I agree Darling would be a very good pick up for us. Darling and Grundy for Jackson would definitely be going all in over the next 3 years for flags.

That was my thinking as well. Next 3 years Dees would be hot favourites for the flag.

Lose Jackson and gain a better ruck in Grundy and a better kp forward in Darling and still likely get a 2nd rounder to use as well.

All of a sudden Melbourne's rucks and forward line wont have difficulty taking a mark.

Absolute nightmare for oppo coaches and teams to match up. And just watch Pickett crumb 40 plus goals.

Eagles may just tip in some $ for two years to sweeten the deal.

GC get pick 5 for Rankine and 43 - values Rankine as pick 9 on points.

WCE trade 2 and 20 for GC’s 5,7 and 25 - values splitting pick 2 as worth pick 22.

WCE trade 7 and Darling for Jackson and 32 - values Jackson as Darling + pick 17

WCE
In - Jackson, 5, 25, 32
Out - Darling, 2, 20

MFC
In - Darling, 7
Out - Jackson, 32

GC
In - 2, 20, 43
Out - Rankine, 7, 25

Ade
In - Rankine, 43
Out - 5
Darlings going nowhere.

You know guys like Bruhn, Amon, Lobb, Ollie Henry, Ben Long, Bobby Hill, Willy Rioli and Rankine have all recently stated their club of choice. Jackson hasn't. Seems a little odd don't you think? What reason is Jackson any different to these guys?
Without a doubt WC should go hardat him, and you guys should land that deal pretty easily. The equation looks pretty simple.

I'd go as far as to say Melbourne failing to extract pick 2 and potentially a sweetener from WC should be seen as a massive failure. Heads should roll kind of territory.

Gc will want more.
And darling wont leave WA.

To be honest, wth the boring nature of how melbourne played this year I'd like the club to take the picks to the draft. As well as switch our future 1st with another clubs 2022 first.

Out: Jackson, Melbourne's future first
In: Pick 13, Freo's next years first, Another clubs future first.

Bring in some key forwards and a key defender and maybe actually breath some life into this club after a very boring 2022 which involved a game plan which was a cure for insomnia and a narrow minded selection committee.

He suits WCE far more.

I think they should put a big ticket on his head and walk him to the PSD.

Why would WCE give up pick two in the draft for him?

Why would Jackson agree to that?
I suspect much of the last however many weeks have been Melbourne in Jackson’s ear about supporting his move west, but also that he shouldn’t do the dirty on a club that invested much into his development by forcing a deal with just one club.

Hence him not (publicly) nominating a club of choice.

Maybe Melbourbe truly convinced him either of West Coast or Freo are a good choice for different reasons, and he’s agreed to go to whichever gives Melbourne the best deal. West Coast while down now are the bigger club and can likely provide more opportunity outside of footy.

All speculation, but it fits the facts we know.

Sure, but WC can put an offer to Jackson which he agrees to, and a trade offer to Melbourne, which they can take or leave. There would be no stopping him getting there. They certainly won't be doing Melbourne favours if it comes to a trade.

Their offer to Jackson would need to be in the ballpark of Fremantle's, which may also be a problem for them. The Fremantle offer is clearly beyond where Melbourne rates him.

Probably just spitballing but I think the reason he doesn't mind either team is Freo has a massive offer and in a window. He was also a Nic Nat fan so I think that has some bearing also.

Or he hasn’t mentioned either team yet as his manager is still negotiating terms with both WA teams. Same thing happen with Cerra last year before he named Carlton.

Jackson probably needs a backup plan if negotiations get hard. I’m not sure he’s all about getting Melbourne the best trade.

Let’s face it, you have no idea and neither do I.

Yeah, while I'd like it to be true that Jackson is trying to get us the best trade, it makes little sense to sabotage the draft hand of the club you're going to, just to compensate the one you're leaving.

It seems more likely that it's a ploy from his management to see if there's a nibble from WCE to drive up his contract offer at Freo, or a backup if negotitations fall through (i.e. things that directly benefit him, not Melbourne).

Getting Darling as part of the trade would be huge for Melbourne.

We've never been a push players out the door club - if anything we've been the opposite to a fault.

But if we were going down the path of getting rid of large contracts/ veterans Darling would be down the bottom of that list.

Has only just turned 30, JK has retired and not surprisingly has always looked his best (superstar level even) when JK is out of the side.
