We can only afford to lose 5 games from here at most to make 8th position. so we'd have to hypothetically finish the season with a 10 & 5 record, it may even have to be 11 & 4 if the results continue to be so lopsided. Its not impossible but I haven't seen anything that convinces me we are back. We are 2 games away from 8th spot as it stands. too far back. Not to mention, teams such as Brisbane and Collingwood who are currently out will start snaring games and make a run as well.

I'd say the Brisbane game is our GF. If we lose this game its over.

That's harsh on the Carlton win I'd say. We had some good fortune but played well enough to hang with a likely top 4 side away from home and get the win. That's pretty good, even if on another day we maybe lose a close one.

We have only won 2 games in a row, including 1 against the worst team.

We have moved from Ugly losses to Ugly wins.

We have also had luck on our side against The Pear and Carlton. I can’t imagine that we will go on a 10-5 run from here but we can consolidate the development of our Kids.

Agree. We are good enough to win a lot of games but the hurdle is the top 8 teams and then you have Collingwood and Brisbane to leap frog plus any other teams. Port drops out for mine though. I dont think they will make finals this year. So the field does open up. But again, its a big hurdle. To be safe we can only lose 4 more games for the year. Thats a bloody big ask.

Possibly. If we’d been given the Keays goal in the Sydney game (not complaining about this again, just putting out the scenario), we’d have made the finals with a 12-11 record

I’d say it’s most likely you make finals with 13 wins (not absolute, though), and possible that you do with 12 (although you would have to boast a very good percentage)

All that said, I doubt we make it

Have easier games against West Coast, Richmond and Hawthorn (twice). Also Port, St Kilda and the Bulldogs (all at home, though it's an away Showdown)

To make finals you'd think we'd need 13 wins minimum, or 12 with a strong percentage. Which means winning all seven "easier" matches and 2 or 3 of the harder ones. Five of the hard games are away, and two of the home matches are against very difficult sides

Nicks has a terrible record against most of these teams. Never beaten Sydney, Collingwood or Essendon. 1-4 against Brisbane, GWS and Geelong. 1-3 against the Bulldogs. So a combined 4 wins against 7 sides, and we play those sides 9 times.

Conversely he actually has a decent record against Carlton and Port who he's already beaten

Tough ask to make finals. Dropping those games against Gold Coast and Fremantle were costly, plus the Essendon debacle

As much as I believe we're a top 8 quality side. I don't believe we're premiership material. 5-10 range.

Best case scenario is fluking a prelim. More realistically is losing the elim.
