News Lions Board Spill - update: Board Dispute Resolved

If enough people act quickly, you could see the required number of docs being submitted by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. If that is the case, assuming the current board (or more specifically AJ if there is a tie), don't deliberately delay it the EGM could be run and won by the Grand Final. Not ideal, but plenty of clubs have appointed coaches, etc after that point in time.

I would be happy with grandfinal day, i thought it was going to be October 21st originally, thus assumed it would be even later now.

And is there anything stopping the current set up appointing a Neil Craig on a 3 year contract before the EGM?

yes but stuff like a picket, pressure in the media, angrily suggesting everyone should role over to Leigh (lol), or a Paul Roos saying "ill come under Leigh's ticket" could be enough pressure now and could lead to the encumbent board to eventually bow to the unbearable realization that they stand no chance, and the change can come in the next week. I am still hopeful of a press conference announcing Angus stand down by this time next week. If not then the EGM is a necessary and very effective back up, that's still my view, the EGM is a suitable back up.

I think we agree, but the longer you leave the push for the EGM, the later it can be be legally scheduled, and the more sense it makes to wait until December. I have very little doubt that AJ and co are aware of this and will drag their feet, despite any pickets, media response or tbh, anything that they do not need to formally respond to. It's been a week since the Board spill and crickets are chirping. Members received 1 email from the Chairman which discussed Essendon, more than the club's dilemma.

In light of TLR's formally sending the EGM docs, I suspect the club will be scurrying to send something to members very soon though.

If the current board plays ball there should only a 21 day notice period, but they can delay that for a couple of months - so thats where October would've come from.

There is nothing officially stopping the board signing a coach before the EGM, but you would think it would be a horrible PR decision and disgraceful behaviour for management team with no mandate to sign the club up for a new coach. I think AJ and co should be seen as as a caretaker management prior to the EGM.

how are these votes accounted for? Is it first past the post? (say 5000 signatures needed), or a percentage of the membership base to fast track this. If it's the percentage I think it will be difficult as a lot of the Lions members are just casuals who will know nothing of this board spill.
It needs 5% of a reported 11,000 members so about 600 people.

So far 1350 or so have signed up to TLR. Shouldn't be too difficult to get the numbers.

They clearly have a mandate. They were elected specifically to make these kind of decisions up until the next AGM. They even have the figurehead of the opposition ticket on the coach selection panel.

The current board is entitled not to have to put themselves up for reelection sooner than they have to. Particularly after making an unpopular decision.

But they still need to make critical and time-sensitive decisions like the hiring of a senior coach.

The Board don't have a mandate to continue until the AGM. This isn't the same as a deeply unpopular government serving out their electoral term as long as they have the numbers in parliament.

The Board serves for as long as the members allow them to.

Yeah apart from the fact that the board is now split right down the middle giving rise to doubt over their ability to govern, the EGM provision in the constitution allows members to remove or reestablish the board's "mandate" should they choose to.

I'd suggest the Williams/Power/Matthews/Thornton release is a starting point in order to get the numbers up for the EGM to be held. There is plenty of time for them to put more detail in play prior to the EGM.

Personally for me, there was more than enough in that release for me to fill in the form for the EGM:
a) more "Football" people on the Board, especially if one of them is Lethal, is a huge step forward for the Board. So if that is all that is acheived, then its a step forward
b) the use of the words "Members and Supporters" and "engaged". In the past, the club hasn't given a damn about the non-financial supporters of the Club, whereas they should be viewed as potential members or (from a straight revenue perspective) at least potential contributors financially from a merchandise or events perspective. "Engaged" is also important - we all know what sort of engagement we want and on what particular topic. When Kelly was toppled and Johnson can in, something similar was mentioned - but what happened in terms of important additional engagement? Bugger all I'd suggest.

If this ticket indicates more engagement, and more football people on the Board, in their initial correspondence to us - then thats good enough for me to fill in the form and get moving on an EGM, and hear more from them in the coming weeks.

Very well, they have a mandate until they can be constitutionally kicked out.

Yeah, at the moment it is about having the writs lodged for an early election. Once that is done, both parties will have at least 21 days to campaign and outline their "vision".

If Johnson mentions 'Stop The Boats' or Williams mentions 'Carbon Tax', I think I'll pass out.

Question: So I have two memberships (with voting rights). Both have my name on the card and have the same membership number. Do I sent in one requisition or two?

TheBrownDog, do you have any ideas?

He should just stick with his defiant "If they don't like it, they can kick us out" - he'll be criticised less if he's consistent on this.

Are you sure both memberships have the same number? That seems strange.

dlanod your thoughts?

Yes they're both the same membership number.

I think that one vote per person aligns with the legitimacy of the action that is being taken. Wouldn't want anybody to call into question the genuineness of TLR's neutrality.

I don't buy two tickets for the sake of it. If I could lodge two letters the second would reflect the views of another person (who uses the ticket) in wanting to call an EGM to sought out the issue. I don't wish to vote twice just for the sake of it - but can understand that if they're both under my name it may be tricky.

So, the response comes, as expected.

Pretty much "a nothing to see here" from Angus. "The board can't sacrifice 4 of its 6 directors" - himself included, then doesn't really say why. Says they want Lethal, but don't say how they're going to get him...

Managed to blame: Williams & Roosy's family.

Then talks about lightning.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I wasn't clear before, sorry.

Also, only 3 of the directors are on the chopping block.
