Not in any way is that true. Dunstan is a ball butcher and a slow one at that.
There's an obvious difference between the the two.

Dunstan can play one position and one position only.

We are trying to develop young mids which means Ross spends a lot less time inside the centre square.

If Dunstan could play more than one role he would likely be playing every week.

Dunstan had a very good run of form for 4 weeks no doubt, but Ross has clearly been a much better player over their careers.
Ross has clearly been a better player throughout his career. And still is the better player.

It's not even close.
Ross - slow and can't kick.
Dunstan- slow and can't kick. Can win contested ball and is younger

Zak Jones is a massive down hill skier and half the footballer his brother was, and maybe quarter as tough.

massively overrated and a pretend tough guy at that.

They will. They don’t say “paperwork lodged and details being processed” if it’s done with nothing further.
Yep.
Im also not sure why it’s taking that long.
Unrestricted FA’s tend to have their papers stamped pretty quickly, as there is no haggling involved.

Dunstan: Slow and can't kick and can't run.

Tough faux guy alright.

Happy to try and dish out a cheap wack from time to time but shits himself when it comes to putting his head over the ball.

Most overrated player going around.

I wasn’t expecting it to come through after 6. AFL House seems to close around 5 except for deadline day which is 8 or something and then they all go home and you don’t find out the details until the next day.

Also with lockdown they’re probably working from home which might explain the initial delay

He polled in the Brownlow in over 50% of the games he played in last season and he didn’t play a lot.

If you think Ratten is a decent coach good luck to you and that is your own call to make.

good coaching, would have scored less in the midfield medal if he had played a full 22 games.

Dunstan is better inside though. That counts more than being able to get uncontested ball only to turn it over
Half the game now is the ability to spread both offensively and defensively nowadays. Ross is still a good inside player who spreads well defensively which is infinitely more important than getting a couple more contested possessions.

Ross is a better player than Dunstan. There's a reason one was kept and the other shown the door.

Glad to have him off the list so he can't tempt the coaches to play him with impressive VFL numbers. He is never going to be good enough to establish himself in the best 22 of a finals side. Outside of a couple of good patches of form in contract years he has been well below the standard required of an AFL onballer. Terrible disposal, poor decision making, ordinary tank and isn't particularly strong in the contest either.

Thanks for the effort Luke, but we should have moved you on years ago.

Haha what crap.

You seem to have some issues with Zak. They seem to be clouding your judgment.

I simply don’t rate him, he isn’t inside , he isn’t hard, and he’s the epitome of a down hill slalom skier, his disposal isn’t horrible but it’s not elite.

He’s certainly no star.

On the surface it looks like Dunstan is direct insurance for the role Viney plays in the midfield. Viney isn’t quick, his disposal isn’t fantastic and he isn’t the best at spreading. What he is good at and what the role he plays is to get first hands to the footy and help Trac, Clarry etc to explode from the contest, this move looks to be direct insurance against one of our most important roles.

Yep, Dunstan is good at this and very good at clearance from around the ground stoppages. I think at one point this year he was leading the AFL for average stoppage clearances above guys like Libba etc.

His strengths are that he's a hard nut who can win contested ball and clearance or feed the ball out. His weakness is his kicking but he does have some length on his boot so if you can make that work by having a simple game plan and clear instructions he could be a very good player.

I remember Oliver used to be lambasted for his kicking and Dunstan's kicking is at about the level Olivers was in 2018-2019

That's fair but he'd be better depth than Ross, right?
Your comparing him with a different type of player. Bytel is younger and has much more upside than Dunstan and that's probably why Dunstan was told to seek a new start. I'm glad Dunstan gets another go at a good team.
