Well I finally had enough and told him so

Assuming that's really him, I don't agree with this at all. Everyone has a right to a private life no matter how shit they are at their job.

Surprised he'd come back like that though. Surely all umpires would be told just to ignore this stuff and not engage.

Screw him. He carrys on like he is a perthonality..just be careful what you say to him.

I think we're best served forwarding an entire body of evidence to both the AFL umpiring department, and integrity unit (if there is such a thing). Compile both the photographs of him socialising and making positive gestures to West Coast players, and a slew of raw data, and get this show on the road! This is no way that any umpire, in any sporting code, should be giving a gesture of affirmation to a player from one team, immediately after they score a goal.

It's interesting also, that you can lodge a report to the AFL, regarding an allegation of behaviour that may contravene the AFL’s:
Whistleblower Policy (Improper Conduct)

I wonder if the thumbs up is an instance of improper conduct?...

ummm, wtf am i reading?

You went full r_tard, man. Never go full r_tard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full r_tard, went home empty-handed.

Good to see I'm not the only one thats had a gut full of this POS.
Hagdorn even had a giggle about this tosser umpiring the derby on 6pr last Friday.

Anyone get a copy of that before it was deleted?

No, but it was having a go at Margetts over his talking to the Eagles players on the field before the game. He then said he spoke to Brayshaw and Cerra in the middle of the ground before the game but everyone seems to be ignoring that.

Why has he never umpired a grand final ?all the other umpires with his experience have ,I dont think umpires should show any familiarity with players ,they should refer to them by their number only, and never should they be seen to be celebrating a ****en goal with them. if Margettes wife is posting shit about freo he should nip it in the bud ,it is a really bad look ,what would Eddie do if it was a vic umpires wife saying shit about the pies ,our club needs to act

Why do we get him so often? Surely in a comp as professional as the AFL they would rotate the umpires yet after we have this week's game against the Cats he will have umpired 5 of our 8 games or 62%. Who cares if he is from the same state? We went all the way to Queensland and we still couldn't get away from him. My question is, is there any other team that has had the same umpire for over 60% of their matches??

This. Exactly this.

The familiarity with players surely means you can't not have bias.

Disappointed not to see the message exchange for curiosities sake, though personally I wouldn’t support messaging someone about their work. Regardless of how terrible they are.
Was along the lines of...

"I'm sick of your umpiring"

And the response was a long the lines

"Whatever mate. You messaged me. So it's our fault Taberner played on in the goal square and missed in the last quarter as well as lobb?"

It's pretty poor form to pester the guy on social media imo, but also for him to respond I find surprising. Not that I think he actually said anything incorrect, just not the greatest look to respond.

Whether it was legitimate, who knows?

I couldn’t believe he responded. As I said earlier, in any other professional sport an exchange like that with a fan would lead to instant dismissal from the role of umpire.
I think fans hassling umpires is stupid for what it’s worth. But the fact he responded is just crazy.
FFC owe it to it’s players and members to do something to remove this absolute pest of an umpire from our games. People saying “good sides beat the umpire too” are missing the point. It’s hard enough to win anything in this league and the odds are already stacked against us, without dealing with a prick like this handing soft frees to the likes of west coast at crucial times in games.
