AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
My dads boss spoke to Tony Liberatore at the game on Monday and he said that we can only pick up only one player by the father / son rule.
=S anybody know if this is true or not. This ant good
This shows there is no limit. However my interpretation of first available pick, would be that if 2 clubs each nominated one of the eligible players within the same round, the club would need to make a choice between the 2 with that next pick, and the player not taken would revert to the club who were bidding with their choice.
We don't know if this is likely to be a problem. Liberatore at about 178cm is not, at this stage, likely to be an early choice.
If Essendon bid their first round pick(4) for Wallis and West Coast bid their first round(5) pick for Libba then we would have to use our first round pick(16) on Wallis then our next available pick(32) on Libba.

Woolnough and Scarlett went in the same year from memory. Possibly Callan and Ablett as well. I'm also pretty sure that Heath and Brayden Shaw went in the same year at Collingwood as well. You may be right chef, but the powers that be might need to clarify. It probably will never come up.
I don't think, even Geelong with their plethora of father/sons, have had 2 in the same year worthy of round 1.
I know nothing about them - are they any good? Cordy was >200cm so good decision but what is the word on these two? Is Libber short like his old man? Can Wallis kick more than 40 metres?

Don't care if can kick more than 40m. If young Wallis is anything like his old man, we'd take him in a heartbeat. Ask Bret Heady and Andrew Bews what they thought of Steve Wallis.
BTW...I know you raised this in jest.
Thanks for confirming. Woolnough was definitely a F/S, and was rated quite a bit higher than Scarlett at the time - he had massive wraps on him but knee injuries unfortunately killed his career.Ablett went 2001 while Callan went in 2002.
Scarlett and Woolnough both went in 97 but i was under the impression only Scarlett went Father Son?
Spot on about Shaw boys, both went Father/Son in 2003.

I agree it needs to be on merit only. Bit harsh on the Cloke boys though. Travis is coming along really well and Cameron has been pretty good since his move to Carlton. Jason was good while his lose man in defense role was able to be used at the highest level. We need to make sure they are only selected on merit
We don't need to be stepping out with a Cloke/Collingwood like arrangement.
The draft in which both of these guys will be available will be the one that will be decimated by the GC picks, right? In other words, our first pick is going to be pick 30 or something, and the next one pick 47 or somesuch.
Thats a very good draft to have a gun F/S available (wallis), and even if libbas son isnt supposed to be a gun, a pick in the 40s could still be good value.
