I don’t think it is in our interests to stack good picks for next year. We are rebuilding now and need to spend the picks now.

For those who want Brisbane to trade 5 for 8 and 16 and then pass it on to us the questions is why?

We already said 5 was not enough. If we got 5 plus interest we can still do the 8 and 16 trade ourselves. Besides if Port didn’t trade 10 and 11 for 6 what makes you think that Adelaide will do 8 and 16. Just don’t see it as a realistic trade

if the dream of hogan is truly gone, i do think we should be thinking about having multiple picks for next years draft with an eye for sharp and jackson. from what i have seen and heard those 2 are going to be some of the best wa prospects we have seen for a while. I would hate those eagles ####s to swoop on them

I think I'd be quite happy with us changing tack and stocking up on next year picks. If we are no longer after Hogan then we don't need to go chasing after 5 and 16 or some other such combination which would satisfy Melbourne. I'd be happy for Brisbane's round 1 pick next year to be the big ticket item instead of 5 - but obviously need more than that.

Try and trade our way into getting a set of futures for next year. Be in a really strong position then to decide if we are still rebuilding or needing to top up on established talent. This year would be a bit of a pause and let the kids we've already got develop another year and see how they go. We've got to stop rebuilding and actually start improving soon.

It feels like we’re going to be ‘rebuilding’ for a very long time

I agree. With the new capacity at Optus there’s a genuine risk membership is going to decline. A lot of members will become even more frustrated than they are now, and will just target games they think we might have a chance at (as it’s much easier to get seats).

We all accept we are in a ‘rebuilding process’ but members are only going to put up with this for so long.

If we lose Neale for 2019, can just imagine how many others will be putting their hands up for an ‘out card’ at the end of yet another shit season.

Seems so many "experts" have panned Fremantle for pulling out of the Hogan deal. But have Fremantle been smarter than others.
The noise of Dayne Beams wanting out of Brissie just wont go away.It seems that Brissie and the Pies are working behind closed doors to get a deal done.Did someone let the cat out of the bag to Fremantle about this back door deal?
Maybe those involved in deals they want done, have underestimated Fremantle!! Not saying they have but the question has to be asked.
Maybe Fremantle have been just a wee bit smarter than some give them credit for.I guess we will see the results of it all come closing time for trading Wednesday.
I still think all deals will be done, but may be some red faces will come out of it all.

If there is no improvement next year we must get rid of Ross and try someone else. That would revive my enthusiasm for 2020.

I think we still need to provide Ross with the right tools (good players) to get this done - that’s difficult when players like Neale gouge a hole in the ship.

I'm not expecting a flag next year, just improvement.

I want to see us take on the good teams in away games and try to win by outscoring them. Not starting off with a completely defensive mindset at the opening bounce to limit the damage and then still getting flogged by 12 goals anyway. I am so sick of watching that shit.

Pending Injury and the footy gods...

I'd be expecting a little more in the tank of our 18/19 year olds, when they are now 19/20 and another preseason into them. The kids shouldn't fall off the cliff as hard for the 2nd half of next season. Cerra, Brayshaw, Banfield, Logue, Cox, Darcy and others just need time to develop, 18 year old AFL player vs their future 21-23 year old selves are chalk and cheese.

Totally agree - I was willing to accept we were trying new things out with younger players in weird positions this year, but now we need to get serious instead of just running an academy for other teams.

There will still be demand for memberships, as the eagles are sold out. Anybody that wants to see live footy will go to freo games.
Have you tried to buy a seat for a game at Optus? It is expensive, with booking fees and the like.
A membership is from $315 to $500 for level 5, that is only $30 a game in some seats.
That is the cost of a cheap seat at the gate at optus on any given game.

Don’t think there’ll be as much of that in the second year of the new stadium. There were a lot of neutrals going this year just to check out the new stadium.

Also, the club won’t want low attendances so will offer cheap deals like they did at a few games this year.

The booking fees are around $5 when you just rock up. That won't come down!
That is a stadium expense

So it looks like Beams is officially going to request a trade back to Collingwood.

Interesting how this affects the deal Brisbane offer us

Very well one would suggest. Conners has played this perfectly in that.. we need to replace Beams desperately now, but need the pick 18 to do it (only way we would take 18 for Beams) - so we take unders for Beams and pay overs for Neale. Left it till the end to pull it out so we already have our cards on the table. Beams leaving is awesome for the Docker and terrible for us in terms of the game of poker we are currently in.

I would be happy with that. We would probably send something like 41 or 44 back your way as well. Ultimately, I don’t think Collingwood would do it but I’m hoping they would with some pick swaps in their favour next year. The one thing that I fear will happen is that we ultimately sacrifice Beams and pick five to get Neale.

Isn’t Colin Young advising Fremantle?

Why would we have to throw 30 in? Beams has 3 years left, Lachie has 7 years. Beams is almost surplus to Collingwood needs with the midfield they have. Lachie becomes Brisbane's #1 midfielder.

Lachie for 5 and 18. Deal done.
