News Lions to wear traditional jumper...now reduced by the club to the 'commemorative hat-trick jumper'

As an avid collector of Brisbane jumpers I would actually think that sales would increase if this was deemed to be the last season in the dreaded Paddlepop design.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing too.

I too collect Lions jumpers, yet to purchase a PP jumper, and the only reason I would is if the club announced that the PP was being phased out, and even then, I would never be caught dead wearing it.

But imagine the value in being the sponsor that led the charge in bringing back the original Lion.

Very true, but if those companies have invested money in advertising incorporating the current logo, the coup could be costly!
Maybe a direct approach to one of these major sponsors and getting them on board could give us clout well beyond our band of merry followers?

Agreed, but I never wear mine anyway and they are rowed up on my side of the walk in robe. Except all the Match worn ones which have to live in the garage due to the rest of the family refusing to allow them indoors. What's wrong with the stink of blood, sweat, B.O, gatorade, mud, victory, loss and all sorts of other nasties, but I love these ones best!!

It makes the guernsey!!

Love the stench of a new match worn guernsey. Reddo's jumper from the Bulldogs game last year takes the cake... phewww

Might buy one - might spill some oil in the garage one day.:)

It's a small thing, but I love how on the 3-Peat jumper the maroon creeps a bit higher on the front, and covers the entire number on the back (compared to what we were wearing in 2009). If we were to re-introduce this jumper, funnily enough I think it would be an improvement.

What amazed me most about the strip on the weekend was that I had concerns re: going back to the straight up original lion, in that I thought (after the PP) it might look stale or old - perhaps a bit of a revamp would be needed just to "get with the times". The Costa Sports lion that was floating around, I thought, might be that middle ground.

After seeing the boys out on the ground in the traditional strip last week though, I'm convinced.

No update is necessary. It's perfect just the way it is IMO.

I'm with you GG.

It looked "striking" if that makes sense. I know a factor in that perception is because its not worn week after week. But the classic Brisbane Lion itself, in terms of the size and shape added the authenticity of making it look like a real AFL football guernsey.

The PP itself just doesn't look authentic to me as a guernsey logo, but in addition because of its size, to me it just makes a hash of color and outline on a football field. Not only does the Lion look like a Paddlepop Lion, but given the hash of color swirls, on the field it makes the guernsey look like one of those Rainbow Paddlepops....

Whereas - the classic Brisbane Lion on the jumper. To me - striking lines and outlines. And looks like a football jumper.

Picked up my "Hero Guernsey" today. It looks so smart.:thumbsu:
This is the first item I have bought made by Kooga. I must say despite the excitement of getting my hands on one of these, I was a little disapointed in the quality. Didn't have time to look around the shop so I don't know what the quality of their other gear is like but this one is quite thin and looks a little "slapped together" compared to the Puma one and more so the Russell Athletic ones. I wore my 2001/2002 guernsey on Saturday and noticed the quality of fabric compared to my Pumas. It has held up well over 12 years but this new one looks and feels flimsy.
Anyway, it's the design and occasion that makes today's purchase special. I may only wear it once (round 10) and put it away as a keepsake or frame it. Main thing is the design looks awesome and the occasion is historic. If there is ANY way you can afford it, GET ONE.

So much for keeping a Poker face on this one, not only have you alerted all the tragics here that the Club has put up all the match worn jumpers up for auction, you've gone pretty early on the Blacky call!!
Hope you've been saving up cause that one might have some competition!!
Personally I want them all so I can reinact last Saturdays game minute by minute, kick by kick...

So I assume you got the phone call? I ordered mine on the 12th, and I'm DESPERATE to get my hands on it. I think I might just turn up unannounced and see if I can grab one.

Nah, after reading here or twitter of others getting their's I rang them.
Said they were working through the szes and first ordered/ first processed. When he saw I was a collect, he said I could come down. If you've ordered for pick up, I would just call first so they can dig yours out.
I ordered on the 3rd and they told me they had heaps of orders in the first couple of days (April 30?).

Just a hunch, but remember that in 2001, the polyestery type jumpers were still in their relative infancy. I reckon materials are even lighter now, for player cool and comfort. So might feel flimsier, but might also be advanced in the lightness and coolness for players, rather than spectators.

If we were really talking heritage, then they'd be burley seekum wool. Or if we were geelong, hand knitted by nanna...

Bit of a numpty question here...are match worn 3-peat jumpers going to be auctioned?

I've heard talk, but not seen anything definitive, unless I missed it.

Has there been any response by the club since last Saturday in regards to the positive reaction and people asking for the return of the original jumper?
