Go to the New York Times website and click on their "big map". To the left of the page (down past half-way) there is a slider which you can slide from 2008 back to 1992. You can also zoom on each state to bring up the map of the counties. In combination you can see which candidate won which counties in each particular state back to 1992.

Thanks for that. That's what I was looking for.

Never underestimate the utter stupidity of much of the American public.

After all, Bush was re-elected in 2004.

Yeah I agree, it is a disgrace that they are voting on race. And some of the stupid comments I heard last night from the American public no wonder they aren't as respected around the world. Last night on 4 corners I heard people saying stuff like we wont vote for him cause he's black, he is against guns, he is a Muslim terrorist who is a socialist and will only stand up for the blacks, Muslims etc. ****ing disgrace, that's why I think Obama will loose American public will show their true colours.

A suggestion to all Obama supporters...

RELAX!

Nothing is going contrary to plan.

The fact that we haven't had calls on SC, GA or WV yet is great news.

How can we relax is all ****ing bad for us so far. This is a disgrace and reflects very poorly on the South of America.

BBC calls South Carolina... (as expected)

Great start for Obama. Indiana has very few votes from Indianapolis and Gary yet its still extremely close, and Virginia has pretty much only retuned rural counties so far. Watch for a big swing to Obama there when the city counties come in.

Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Tennessee, Delaware, Mississippi, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey, and Maine all close at 12.00pm AEDT.

If Obama wins Florida, has he basiclly won the election?
The opinion polling for all states won by Kerry are strongly in favour of Obama. Florida's 27 EC votes would give Obama 279 EC votes.

Put it this way - McCain cannot afford to lose Florida.

Yep,

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/11/4/194225/961/854/653079

Obama's hanging tough, and Lake County (Gary) has yet to report, Marion County (Indianapolis) is 2% in, and St. Joseph's County (South Bend) is only 33% in.

These are the Dem strongholds in the state.

UPDATE: St. Joseph's now 62% in, Marion 8% in.

Overall, 51-48 McCain.

It still looks terrific for Obama.

Update 2: Monroe County (Bloomington) also hasn't reported.

From the DailyKos which is obviously a huge Dem backer.

Irrespective of that the information is still relevant. (and encouraging)

There's no reason to distort the composition of counties.
