Autopsy Loss to Sydney - quite literally no words will adequately sum this up

Know he's a flog but Blakey is exactly the sort of player that would propel us in the right direction, outside of a big key forward of course. He just ran past our players numerous times and the bloke is a lovely kick. Really need to find that off of half-back; whether it's Goater or someone else. You can't teach that sort of speed, agility, and then skill with the ball.

You can teach it, apparently, at the Swans Academy. If it wasn’t for them he would have been lost to the game…….

I thought it was interesting we had our best forward pressure game in ages and the Bull wasn’t playing. I love Cam, favourite player by a mile but apart from the big first efforts it not often he gives you a second or a third. It might sound crazy but defensively he is a liability in the front half.

I just wanted to mention that there has been plenty of talk and feedback about the umpires yesterday and their performance.

Can I just remind you that these umpires have names. And they have families. And their families should be absolutely ashamed.

So never forget their faces or their names because they are absolute shitc****

We start every game as the wooden spooner from the year prior and at an absoltely horrendous handicap with these muppets in charge.

Id rather they bring back the bloke who was doing dodgy punts on the brownlow. That campaigner still has more integrity than these fools.

Sat there for a long while after the siren contemplating what had just transpired. Had my 2 year old daughter with me so I didn’t partake in catapulting trash onto the field but I would be lying if I didn’t admit I was hoping the North faithful would burn the stadium to the ground in that moment.

Still, we may have been on the wrong side of villainous misdeeds, but what theatre! This beats watching us shellacked by Port without even a whimper.

Wardlaw looks like Archer reincarnated as a pure midfielder. There has been many courageous players play the game but it was the ferocity and 100%ness of Archer’s 1%ers that set him apart. Wardlaw reminded me of that today.

WillPhil was finally given proper responsibility in the middle and he was the rugged scientist in there. Understands the equation when balancing defense and offense in that contest. He made us tick.

Spicer was an interesting one. Applied great pressure and for the first time was noticeable out there for long periods. The issue is I feel like he just doesn’t have the audacity to impact the play at the moment. You get the feeling he just wants to be involved in the contest and play his role, but he doesn’t have confidence in himself to make things happen.

If CCJ backs this up next week I will dare to believe something has clicked for him. We currently do not have a reliable marking outlet in our team. Even with Larkey I’m just blindly hoping he will stand his ground and mark the thing instead of getting easily pushed underneath the ball. CCJ was that clunker we sorely needed today. Coupled with his VFL game last week, he can start turning this into real growth with a similar game against the Pies.

In that last quarter when Aaron Hall crapped his pants and dropped the mark after Goldy had assisted in protecting his space, and then duly lost the resulting contest in an effort weaker than my Daiso umbrella, you could feel the whole teams energy bubble burst. That play right there is a glaring ‘weakest link’ moment. He definitely does not have anywhere near enough credits to get away with that and stay in the seniors.

Have to give special mention to Jyza today. Heart and soul. Was the one to ignite us after we started like we were still wondering where Clarko was. His first captains game for the year. It’s been a tricky year for him so far and today looked like he had enough and finally said follow me lads. I hope he did a Matt Damon Invictus special after the game and take a swig of some dirty beer before throwing it against the wall proclaiming it tastes like defeat. Galvanize the lads Jyza.

Harry Sheezel played an almost legendary game today. With this kid maturing his football wizardry in our side, there is no doubt that we will eventually be ok. We just need him to be confident enough to demand the play even more than he does now. I thought the poster and his last set shot was going through but alas. I was going to rip off my North windbreaker to reveal the Sheezel in a Cheezel shirt I copped from that Carlton Draught website after those assumed goals but it will just have to wait for next time.

The first signs of synergy between Logue and McKay warmed the heart. First time in two months I didn’t feel a sense of doom everytime a high ball was lobbed into our defensive 50. They were able to neutralize those contests pretty well although I felt McKay played a bit too high off his man where he was just a metre short in the end from making a spoil when they kicked it over his head.

Bailey Scott had a ripper second half. Got us back into the game with his positioning, run, and link up. Some of his careless handballs and kicks inside 50 caused a bit ire the first half but he played like an All Australian winger in that second half. Shows that he can be a very damaging player when we get better as a football team. Wingers tend to shine a bit brighter when their team is dominating the football.

