More importantly it means the methodology for deciding who hosts the Grand Final is consistent with that used to decide who hosts the Preliminary Finals.

Otherwise we could have to travel to play Melbourne in a Preliminary Final, on the grounds that they finished higher than us on the ladder.
It’s no different to the mens game really.
The only difference is that the Grand Final in the mens comp is always going to be at the G which will favour the Melbourne based teams where the Womens comes down to the highest placed Preliminary Final winner getting a home game.
So winning the first Final and getting a home prelim is definitely an advantage.

Agree, but i would change your last sentence a little.

So winning the first Final and getting a home prelim earns you the right to possibly host the Grand Final

I think the prelim comparison doesn't really stand up to scrutiny, personally. The prelim is hosted by the team that qualified for it first. The other team doesn't qualify for the prelim until the following week.

Whereas the AFLW grand finalists both qualify from the same week of the finals, there's no real difference between them until you start looking deeper in terms of how they got to to their prelims.

Four Lions named in All Australian squad.

How stiff is Ellenger....probably most effective player in the league over the last couple of games and a strong early season. Not to mention our Captain and Cathy. Cathy is not the most skilful player but every team would pay overs for her and steak knives.

Agree, Cathy would be one of the first people picked in every team.

Ellenger is massively improved. I used to think that she was kept there to keep Grider company but she has turned into a real footballer.

Pink boots defies the fact she's tough as nails.

The Bulldogs are hoping to complement the potential arrival of Morphett with the signing of exciting Brisbane forward Zimmie Farquharson, who sat out the most recent AFLW season having been moved to the inactive list at the Lions.

She was inactive due to her apprenticeship not allowing a semi professional training regime I thought? Guess the dogs have much lower standards.

Darling Downs girl, I believe. Moving states is more a lifestyle choice, I reckon.

I would imagine there is more to the story as to why she was inactive this year.

Her & Wardlaw looked close. I thought it was a bit of a coincidence that Zimmie sat out for a season while Wardlaw was playing her first season for the saints.

I forgot about this.
Just over 1 day left to cast your votes.

Preliminary Finals

Sat 6.45pm AEST (7.45pm AEDT) Lions v Cats, Michael Voss Oval
Sun 2.05pm AEST (3.05pm AEDT) Roos v Crows, Princes Park
So if we beat the Cats and the Crows get over the Roos, we host?

Ellenger and Dawes super stiff.
I think our two most improved. Top tier players now that any club would want. Dawes’ aggression around the contest and ability to navigate herself out into clear air makes her such an asset in a game as congested as AFLW often is. Something to be said for shorter players who have the right skill set. I imagine bigger opposition mids would have thought she is an easy direct opponent until she zips past them or locks down on them.

Ellinger is the player who now gives us the extra where needed, midfield outside the contest, halfback, ghosting up to half forward. It means that players like Conway and Orla become more dangerous because Ellinger is now often the loose player that defenders have to manage. She probably worked as hard as anyone in off season and preseason to take this next step but the evidence is there.

Ellinger had noticeably improved earlier in the year but her last two games have been next level again. Will be an All Australian level player if she could keep this level up.

Tickets for Week Three of the NAB AFLW Finals series will go on sale via Ticketmaster tomorrow (Monday) at 2.00pm for club members and 4.00pm for general public. All on-sale times are local to the venue.

The Lions will host Geelong at Brighton Homes Arena at 6.45pm AEST (7.45pm AEDT) on Saturday after the Cats upset Melbourne.
