If someone told me Shoota would be second for us this year for goals (24) and lead us for tackles inside 50, meanwhile averaging 5 score involvements a game I would've taken that.

Unfortunately McStay and Checkers haven't really been able to get it going due to injuries.. Elliott also.

Give it another 12 months and I can almost guarantee Shoota will have kicked 30+ for us next year and been far more consistent.

He hasn’t been as bad as what people here have gone on about.

He does his role and does a lot of team things. It’s just he’s missed some shots he really should’ve made, had he kicked those his season would look better. Thankfully in the 4th he did kick those opportunities.

The issue is we paid overs, he can’t control that. If we made Prelim weekend and had pick 15 that goes out to about 18/19 after bids then you’d say yeah probably ok but too much with the pick last year as well.

We just need to never trade our 1st rd pick the year ahead ever again. It’s been a disaster every time.

He’s been poor all year and was awful again today bar 5 minutes.
Criticism is totally justified. And here you are like the attention whore you are trying to start fights with people again.
Yeah.
I’ll back you up on that one.
For a (effectively) first rounder he’s been bog-average.
We had to wait a whole year for that.
Let’s see him back it up.
THAT is real mark of a TRUE star.

Some of the stuff written about this bloke in the game day thread was off the charts rank.

It's great that he had a very impactful last 4 minutes and we won the game as a result. But let's not kid ourselves into now thinking he's had a good year, or even had a good game. Fact is, prior to the last 4 minutes, he missed two shots that you want your small forwards to nail more often than not, and dropped a chest mark in the goalsquare late with only mild contested pressure.

His misses against Sydney and Fremantle (which again you want your small forward to kick 9 times out of 10) both would have iced those games that we ended up losing, and as a result of losing them we will now almost certainly miss the finals.

I do hope he find more polish from here on, as if he does he would be a key part of our forwardline, but if he doesn't then I don't think he has a place.

He has lacked polish at times, I'll grant you that, but saying he was only impactful for 4 minutes is fkng crap.

He was a matchwinner for 4 minutes but his impact and effort during every game he has played is undeniable.

In focusing on his misses some posters dismiss or discount the rest of his contribution. "Small forwards should nail all of them". Bobby hasn't but somehow doesn't cop the same hate.

Enough of that shyte. All players miss shots.

Yeah, let’s expect the mods to troll through that thread instead of watching the game.

Everyone knows the GD threads are Enter at Your Own Risk.

On point, reg!

I honestly think Shooter's been a bit flustered trying too hard to win (most of) us fans over, bearing in mind he came from a nothing franchise to the biggest Club in Australia who had just won a flag.

Did we overpay for him? Yeah, well we are unlikely to make the 8, so trading first picks is fraught and should only be done in extreme moments.

But is was no Poulter / McMahon "haul" either. Shooter can actually play and is a walk up starting 22 player for mine.

If we look at the overall trade cost for our traded-in role players, from yesterday, Jezza, DC, Shooter, Limpinski, Bobby, Dan, WHE and Cameron, the overall cost of these guys was a stack of mid-range draft picks, that are Hail Mary's if you spend them on kids anyway.

Plus Shooter's first round pick, of course, but even if you include that, do you not think we've got great service from that list?

Even yesterday, Shooter ****ed up a bit and even ****ed up on the inboard kick prior to his stellar checkside. But I think he'll get a sense of belonging from that game. He will be worth the picks long term.

Plus, we traded out Ginni, who has done well at Hawthorn, but he was one **** up from a fire sale. I'll remain silent on what I do and don't know about this topic.

Here’s the stats for the player we effectively moved on to give up a first round pick.

23 goals, 50 tackles.
And a game in hand to improve those stats.

Leads us for tackles inside 50, and kicks straight he’s 30 goal season. Perhaps listen to fly talk about him. At one stage was being played as our KPF… there’s more to a small forward than goal kicking.

On the Bobby point you made - I think that's a fair point. Bobby has missed a bunch of shots as well, and certainly doesn't do the tough stuff that Schultz does, so I can't reconcile why I am less critical of Bobby. Recency bias possibly from the GF, but that's not fair. I think Bobby is more constructive / creative when he gets the ball up the ground, but also the fact that some of Shultz' misses have come at times in games where we really needed them to go through.

I'm much more forgiving of Howie's howlers than I am of JFN's. :)
