You'd think that if true his management must be lining up a deal with one of the two WA clubs since 150,000 less than he thought he was worth would be 150,000 more than he would get playing WAFL or SANFL.
Unless it is a tactic designed to push the Pies management into stumping up more dough or perhaps a two year deal?

We need to get in there like swimwear!

I don't see any cons in us getting Neon Leon in the PSD, aside from us maybe missing out on a Dawson/Ray. Which really isn't much of a con at all.

A con could be his age, given that he may only have another year or two left in him, whilst drafting a kid or even a mature age player (20-25s) could have a long career. Saying that though I still think we should get him lol

That is the sum of it. He's been offered $300 K per year & wants $400 K. I don't think the W.A clubs showed much interest in Leon at trade time even though they know they could have arranged to get him in the ND/PSD for free.

I doubt he would flourish under Lyon as he was given allowances under Mick that few coaches would have put up with & would have a personalty clash with him.

what's the source for those figures, or is that hearsay?

We should get Leon Davis in the PSD because:

- we need a replacement for the retired Roger Hayden
- we need to draft and develop a small defender, having davis will allow the kid to develop and also have someone to help him
- may even allow someone like Suban or Ibboston to play midfield
- it will cost us virtually nothing, therefore it's not much of a risk

Don't get Dawson, with St Kilda's gameplan it doesn't matter who they have playing that role.

Also would like to point out that our premiership window has only got a few years left, get FEVOLA! it's no risk because we can get him as a rookie and if he stuffs up drop him. Fact of life Fev can win us a premiership, although I highly doubt that we will get him.

I used to be in the same camp you are in. But after hearing from Chops A Must (who is up in Darwin) that Fev was on the piss the night before the big NT game and was both playing AND staying at the Casino Hotel. Then it shows that nothing has changed for him and that even though it would only cost us a rookie pick. It would still cost us a rookie pick. A pick we could use on Mason/Blackwell/Davis/Ray/Dawson/Sandilands Jr

Yeah, I'd much rather we get a guy like Davis who would slot straight into our best 22 than throw a speculative pick at an unproven guy in the PSD. His class and disposal out of the backline could be the difference in a few games next year.

Very good player, and would be an assest but +28 so Minimum chips... PSD or 5th round ND. Pies got tarrant, ball and brown on less than market value why should we pay overs ? Anything more WAFL for him.

I wouldn't be against it, but it depends how much he wants. If we have cap room over the next few years that we had planned to give to Clark, then I would prefer we use that for a big free agent fish like Goddard.

Nah guys, I have it on good authority that Davis will cost us a second rounder in a trade to Collingwood. It's right there in the OP.

Leon is shit!!, wouldn't have him at Collingwood if you paid me. :D (Sorry Leon, just kidding mate)

Seriously though, you guys would be mad not to atleast consider him now, have a good run with injurys and you guys could crack the top 4 IMO, having Leon running around wouldn't hurt you guys one bit.

Shaun McManus just said on Nova that Leon's preference is to come to Fremantle. Not sure his source on that. I know we said no to Leon before but that was for a trade. Surely in the PSD if he is there we will take him. This is an All Australian small backman - they exact position we urgently need. Surely we could do worse than de listing van Berlo and picking up Davis?? 2 year deal - $350K /year or even a 1 year deal $400K

exactly, 1 year deal....$400K!!!! at least we'd have someone coming out of the backline that can hit a target and have us rebounding out of defence with some ferocity instead of watching mcpharlin waste 20 seconds kicking it 35 meters sideways with a big up and under kick.
Pavlich wont know wat to do when neon drills it at him from 50 meters away and lands it straight on his tit. That hasnt happened to him since he left adelaide as an 18 yr old

We would surely consider him if he is available.

According to the west JVB has already signed a new one yr deal but there would be no need to delist him anyhow. We have 6 spots on our list and I would much rather Davis on our senior list than Pearce or Sibosado. I doubt very much that we will use more than 4 picks in the draft so there should be room for him I'd offer him about $300k and keep him on 1 yr contracts.

Crazy to completely rule him out. Most people see Freo pushing top four/ trying for a premiership all things going to plan in the next 3-4 years, be mad to not consider him just because of his age when you have Pavlich on a 4 year deal...

My guess is only thing stopping us is the price.
Yep he will fit in very nicely.
But the neew freo isnt about giving guys that want to return home a retirement plan.

Im sure they would be happy to offer him 1 or 2years no worries at all.
He fills a gap(very well) an gives us time to let a younger player develop his game for that role.
Problem is the price, we can afford it, but it goes against our list management big money for a new player to team who only has a few years left in him.

Even better if he had a choice of the Pav or Fev to drill !!!

Like most here I'd love him at Freo if we're talking PSD and I'm suprised Freo seem to be publicly writing off the idea before it even gets to draft day.

But I'd also be happy if Freo continues to back up

"a rigid list management strategy and plan to instead stock up with kids in the national draft rather than use spots on their list to top up.

and stick with kids and mature age of about under 25. I get so sick of hearing that our 'window' has to be before Pav and Sandilands retire and would hate to see the club trading that way.

Chris Bond ruled it out during trade week, as in forget us trading any picks. This could mean we generally are not interested or we have already told him we will take him in the PSD. The list management model by memory says we can take an experienced best 22 player in the PSD.

West Coast have declared that they don't have a spot and that the decision makers are on leave.

I am a fan, forward pocket to release Balla to play further up the ground or ideal replacement for Hayden while the Pitts and the Mellingtons develop over the next few years.

The club also ruled out Jack Anthony last year, saying they werent interested when Collingwood was trying to package him as part of the Tarrant trade. I agree we shouldnt just let people into the club because they want to come home, but this is an All Australian who fills a key gap and has the potential to win us some games. Everyone also forgets how good Leon was in the midfield a couple of years back also. If nothing else Leon would be great just to kick in, until we can find a better kick in person. Leon has always been in really good physical shape, so that can only be a plus on the training track too.

This could be an interesting PSD. There is plenty talent yet to re-sign and we should be hoping that Bond has really thought this through. How many goes at the PSD can you get? Is it just a matter of how many spots there are left on your list?

Either way Neon would be a good get as long as he does not get a retirement deal. Give him a year with a high performance target option for a 2nd.

I keep back-flipping on Leon.

Pros:
- Proven talent
- Would slot into our line-up fairly easily (wouldn't displace any key players).
- Flexible - made name down back this year, but can play fwd when needed.
- Could provide some valuable experience
- Good user of the ball (can never have enough of those).
- Could come very cheap (PSD).
- 1 talented year behind which some of our many youngsters could develop.

Cons:
- 1 year short term 'fix'
- has proven that if head isn't in gear can be a waste of talent (given this would likely be his superannuation year, this could be a real factor)
- though useful, we do have players that can fill his spot.
- will take a spot from a 'development' player that might be with us for years to come.

I can't make up my mind. If he does come though, he has to come cheap because he's not a 'must have' AFAIC and could even be a bit of a liability if his head isn't geared up for another year or so of AFL.

i think the pies got it right recently when they had Davis, Thomas, Medhurst & Didak all rotating between the forward line & the midfield.
it prevented a player being stuck in a pocket & out of the game for longer periods. they would get their hands on the ball in the middle 4 a bit & then translate that positive energy to their forward play.
of course, the press has increased the work rate of the forward pocket immensely, but i am all for rotations on the field & off.

yes 2 Davis, btw for mine.
