Laura Kane - Does Not Impress Me At All !!

She resigned at North Melbourne in 2021, she was balls deep in the strategy to get free draft picks for North.
The submission was put to the AFL in 2022 after appointed to the AFL where she approved what she put together at North Melbourne.
You deluded North supporters gaslight as much as your sugar mummy Laura does at the AFL.

No the 2022 submission was submitted and essentially rejected in almost all it's format by Brad Scott.

The 2023 submission was completely separate.

So are you having a melt regarding North being awarded a 2nd and 3rd round pick that we weren't allowed to use and had to trade when we applied for pick 3?

Something that Kane didn't even decide on, but the current Essendon coach who accepted that role a few weeks after making that decision?

And yet you think North was the one who rigged this process?

She joined the AFL as General Manager Competition Management at the end of the 2021 season in November 2021.

Explain to me how the 2022 priority pick submission completed in October 2022 was submitted whilst she was at North in October 2021?

You are confusing yourself and your timelines. We made a PP inquiry in 2021 and was rejected completely.

No the submission was created in 2021 by Kane while at North Melbourne. When she got to the AFL in Nov 2021 replacing Scott, the submission was approved sometime in 2022 and the concessions started from the 2022 draft.
It is a simple timeline that only North supporters can't see.
2021 Kane drafts submission while at a club
Nov 2021 Kane replaces Brad Scott
2022 Kane's submission approved by Kane in her role at AFL.
draft 2022. North concessions begin
Draft 2023. North concessions continue.

More gaslighting.

Oh dear, you are completely cooked and have no idea :tearsofjoy:

Brad Scott was head of AFL VIC (i.e Victorians suburban football competitions, Auskick etc) prior to Sept 2021.

He didn't join the AFL as GM of Footy Ops until September 2021 and yet you think Kane replaced him in Nov 2021?

https://www.afl.com.au/news/677291/...north-staffer-joins-afl-in-footy-ops-shake-up

It clearly stated in my previous post she didn't become Acting GM of football until May 2023.

Scott joined Essendon September 29 2022. - https://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/1230549/brad-scott-appointed-mens-senior-coach

North received their decision by Brad Scott in September 19 2022. - https://www.afl.com.au/news/847042/afl-announces-draft-picks-assistance-package-for-north-melbourne

He put in notice with the AFL 10 days after making that decision.

There was a submission in 2021, 2022, 2023.

You are making shit completely up.

2021 - Rejected Completely - Reassess in 2022.
2022 - R2 & R3 pick which had to be traded. (Brad Scott decision 10 days prior to leaving for Essendon) - to be reassessed in 2023
2023 - The end of Rnd 1 2023 and 2024 package of picks. (AFL commission decision - Not Kanes)

And Im the one gaslighting? :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Maybe I'm late to the party but she's absolutely out of her depth.

Just from the last couple of days, between This - changing rules on the fly and straight up lying about notifying clubs about it, and this (https://www.afl.com.au/news/1153771/afl-concedes-umpire-error-but-ticks-off-50m-penalty-call) - contradicting herself, failing to understand the rules and trying to gaslight fans about it - she's unfit for her position.
Can’t even bring herself to directly say any part of it was an error. Talking about how the play on was the the wrong call it was all - “error, if you want to call it that” and “mistake, if you like”. Refusing to classify anything as a categorical error.

I think both Laura and Dillon have been equally as bad. It’s their first year so I’m hoping the take this year as a step learning curve.

It feels to me like they have completely lost control of the game.

Political spin does not work in footy(even though it happens alot) take ownership and tell the truth

Their approach to player welfare is equally as baffling as the umpiring approach. We have the really hardline approach to players when it comes to head high contact but when it comes to the way clubs handle contact and player welfare they refuse to change anything.

In the words of Terry Wallace, if I hear the words “we are really comfortable in how that played out” again I’ll spew up.

It's not unprecedented.

The only ones complaining are those with self interest.

The AFL did the same with the NGA rules.

I hate Carlton like cancer, but all of their 2024 planning would have been done years out and everything they did last year would've been to plan for 2024 under the current rules.

I understand there's no perfect time to make changes given that, but some heads up is required all things considered.

Honestly, it feels like the AFL is presently both inept and dodgy. You can almost handle one of those two things, but not both. They also couldn't give a shit, which makes it all worse.

I’d understand more if this wasn’t a problem created by the AFL.

They made the formulas. Surprise, surprise, they didn’t know what they were doing, and now clubs are trading junk picks to game the formula.

That’s on the AFL, not the clubs for working to their formula.

So fix your mistake, sure, but don’t **** the clubs over who are playing by your rules.

The time to fix this was before they brought in. Now they need to wait and consult the clubs and give everyone a chance to adjust based on whatever bullshit formula they bring in.

Also the addressing the umpires is also a massive fail. Every late decision clubs are waiting for an apology from the AFL since they did it pretty much every other week now. What are they achieving by doing this?

If you’re having to apologize for free kicks - umpire standard needs to improve. If you’re coming out every week due to amount of noise from fans just to say ‘nah free kick was valid’, means the rules are unclear that the average fan, player and media personality doesn’t know the rules. Either way it’s a huge issue and her coming out to talk about specific free kicks is not doing the favours she thinks it is.

Either way, I just think that 33 is a ridiculously young age to be in such a position.

And being a lawyer doesn't help. As a person with a law degree myself, I reckon it took me the best part of a decade to get rid of the instinct to manipulate language (sometimes subtly, sometimes outrageously) to suit the interests of myself or a client. The art of lying without technically lying.

It just goes with the territory. It's not a period of life I look back at with much pride and Laura looks to me like she's smack bang in the middle of it.

Which is why if they wanted a woman for that job, they should have sounded out Peggy Oneil, Kylie Watson-Wheeler or Debbie Lee if they wanted to go down that corporate path, or if they wanted someone with experience that actually played the game a Daisy Pierce or an Erin Phillips.

Have somebody that's well respected take that role. Laura isn't it.

Not true.

When players mark the footy and immediately play on, their opponents don’t sit and wait around for the umpire to call “play on”.

That happens all the time.
It is true.

It's not play on until the umpire calls it. Like this guy - everyone knew he played on but it hadn't been called by the umpire yet.

So the Pies got 14 frees to two in the 2nd half.
A goal wasn't reviewed, that was touched.
Daicos was pinned in a textbook HTB/Incorrect disposal, but not paid.
A 20 metre 'shovel' throw wasn't paid against Coll.
The 50 that wasn't paid...
and the Exec Manager of Football is on air cheerleading for Coll??? And what are these boxes they want ticked?
Diversity, equity and inclusion ✅ ✅ ✅

Hasn't had a good week, mainly on the draft rule change stuff. The explanation of the North game 50 is meh, every AFL administration has been doing this shit for as long as I can remember. In saying that I wish they wouldn't treat us like mugs (even though, if you're posting on Bigfooty lets be honest you probably are) and just say it was a mistake.

I thought they got it right with the new HTB interpretation but seem to have now fully regressed that.

It is a very Bigfooty thing though to create a thread a couple of months into the tenure of an AFL exec who isn't the CEO and after not really hearing from them because it has been the offseason and say they're terrible. Wonder what the distinguishing factor might be.

She talks goobledegook. The AFL is an industry hellbent on making a mess of things by having its own little secret language. They make damn sure they speak in a way filled with secret terms that sail right over other people's heads, believing the average footy fan is dumb and has no idea what they're saying. Gil was a master at it, Laura Kane is just following suit.
