No not really. A player with massive deficiencies is let go by a club. Doubt it's the first time it's happened.
He polled in the Brownlow in over 50% of the games he played in last season and he didn’t play a lot.

If you think Ratten is a decent coach good luck to you and that is your own call to make.

He is a ball butcher and slow. He also has off field issues that make him a liability around a group.

Off field issues that make him a liability??
Care to elaborate?

He had a 6 week purple-patch where he played out of his skin after coming in from the VFL, in a year where he was OOC and playing for his career, but then over the following 5 weeks he went back to much more like his usual self (including 18 and 20 disposal games), so much so that he was dropped back to the VFL for the final round (after a 20 disposal, 8 clanger game).

He was then apparently going to be offered a new contract (according to a post in this thread quoting an interview with Luke), but he wasn’t interested, and as such it was mutually decided that we’d go our seperate ways.

He’s acting like a “gilted lover” who’s spat the dummy because of a difference of opinion, and is airing the dirty laundry, instead of just moving on like a grown up.

But then again he’s always been an emotional guy, who wears his heart on his sleeve, so maybe it’s to be expected.

It’s also worth noting that he had a 6 week purple-patch at the end of 2017 as well (where he averaged 28 disposals, kicked 5 goals and got the most votes in our B&F), but it took him almost 4 years to back it up with another stretch of games that were anywhere near that level.

So if we’d kept him on there’s no guarantee at all that he would have backed this one up. Especially as he’d already dropped back to much more like his old self.

I’m going to humbly suggest that given he was one of the best in the business at it, played with and against some of the best in the business at it and has coached some of the best in the business at it that Ratts is far better qualified than most to recognise midfield talent when he has it at his disposal.

If he subsequently doesn’t rate Luke as highly as he clearly rates himself, it’s probably for very good reason.

What about the years before that isolated stretch of games? It took dropping him and telling him that he is done at the Saints for Luke to start playing for his career.

Dunstan is like Cunnington if he wasn't the worst kick in the comp, but because he is he's just Luke Dunstan.
Nar not really.

Cunnington is a great contested ball winner.

Dunstan has his kicking deficiencies, but on top of that he's just an ok contested ball winner

He's not a ball pig like Cunnington, not even close unfortunately.

Barely fit barely finishes a session last on the track first off. Diet is poor preperation is poor.
Sounds like he will fit right in with Oliver and it doesn’t seem to harm Clarry! 🤣🤣

We cater to all dietary preferences. For example Ben Brown is a Vegan and Tom McDonald is on an all meat diet, I'm sure an all KFC diet will fit right in

:)
Zinger Burgers for the win but just dont add the Bacon and Cheese! 🤣👌

The bvtt hurt on St Kilda fans here is excellent.

These guys still rate Brad Hill and Zak Jones ffs.

your opinions on footballers no longer count.

I don't watch many Saints games so I know nothing about him as a player. No idea if I should be excited or disappointed. Time will tell. Welcome aboard!

Neutral is probably the best. Not an amazing player, but gives Melb much needed depth and they didn't need to give up anything to get him. If he plays, awesome, if not it doesn't matter.
