Hawks will probably want draft capital, so I can absolutely see them tabling him. If no takers, may even be delisted given his injury issues. I'd take him for a third rounder if it means we don't cop mac and cheese every week.

Jesus, what a fall.

Wingard was good (albeit not as good as he was with us) under Clarkson but fell off a cliff since the Sam Mitchell led tank. He's a player who lives for the big time but has been stuck playing the smallest possible time for a team that doesn't even want to win.

His fall the last couple of years is a) no surprise, and b) very easily reversible in an environment that properly motivates him. Are we that environment, given our history? No idea, but for a third rounder you'd give it a crack, wouldn't you?

Cats or pies would be ideal for him

I doubt his issues are 'easily revisable' and don't think he'll ever get close to what we have seen from him in the past. Would the club take him back ? Would be home back ? If both of those are a yes, for a 3rd rounder you'd be crazy not to get him back.

Don't agree with your assessment of his career to date.

He was brilliant at Port early on.
Good at Port the last few seasons.
Average at Hawthorn during the Clarkson years.
Really average now.

You could throw a third rounder at him but the chances of getting the 2013-2015 version are completely nil.

It’s exactly the opposite

They were the form team in the comp with Darcy Cameron much improved and doing a decent job… now with their two first ruck choices out they’re no longer the form team and are scraping together wins.

A combined 14 points with wins over essendon and Adelaide, two teams that will almost certainly finish outside the 8 and that everyone would have had them as walking over before Cameron went down.

Pies form this year really proves the value of ruckmen.

They’ll be absolutely counting down the days until Cameron comes back into the side

Also, Geelong would kill to have a better ruck.. from reports they’ve had a crack at trying to bring a few in. Went hammer and tongs at freos Darcy I believe?

In the end Stanley and Blicavs are serviceable, and cats have a plethora of rucks they drafted that couldn’t get fit and come on so geelongs made do with what they can get.
With Cameron and Grundy as the ruckmen over the last year, and at the start of this season, Collingwood were 16th for centre clearance differential and 16th for scoring differential from centre clearance.

Since Darcy was out of the side, those two numbers are 5th and 1st. But yeah they've totally shown you need a ruckman.

Strange that Geelong weren't interested in the kid with ridiculous hit out numbers over his first 7 games though...

Anyone with eyes can tell pies are missing cameron, and if your stats are true, they just support that stats without context are flawed.

Possibly pies are sacrificing something to make up for the lack of a better ruck?

For all your examples of pies supposedly being a much better stoppage team they’ve barely gotten over the line against teams they were expected to beat easily.

The best example for a port fan is obvious… by any stat you want to look at, ports defense is perfectly fine. Hell, it’s better than fine, it’s very very good.. and we don’t need better key defenders at all.

Of course, anyone with a set of eyes knows our defense isn’t fine, and it’s hinkleys gameplan that sacrifices other things so that defense looks better than it is.

Averaged 18.4 touches and around a goal and a goal assist per game under Clarkson. It's not elite AA quality numbers, but it's certainly enough that he'd be a walk up start to our team if he could get those numbers here.

Lol bringing Wingard back here is lunacy.

The guy is done.

Depends on getting his body right.

He's clearly playing for nothing but a paycheck at Hawthorn now.

If the hunger of a premiership at his hometown club was on the table, I'd back him in and back him in to give more than Orazio.

Hes a big LeBron fan so the lure of coming home to win the flag could do it.

If Ken is gone and JnrBurger isn't, never say never.

Maybe

If Hinkley goes I'd take Wingod back in a heartbeat.

Instant upgrade on Raz, Mac N Cheese, and insert any other prototypical Hinkley small forward

Yeah, I 100% agree with this.

I always prefer the eye test to stats.

However, one of my favourite stats is that during Hinkley's reign, with a much vaunted statistical defence, we've only had one defender make the All-Australian team and he is presently playing forward, albeit a forward defensive role.

This is incorrect - Aliir made the AA team in 2021.