All in all, I only ask that you get my heart racing at the game North and that was worth going to the football for.
Agree with most of this. Credit to Ratten for swapping opponents with Logue and McKay early when Buddy was getting loose. Also the Spicer comments. He only seems to want to be on the periphery. Can’t have that when everyone else is giving plenty. Jy led from the front. Awesome effort.

Spot on but he's not alone - we have a number of mid-age to senior age players who give selective effort without the ball which is the main reason we've been so uncompetitive. He's one of them. He's a low pressure and inside-50 tackle player. And he tries to do it all himself when he does have it.

Can I just point this out

Our kids DOMINATED against the team who made the grand final last year.

If you look at the Telstra tracker it’s obvious that they are way fitter and faster than us but it just proves we dug in and actually tried
Without LDU. And Cunnington as well I guess who has long been our number one clearance player.

Whatever we're paying Jordan Russell, it isn't even close to being enough. Even when we were regularly getting reamed during Noble's inglorious tenure as coach, we rarely got beaten badly in the midfield and around stoppages. He is an elite operator.

Goldy probably deserves a bit of credit as well. I will openly weep when he finally retires.

While winning the game would have been great , the performance by most of the players was inspiring and keeps us in touch in the race for Harley Reid. Sheezel is improving with every game, Wardlaw shows us why we we happy in getting him and HE GOT THROUGH THE GAME INJURY FREE!!. Scotts best performance to date and he has now set the bar for what is expected of him. Not sure on Drury, but l cant see Spicer making it. Stevenson had a shocker and will have pressure on him to keep his spot especially when we get back Zuurhar, TT . The future looks bright and we must keep up our support for the club. Go Roos!

Shiels pinned the arm, rolled him onto his side, ball is dislodged after the tackle is executed perfectly.
His arm actually goes to handpass before its pinned so how much prior does he need.

This shit cost us a goal and the game. c***s
The whole lot of them are just c***s

Aside from the manner of the final dagger yesterday - let's just consider the last 9 times we were a chance during a last quarter.

Round 2, 2022 v West Coast - Ahead all day against a WAFL team but couldn't land a final blow and won very unconvincingly.
Round 4, 2022 v Sydney - 14 up early in the last but gave up the last 4 goals and lost
Round 17, 2022 v Collingwood - Led all day but goalless in the final quarter and lost
Round 18, 2022 v Richmond - Led by 6 goals but lost the lead late in the game but Zurhaar got it back late - but still nearly lost it.
Round 22, 2022 v Adelaide - Neck and neck all day. Adelaide five goals to nil in the last.
Round 1, 2023 v West Coast - Ahead by 6 goals but just hang on against another very ordinary team.
Round 2, 2023 v Fremantle - 19 points up 24mins into the last. Four minutes later we're 1 point up and just hang on
Round 3, 2023 v Hawthorn - Behind all day but have all the momentum with 5 straight goals to get within 3 points. Hawks dominate the last 20 mins.
Round 10, 2023 v Sydney - Again five straight goals has us nearly 3 goals up. Cough up the last 3 and lose by 3 points.

We're so accustomed to losing, we get into winning positions and don't know how to finish out a game. It so frustrating but it will turn. We just have to maintain efforts like yesterday and be in that situation more often. Can't let the effort drop off ever again.

Of our inside mids/ruckmen (with centre clearance attendances being an indicator of time playing on ball):

Simpkin - 26 attendances - 21 pressure acts - 5 tackles
Greenwood - 18 attendances - 26 pressure acts - 8 tackles -
Philips - 23 attendances - 14 pressure acts - 4 tackles
Wardlaw - 18 attendances - 31 pressure acts - 9 tackles
Sheezel - 11 attendances - 18 pressure acts - 5 tackles
Goldstein - 26 attendances - 14 pressure acts - 1 tackle
Coleman-Jones - 6 attendances - 10 pressure acts - 5 tackles

Fisher is straight up rigging games. Only the AFL would allow someone to officiate over their own team. Smug **** who needs that smirk smacked off his face.

Imagine a retired Barca player giving the Leigh Fisher treatment during an away game?

They'd leave the ground in a body bag.
