News Lions Board Spill - update: Board Dispute Resolved

Have been a spectator of this thread and the good doctors posts for the past couple of days. The 13th cannot come quickly enough. Luckily I know who I'm voting for so his dribble is meaningless.

I would prefer to side with Johnson than this maniac - it wouldn't even be close.

Maybe that's the point? Just guessing.

So, Henry, why is it you keep referring to "they", TLR, and "the Williams/Power bloc", when referencing a tweet made directly by Leigh Matthews? They is a plural term. Leigh is but one man. Surely speaking counter to one man honestly, using his own name, doesn't scare you?

Secondly, TLR retweeted a direct message from Leigh Matthews, so why are you bad mouthing them for giving voice to the bloke you keep saying is the only man in all of this we should listen to? Aren't you glad they're getting Leigh's message out there?

Lastly, why can't you attach Leigh's name to the Williams/Power ticket, and why don't you mention the other blokes involved in said ticket?

I look forward to a fanciful bullshit story that avoids using Leigh Matthews name unless it's an attempt to paint yourself as supporting him. Face it Pinky. We all know you'd be slinging mud at him if you thought it wouldn't bounce off & rain on you and your mates in the process. If not, I look forward to your ignoring this post & tackling those you find it easier to spin a nothing answer to.

I am a QLD member of the BBFFC who joined Fitzroy & helped when your shithead mates attempted to bully them over the jumper issue. You, the wannabe Victorian saviour, were nowhere to be found. How dare you speak about caring for the jumper. You are a political stooge. A money grubbing boys club member who thinks your little frat party has every right to manipulate institutions & people to feather your own nest. You would preside over the discontent of tens of thousands of people, and casually ignore the social heart of a community being chewed up & spat out. The worst part is, you wouldn't give a flying fig about it. In fact, I suspect my saying this gives you some joy, but I shall say it anyway.

You are beneath contempt. You make me sick.

I take great heart in the fact this whole situation has drawn you out of your burrow and into the public light. Boys clubs only expose their faceless background rats when things are at their most desperate. Know that after this, you will never be trusted by anyone inside the Lions den again. You will sink & drown with the puppeteers pulling your strings. I, and I suspect most others here, will care about as much for your loss as you care for personal privacy, ethical conduct, and our football club.

P.S. Stop sending me your unsolicited vote rigging filth, maggot.

I have to take issue with Pinskier's grab for proxies without giving voting members any specific indications about how their proxy will be used. He espouses three dot points in his emails yesterday:
  • Put Club greats and Life Members like Leigh Matthews on the board
Pinskier knows he doesn't have Matthews' support (he's been told often enough by the man himself). It's not unreasonable to think from the above statement that Pinskier will support Matthews, but this is pure political doublespeak - it actually says the reverse. Supporting club greats "like" Leigh Matthews doesn't make any commitment to anyone. Who does Pinskier have have lined up that's "like" Leigh Matthews?
  • Ensure the original Lions Lion is restored
Dunno if you've noticed, but there's been a pretty successful campaign coordinated by The Lions Roar over the last few months, culminating in a recent survey with 71.4% voting in favour of change (mind you, the club is yet to confirm what we'll be changing to). Way to go - jump on the back of someone else's hard work and claim credit.
  • Remove the boardroom brawlers once and for all
Henry, you've been on a few boards and committees, and so have I. A bit of vigorous discussion and disagreement are par for the course, and generally positive. I'd rather get rid of a reactionary bloc that has been there for too long, done a few good things, but overall overstayed their time and been party to some damaging decisions. Removing the boardroom brawlers doesn't do it for me, in the absence of any other nominations.

I do have reservations about the role of Power and Williams in the dismissal of Voss, but in my mind the major stuff-up here was NOT the dismissal of Voss but the absolute shambles that followed in terms of getting a marquee coach. I lay that squarely on Angus Johnson's shoulders. I trust Leigh Mathews to have the good of the Club in mind, and his support of Williams and Power is enough for me.

Pinskier's push is aimed squarely at the gullible, and I fear there will be a few. Leigh Matthews and his group will need to get these issues into the media somehow in order to reach the people likely to be affected - ie those who don't habitually access forums like this one.

One last thing - Henry, where did you get my email from, and if you really really like Leigh Matthews, how about loaning him your members email database?

Please, oh please, avoid proxying to incumbent directors like Paul Williams.

As a Victorian member I will be directing my proxy vote to the Fresh Start team of Power/Williams/Matthews/Thornton.

In my view they appear to be the best choice for steering the club in the direction that I believe the club should go.

What also should happen at the AGM either this year or next year:
  • enshrining the Fitzroy / premiership lion as the club's official logo in the Brisbane Lions' Constitution, so that the Constitution reflects the wording and spirit of the 'merger agreement' with the Fitzroy Football Club.
  • appointing a current director of the Lions' merger partner, the Fitzroy Football Club, to the Brisbane Lions Board in an advisory role on Victorian / Fitzroy matters. That director would need to fulfil the normal qualifications of two year continuous membership of the Lions before election by members to the Board.
  • making sure that Life Members of the Club have the same rights as Full Members in terms of standing as directors. (that will be adopted at the EGM.)

Only a matter of time really.

Hammo's article rag-dolled Pinksier's campaign pretty well I thought.

Summoning my inner John - once Uncle Rupert sinks the teeth in, the writing is on the wall.

