Interesting to hear Aker say that our training regime is too tough, anyone else know if this is true in comparison to other clubs?

Don't listen to this guy true or not he is a bitter man. It's easy to kick the boots in when things are not going to plan

He clearly has a problem with Gia. Claims not an AFL standard player but then calls him a good ordinary footballer. Firstly, not may non-AFL standard players get to 200 games, and secondly a good ordinary footballer when talking AFL is still pretty handy. Jack Dyer used that comment to describe someone who does a job week in, week out without being a star. Every club has guys like that.

His comments on Williams I thought were reasonable. I think we all know Williams cooks his own brain from time to time and has the physical attributes to compete well.

His comments about Higgins injuries and thyroiditis were a little strange. Higgins has had some groin issues that could be put down to over work, but his elbow and ankle injuries were terrible injuries for a young player to endure, a lot of players don't cop those throughout their careers let alone in consecutive seasons.

The comments surrounding training loads are a concern, although Akermanis is not a sports scientist. He also neglects to mention that while we may have been flat in the first week of finals, we've always competed at the top level in our last two weeks and you'd struggle to find anyone who would suggest we were clearly the better side in each preliminary final we've lost.

I played golf with a guy that worked with the dogs last year in physical conditioning and he said that Aker stopped preparing well for games in 2010. Said he used to be a total professional but that stopped.
I just hope he disappears very soon - his relevance seems to be waning and I think we are hearing less of him which is great.

When he came to the club it was reported that he would not listen to conditioning staff when it came to diet and recovery. Prior to starting the 2007 season he lost a considerable amount of weight due to over training throughout his long lay off. His power suffered a lot due to this.

I wonder if Akermanis's preparation suffered due to his media commitments throughout the 2010 season . Doing a morning radio slot means very early starts and not getting enough sleep, which more and more is being considered crucial for an AFL players recovery and preparation leading up to them.

Okay not trolling but I have always had an interest in the dogs.

Some interesting comments from Aker

The comment on Lake is way off the mark, he has been sensational for you guys over the years.

Higgins-must be a massive concern regarding where he is at. He is such a talented footballer and when he performs he is awesome but there are massive question marks over his body and his mental strength, definitely should be concerns regarding his ability to lead the team.

Gia- is a victim of the doggies set up, has been a more than useful forward but realistically should have played more midfield, he goes missing far too easily and once again I wouldn't see him as someone who I would want leading the team.

Think we all agree on the Williams comments and if anything i thought they were words of encouragement for Tommy.

Whether you like or hate Aker, he played great footy at the Lions and some very good footy at the dogs. He was always one of the best prepared footballers and performed on the biggest stage. The best thing to do with aker is peel back the crap and pick up on the real message.

I've accepted the challenge, peeled back the crap and here's the real message:

"I am a sad, attention seeking former footballer that has few or no friends in the football world after spending most of my life in the game. I am powered only by an overwhelming sense of paranoia that I have been picked on my whole life and must lash out at my perceived persecutors. I do this behind the mask of a "truth-teller", but the real truth is that my "truth" is little more than petty vindictiveness and an evening up of scores. I am so lonely and almost forgotten. Won't someone please pay attention to me.

By the way Open Season is still available at all reputable booksellers for the low, low price of $5."

I think this word covers it best.

Narcissism

Thanks aker you have just vindicated all the reason the club had in there decison to sack you.

Why come out now and talk about all this crap? because the teams playing like crap and lot easier for some people to believe you. Not me, now go away you bitter old man.

When Mike asked Aker about "this guy, number twelve, are we going to see him live up to his potential?" Aker replied,

"No, he is going to get to a standard, he has always been restricted by one man, and that is Tommy Williams' mind. And it's unfortunate, because he's got that physical talent. And we have given him that much scope, but eventually we have to say, you know what, Tommy, I'm good enough here, and he has never believed that and, until he does, you know, forget it, I mean's he's in his late twenties now."

Fail.

His comments regarding Higgins and half of what he said about Gia is rubbish, must of been these 2 who told him to pull his head in last year.

I did find his comments re Williams very interesting, and tend to agree with him on that. Also his comments about us sniffing around Goodwin, is this what he thinks we should do or what he is heard we trying?

I thought Higgins and Minson both having thyroid issues being linked to "over-training" pretty much summed up Aker's knowledge of biology. Not to mention his promotion of power bands.

Stick to using your legs Aker, your brain is not your greatest asset.

We have deserved every piece of criticism we have copped this week, but Akermanis is just a self serving idiot who would sell his own grandmother to get a headline.

To claim Gia is not an AFL standard player is absolutely laughable and reeks of a little kid stamping his feet really hard because someone took his toys.

Just read Peter Gordon's article on Aker last year, tells you everything you need to know about him

Tosser

We all knew Aker would just be loving all of this. He is so vindictive and can't wait to sink the boots in whenever there is a chance. His media career is solely dependent on nasty comments about the clubs that sacked him, he will never see that there was a MAJOR problem with him. He gets a lot of pleasure mouthing off. Compare this to the article by Paul Roos this morning. At least that was constructive whereas anything that Aker writes is absolutely destructive.
