News Lions to wear traditional jumper...now reduced by the club to the 'commemorative hat-trick jumper'

This might need a new thread.

Last year I remember filling out a jumper survey at our last home game against the Bulldogs, with PattyKisagun handing the forms out in order to collect the results. I'm not sure who got the original survey printed, but it did get me to think that whoever did that should print out signs (see below) on A4 or A3 cardboard paper and hand them out to fans before the next home games. I'd be more than happy to help out and hand out signs before the game on Saturday and again the following Friday. Surely if Malcolm and co see enough signs around the 'Gabba, they would have to listen to us. I've come up with seven designs.

Would be nice to know who were the other fans who helped with the survey along with the person who printed it out.

What do you guys think?

P.S. I'm sleepy so some of this may not be worded properly.

Edit: we should do this in all our remaining home games to make sure the message truly gets across.

I am all for what you have stated. Obviously it is a big task to undertake but I would be very willing to put money forward to see a large number of these printed on A3 and handed out prior to the game Vs Collingwood. Someone on here would have the knowledge or the capabilities to do this. If we can make funds to sponsor players then surely we could find funds to sponser this. One of my favourite quotes is, "ordinary men do great things." Viva la resistance!

I’m a big Coodabeen Champions fan. Been batting around contributing something for their footy songs section about the jumper.

Here’s what I’ve got at the moment, to the tune of Steve Miller’s ‘Jet Airliner’.

Thoughts?

Leavin home, go down to the Docklands
A sight I’ve seen before
Brisbane are wearing the old jumper
And I think it looks quite superb
The players are playing like men inspired
And I feel like the jumper’s the cause
It’s like two thousand and one all over again
And you know it’s always good to see the Bombers lose.

Bring back the old Brisbane Lion
Don’t let its memory fade away
Oh, bring back the old Brisbane Lion
On the jumper it should always stay

Next week they’ll go back to wearing a strip
With a Lion straight out of a cartoon
A big bright yellow monstrosity
They really can’t get rid of it too soon
They won three flags with the old jumper
Why they changed it I will never know
And think of what it would mean to their Victorian fans
To see the players wear the old Fitzroy logo

Bring back the old Brisbane Lion
Don’t let its memory fade away
Oh, bring back the old Brisbane Lion
On the jumper it should always stay

Bring back the old Brisbane Lion
Don’t let its memory fade away
Oh, bring back the old Brisbane Lion
On the jumper it should always stay

Love your work as always Everton. It will be a very special site seeing these scattered all over the Gabba. It will definitely get a lot of talk going as well. :thumbsu:

I know there was a person who got surveys printed last year. If he/she can get surveys printed than that person should be able to get signs printed.

I'll be willing to chip in the costs as well and hand them out before home games.

I may have drunk some beer at that moment if we're looking to be completely accurate.

Well I drank plenty of beer before that so my recollection of events is as follows;

Finally collected my jumper. Gee this is such a good looking jumper...

Are you Brisbane based? Did you get notification by the club that it was available or did you just rock up?

Looks awesome :thumbsu:

They're being shipped now Jorgs. Got my confirmation e-mail (that it has been sent) today. Am guessing Everton chose the "collect" option.

looking forward to receiving mine soon then. Hope the Club is wise enough to offer up the Match worn ones from Saturday for Auction as I want to smell that success again and again. They are turbo charged garments compared with the worthless rags we turned up in against the Doggies and Roos!
I'm number 266 likes on the facebook page.

Yep, Brisbane based.

Friend said on her status that she got the call that her jumper was available for collection. I didn't get a call or text but I did call the Lions shop and I got told that the jumper is available for collection. Chose to collect it since I'm not working today.

Ta GG. I selected to Collect also. Haven't received an email confirmation yet though.

We, the dwindling number of Members in 2013 are the real stakeholders in our Football club and as such should be allowed to vote on the playing strip we wish to see our team in. The creative team put in charge of the Paddlepop design most likely are not followers of our club and purely design with merchandise sales in mind and no understanding of the meaning behind our original Lion design which heralded in the new beginning of our merged entity and won us three flags in a row. That to me is both sentimental and meaningful. Take the example of the magpies who refuse to bow to the modern trend of continual playing strip changes to only moderately tweak there holier-than-thou black and white stripes.
My four Membership votes say give us back what we love, want and revere and that is our original strip.
Without us members there really is no Brisbane Lions....