Just read Hammo's article. He raises a few points about the release of confidential information that I hadn't considered - very worrying!

Even more worrying that 'the club' is supposedly investigating itself. I'd be much happier to see an external agency (AFL or police) involved.

Geez, Hammo, keep this up and we'll have to give you a few brownie points; still more worrying!:D

Can I fair and square say that I commend Hammo for his articles on this issue.

I know he has said some dumb things over the years, but so far on this particular issue that is intrinsic to the future of our club, he has actually played it very well.

He and Andrew Stafford have had a fair crack at the murky waters as well:

If we were a Melbourne based club then the media would be all over it. Hence, thanks to these two for at least being on top of it. Others like Caroline Wilson and Jake Niall and Co from the Melbourne-based media could do worse than poke and prod into these matters in an investigative way, rather than just occasionally using the "Basket Case" throw away line.

We have passed the point of simply being referred to as a "Basket Case", and into the world of "Manipulative Political Mess".

A cynical person might wonder if Caro has been warned off this story by one of her sources.

She openly stated on a footy classified episode one night when asked about the Voss sacking she hasn't bothered to look into Brisbane, basically we rate in Victorian newspapers at the moment as importance lower than the VFL clubs.

I've got no doubt. Caroline Wilson is no more or no less what Mike Sheahan used to be - a AFL flunky who will break the stories the AFL wants her to break. The AFL will provide all the inside information to that affect. Hence her pursuing of Essendon during the supplements issue and the hounding of North Melbourne re: relocating to the Gold Coast.

Mike Sheahan used to break stories regularly on Fitzroy because the AFL was supplying him with information down to the content of discussions and financial information provided to the AFL by the Club. Their agenda was to create a negative perception of the club, which would result in potential sponsors being frightened off and increase the chances of a merger.

The same source, location data principally from Twitter, FB, I believe. This is not rocket science and is sometimes inexact but we did the best we could.

You got my email address from Twitter or Facebook? That is an extraordinary claim and to my knowledge and experience you cannot pull email addresses from those sources. You might want to get your IT gurus to contact those companies and tell them about this wonderful way you have found of breaching their security protocols.

Not necessarily from AJ himself that one. I don't think that was direct electioneering as such. I am somewhat happy that they've at least publicly stated that the club has no direct relationship with the Doctor, and that they are still investigating the privacy concerns. I actually emailed the club yesterday to specifically ask those two questions, and at least there has been some public response.

In his latest statement Angus's insists that the club has no relationship with Dr Pinskier, other than the fact he is a member, answers nothing. The question that needs to be answered is, what relationship he has with any current board members?

I agree Always A Lion - but if it turns out that there IS a relationship (for which I've got no doubt there is) with any individual or Board Member, then the Club can't back down after making such a public statement to suggest their isn't. They'd be embarrassingly screwed if it turned out there was a relationship or if it turns out that the listing was leaked.

Exactly.

Can't remember if this has been linked or quoted on here from last week but worth another read;

Of course a Queensland doctor wouldn’t be good enough for these lion cubs, so they send out the SOS to the good doctor from Melbourne, Henry ‘Dr Harry’ Pinskier MD, company director, pillar of the Jewish community, mate of the Rabbi and, most importantly, ALP man. Dr Harry, former Vice-President of the Victorian branch of the ALP, is a darling of the right who was once embroiled in claims that his faction performed a masterclass in dirty politics by attempting to defeat proposed anti-branch stacking rules by using a stack! And funnily enough, the man they were trying to stack in favour of was none other than a then AWU union leader named Billy Shorten. Wonder how the new ALP leader feels about being dragged into this catfight?
But it’s no surprise that this right-wing faction leader jumps in to help in an electoral stoush where another right-wing factional leader looks like taking a pasting. These boys stick together, it’s the only thing you can admire them for, and Dr Harry’s skills in ballot control and inflating memberships may be very much-needed, as Lethal’s team presently look set to take a speccy and win control of the board.
But a sage word of advice from the butterfly to Lethal – don’t underestimate these boys skill at dirty pool – they’ve already thrown the first rabbit punch by allegedly leaking the member’s details to Dr Harry’s team, but to avoid the king hit have a very close look at the voting provisions in the Lion’s club constitution. Because hidden away in a little section at 9.12 is the following rule
The Board may resolve that the election of Directors shall take place by postal ballot conducted prior to the close of an annual general meeting and may (subject to the provisions of clauses 9.11 and 9.13) determine the form, manner of voting, timing and conduct of any such ballot. The result of the ballot shall be received at the relevant annual general meeting and the persons elected as Directors shall hold office as from the close of that annual general meeting.
The board may determine the form and manner of voting. Think about that when you ponder why the third team have waded in. Because they ain’t trying to split the vote – they’re trying to pull a DLP preference scam on you. And when it comes to postal votes, think back to the year before your first Lions premiership, because it was then in 2000 that Cameron Milner became State Secretary of the Qld ALP, replacing his mate who had recently moved into parliament. The mates name? Mike Kaiser. And his speciality? Electoral fraud. And Milner was his ALP understudy and protégé.

I explain that by reference to your tin hat.
Not good enough, Henry Pinskier. Please explain to me how you obtained an email address of mine that was not listed anywhere public, nor used for any other service other than to receive communications directly from the Brisbane Lions?
