PORT Adelaide has secured talented running defender Lewis Stevenson from West Coast in a trade deal involving three clubs.
The 23-year-old joins the Power in return for a fifth round pick (no. 88 overall) at the 2012 AFL National Draft, which Port Adelaide has accepted from Melbourne in exchange for David Rodan.

Ok.

Its funny how we trade for these guys and its a good thing, but if we drafted them in the fourth or fifth or sixth rounds I'd expect people would say we were clogging our list.

Hopefully he's a good one though.

I would be pissed if we drafted him with one of our 30s pick.

Don't care about what we do with the 70s and beyond.

Even if he isn't in the 22, at least we can have some players that will dominate the SANFL.

Theres spots in the side available for talented ready to go players. Lets hope he is one that can take his chance and make a real play at becoming an AFL regular.

Bullshit Porticia, we dont draft 21-23 year old guys with AFL environment experience. It would be Nathan Blee like who is going to take 3 years to get up to speed. These guys, Heath and Stevenson SHOULD come in to our set up and make an imediate impact

Another good trade IMO.

This is weird. We're making smart, astute trades and working on genuinely moving our list forward. Our cross-town rivals are reeling from dodgy back-door deals. All of a sudden, we are the well run professional club in this state. Just wow.

Really looking forward to seeing what Stevenson can do. Excitement is building!

I don't know, doesn't seem like a recycled spud that we've looked to draft in the past. Looks like a genuine hard worker who has had a bit of bad luck and fallen behind in a team that had a glut of similar players. This is the educated risk I expect us to take.

If you look through the best 22 thread ironically the spot where we are weakest is HBFs.

Pearce gone, Chaplin gone, Stewart up forward, Broadbent and Moore in the middle, Jacobs gone, Surjan gone.

He would have to be an upgrade on Logan or Pfeiffer and for pick 88 thats an ok deal. Nice kick off both sides and a good height. Not expecting miracles here.

So, you turned a 30 year delistee in David Rodan, into WCE's 23-year old Lewis Stevenson?

When you're finished, can we borrow your administrators for a while please? Maybe like one of them Wife-Swap TV series, but CEO-Swap? You can even keep them afterwards.

That's at least the 4th smart thing you've done in trade week/month/year, which is at least 4 more smart things than we've done. Like I intimated when you pulled off the #29 for Hombsch/Neale thing yesterday or the day before, your off-field staff are certainly earning their pay. I reckon you're the best overall result out of trade time (Melbourne may have questionably got some better players, but they gave up boatloads to get them).

Genuinely excited about this trade. Pencil this kid in on our HBF for the next decade. I've been saying we need to get someone who can defend AND rebound for years rather than a bunch of players who can only do one or the other, and we've finally gotten him.

Welcome to Port Adelaide Lewis Stevensin!

I can let you know when memberships go on sale if you want :hearts:

Before that PTV video I hav e never seen Stevenson. Has a long kick, some pace and an AFL ready body, 189cm/88kgs, which is good :thumbsu: . Saw him do two decent left foot shorter passes. Born July 1989 so he is ready to play.

I looked up his Claremont stuff. He has played in Claremont's back to back WAFL 2011-12 flags. He was named on the wing in the starting side. To me that's a good thing that he has played in finals and flags for Claremont.

The other reason why I'm prepared to give this kid a go is because I don't think our WA recruiters have screwed up a draft pick. A couple of rookies have gone nowhere but I'm not rating that. I don't think we have picked up a dud player in the National Draft or PSD from WA.

We picked up Rodan with pick 86 in 2006 so if he is 3/4 as good or matches the Hoff's pick 71 then we shpuld be pretty happy.

Pick 88 should be used on someone who is ready to play rd 1 if they have already been on an AFL list. Rodan was pick 86 in 2006. Unless its a massively deep draft, pick 88 on a kid is highly speculative.

Stevenson provided he has an injury free pre season will be close to making our first side based on his video highlights and that he was an emergency 10 times for the WCE in 2012. Player 23-25 at the WCE is likely to better than our players 20-22.

Did Stevenson have alot of injury problems? 23 years old for 10 games.... surely theres a reason he hasnt played alot of footy. Those highlights show the kid can play

He was a rookie in 2008-09-10 and played 10 games when WCE were poor. Was rookie elevated in October 2010, played 1 game in 2011 and 0 in 2012. WCE were very good in 2011-12 and their back 6 was pretty hard to get into as was their wings and mid field.

Happy with this trade. Pick 88 was never gonna land us a young draftee player to fill a role we need now. But Stevenson does. We have a great record of giving guys who have limited opportunities to come in and become a best 22 player.

so nothing injury related... well thats good

Nah he was just way, way down the pecking order and was on the rookie list for 3 years.

He has fantastic 50m + disposal off both feet but it has been his defending one on one was what always held him back from a regular spot in our team.

He was asked last year(?) to really work on his defensive game, which by all reports he has.
