This is why WC (and GC) need to play harder ball. Richmond are the more motivated party here. Sure, we’ve obviously been in his ear a while but Baker isn’t propelling us to finals or supercharging our rebuild, he’s just a good player to add for some stability and consistency. Richmond fans on the other hand appear to have already spent their draft picks. They are convinced they are going to rebuild in one draft. Imagine the melts if they go into the draft with 3, 24 and a bunch of late picks. They will blink.

Weird take, particularly if the rumours about Wardlaw being unwilling to leave Victoria were true.
If you look at the top 20 picks that year Ginbey is one of the better selections.
He has clearly outperformed Tsatas, Mackenzie, Clark, Hollands, Busslinger, Jefferson, Rowston, Allen and Knostanty in this range and a similar level to Michalanney, Humphrey and Phillipou.
The remaining picks of the draft hasn't yielded any great choices (so far) McMullin has played 17 games, Gallagher has played 19 games, Emmett and Cowan have played 15 games and that's about it.
If Hewett is able to perform at the level we know he is capable of (injuries permitting) it seems like it could work out to be a good trade. Also, pre-draft, Wardlaw was far more prone to injury than Hewett.

What is the point of comparing Ginbey to players taken even later in the draft. The option was pick 2 versus 9 and 14. You are backing up my point about pick splitting saying these later picks are rubbish. Which of Cadman, Sheezel, or Wardlaw is behid Ginbey-Hewwet combo?

You will hear rumours about every quality Vic kid not wanting to leave the state, as they will get rumours about ours. If we acted on it the "national competition" would be dead.

14 is likely to be 16-17 when taken. Most posters have agreed that’s probably about his value, and it’s the pick WC will have available. Pretty straightforward deal IMO.

I don't think it's the value apportioned to Baker that is the issue, it's how mind-bogglingly idiotic such a trade would be for West Coast this off-season.
It would demonstrate a clear inability for our List Management team to properly understand where West Coast are at and what they require in their rebuild.

From that point of view fair enough.

For what it’s worth though, we’re in the same position and given the choice I’d EASILY keep him ahead of taking a punt on pick 14. True on and off field leader by example who adds value to your team. Can set and forget in a position and switch around the ground to help where needed. Will always stand up for teammates. I reckon by 1/4 way through the season you’ll all love him.
