More you hear about rugby league more you wonder about Racing NSW with V'Landys. Don't know enough about either to have an informed opinion but its interesting.

As someone who’s spent limited time with PVL and much more with others at racing NSW this is the best description I’ve heard of him - there’s not a rumour you could here about him that you wouldn’t believe when it comes to business and how he operates.

Having said that, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather have fighting for racing and it’s participants at the moment than him.

Somewhat unrelated, I don’t think you’ll see racing return to its previous prizemoney levels after this, particularly in NSW. NSW especially, and Vic had both overspent in recent pissing competitions with each other. This gives them an out to correct it.

PVL is too short sighted and selfish and to be good for racing in general. His undermining of the Vic spring was just stupid. He can FRO into rugby league and stay there. Hate that sport and he can destroy it for all i care

Just thinking back to the creation of the everest, the race and prizemoney was guaranteed for 3 years correct? So really they can go backward in prizemoney and are not forced to hold?

PVL will be remembered for the overspending in a dick measuring contest between an enemy who should really be your closest ally.

What he did was reckless at the time and now I cannot blame people for not forseeing this once in a century or more pandemic but you need some future sight in his position, it will be forever seen as idiotic with current situation. Hopefully this is the cause of national reform because racing is in dire need of a restart of some the topline administration nationally.

You'd have to say it's unlikely to be racing too much longer. It just sends a weird message. So the 2 person rule is just pie in the sky. I love watching the races, and love a bet but surely the time has come. How many people are at the racecourse for any horse...it's sure more than 2.
No people allowed on course and the one's there are in a work environment

Predictions on how far into April racing may go?

Now that we have closed state borders, the federal government giving vibes that they would prefer states/local governments to impose restrictions on smaller clusters of outbreaks where required.

I think one of the states may hold on. Numbers have been... not catastrophic.I've even seen some predictions of a plateau in the figures.

Yes the numbers today suggesting curve starting to flatten. Early days but distancing measures and hardline approach to arrivals may actually be working

Main problem is it's still mainly imported cases or easily traceable cases which are low risk. Once we start seeing community spread figures above 25%, like NSW elsewhere in the country then we will know where we are at.

With early lockdowns like we had it may be able to be contained however that's just optimism talking.

That's true but I think/hope we may have avoided an Italian outcome

For those that really don't know anything about it, go on.
Rugbys Balance Sheet is pretty poor. AFL has Marvel they can take to the Bank for rumoured $500M. NRL has nothing. Profit & Loss must be pretty ordinary too. NRL players have a future fund supposed to be $4m paid to each year - it hasn't been paid for 3 years. Rugby players are being asked to take a much more significant pay cut than AFL counterparts.

Not sure how long PVL has been there and what his contribution to it is but the lack of financial responsibility is pretty worrying - we know Everest is expense and a big gamble so it would be interesting to know the financial responsibility that has been taking place within Racing NSW.

The state closures actually provides racing with an opportunity to race on as separate jurisdictions may be able to continue on even if one state has to abandon.
Starting now to think punters may have options for a while yet. That may be Darwin in August as the last bastion but better than nothing

Opportunity for horses in certain states to find there way to another and that state hold extra races too.

Could end up with a Goodwood held in QLD for instance. Again just wishful thinking.

On top of this harness racing in NSW and Vic has split into zones so even if one zone goes hopefully the other zones are protected.

Dogs in NSW have done the same.

Yeah I think once we get through that 14ish day period of each state being separated, and having regions in some of those, I think a lockdown is the only thing that stops us from having some states/codes racing at all times the entire way through, even when inevitable positive cases do hit racing.

Chairmans
Carif, Mustajeer, Mirage Dancer no guarantee to back up.
Chosen One I think can bounce back but been a bit disapointing this prep
How many chances does Youngstar get?

The rest of them are ok but aren't strong.

Gallic Cheiftain won this race last year 3rd up, 2nd in the Metrop 3rd up in the Spring. Going to have a nibble at $17/$5. odds boosted to $20.
