Ablett Jr. yielded Gold Coast and end of 1st rounder and a 2nd the following year when he went back to Geelong after winning a 2nd Brownlow

A top ten pick and a 2022 2nd would be more than reasonable - Lions might even throw in a couple of their 50s picks on top.

Our last stint was 4 years. 5/6 with a bad run of injuries in 2011.

This isn’t a short cut, it’s about challenging with Fyfe & Walters around. Otherwise we should probably trade them as well and really load up on the draft.

If the price is too high, we think about next year.

Neale and pick 18 for Fyfe?

If he really wants to come home for non football reasons, he'll take unders
Unfortunately, that is a lie. He bailed on Fremantle the moment his front ended contract became tight and he is doing the same to us. He's only in it for money and Fremantle will be paying a lot to bring him back there.

Not sure it's really a great comparison though. Freo was a handful of years old and you're picking up Fletcher for experience because you've already got a youngish side with mostly WAFL experience. Plus Ben Allen's knee just gave out and you're filling that spot.