Well said mate :thumbsu:

Same here, haven't heard anything either. Wonder if I get it before this week whether I can con my mother into giving it to me before my birthday....... or maybe I can just tell her they haven't contacted me to pick it up until next week.... :D

Collected mine today after a call from the shop.

Damn it is one good looking guernsey.

Apparently they're still sorting out the pre-orders, but will have stock in store for purchase for the game this weekend.

Will they be selling them at the GABBA against Collingwood?

Flying up and figure I'd get one while I'm there or else I'll just order online if not.

Elliot Yeo you star.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

This is the text of the email I sent the club today.

To Malcolm Holmes & Angus Johnson
To see the team in the true Lion on Saturday was awesome, and they played like a true Lions team. You have stated that the jumper issue is a minor one, but it is not -
we are losing memberships because of this issue
we are losing merchandise revenue because of this issue as there are many like me who will not buy anything with this cartoon symbol on it - but will commit to purchases when our true symbol returns
we are losing games because of this issue. Could you not see the pride & intent of our team on Saturday - rather than being clad in the paddlepop symbol of surrender from the dark years.
This issue will not go away. Have you held a secret ballot of the playing group? Ask them which symbol they would go into battle for.
At the very least, have a vote by our members, and if the current jumper is the preferred, then I and many like me will respect the will of the majority.
Is your reluctance to canvas the preferences of the members - your employers - or players due to being uneasy about how such a vote will turn out?
Give us our say.
Yours sincerely...........
Keep the pressure up
Everton Lions, brilliant. I know you are a student & if you need some dosh for signs tpo give away, I will chip in - just let us know. Perhaps you can start a fund & print thousands - I know you will find the fans to display them. That will have to get the hieraschy's attention

I think they said there were only 600 in total, so if you really want it I'd order and pick up, otherwise risk it being sold ot. Might need to do that over the phone though

Time is of the essence in this campaign. Decisions will be made regarding the 2014 jersey and merchandise within the next month or so. Members of the club should recommence their own email contacts with the club now. I am sure many have sent numerous emails in the past without any response but its time to get back on that horse and give it another shot. I sent this one today.

Attention Malcolm Holmes and Angus Johnson

What a pleasure it was to see our boys celebrate an outstanding win against a traditional rival. Both teams attired in their traditional strip going at it for four exciting quarters.
Next week Essendon will play in their traditional jersey again (or a close variation) but we will revert to the despised Cartoon Lion jersey just because the CEO and the Board will not take heed of the popular opinion of paying members and supporters and allow our team to be represented in the traditional jersey of our club.
It's time to take notice of members wishes. You do not run a Private Company where you get to call the shots without recourse. There are a number of protest movements rapidly gathering steam who would like to see the issue put to a vote before you make decisions for the 2014 season. They are out there and active on blogs, twitter and facebook etc
You face a further erosion of membership and corporate box revenue if you fail to act. Even If you don't respect the subjective emotion you can surely see the impact on revenue. If you fail to act you will see this issue continue to be played out in all forms of media to the detriment of the club.
Angus Johnson promised a more inclusive club with respect for members wishes. It was seen as a breath of fresh air after the divisions of the past. Unfortunately Members and players are reminded of those divisions every week the team runs out in the current jersey.

Go Lions

I pre-ordered mine, hope to get a phone call or message this week so I can pick it up prior to or on Saturday. Can't wait to get the jumper. Does the jumper have the mini Lions throughout like the players edition?

Yeah it does. It also has the names at the front.

Pretty sure there will be another run.

On Saturday, they sold out. At the post match function they said they would take orders and post to Victoria for free.

Am saving $$ for my Arizona adventure later this year, so was going to bypass, but saw them Saturday and had to buy one... used my $15 vouchers I have from my memberships which made it a bargain!!!

Best bit of the day was when at the Collingwood game, I was sitting there at half time minding my own business, when the stupid Kiss Cam focused in on me... There were Collingwood fans jeering as I shunned the lady sitting next to me and just pointed at the Lion on the guernsey. It really was my lucky night when the before mentioned lady then grabbed me and gave me a kiss as well. I have no idea who she was.... we are going to a movie later this week, cheap date for me as we will get senior citizen discount too:thumbsu:

True story......
