Can't say I'm that surprised.

Found it interesting that when Tarrant retuned to Collingwood and was asked about his sucessful move to defence at Freo, he gave all the credit (and I mean ALL the credit) to Chris Scott for completely turning around what was his fading career back to success, and spoke about Scott's wonderful football brain, how he'd make a great senior coach etc.

But when asked about Harvey, he subtly damned him with very faint praise before again lauding Scott and how his departure from Freo would be sorely missed. Gave the clear impresion he thought Scott was the reason for any success Freo had last year, and didn't think much at all of Harvey.

Lyon would have informed his management and they would have advised of a conflict of interest.
There would have been talk there for sure and they should have advised Lyon to go his own way.

Lyon is not a complete fool.

So that would result in ESP dropping Ross Lyon completely? Coz they just did it.

From Perth now

"Harvey is understood to have repeatedly overruled medical opinion as players were rushed back in a desperate bid to make the finals in consecutive seasons for the first time in Fremantle's history.

But clashes over injury management are not believed to be the only concern the club held over Harvey.

Fremantle is understood to have become increasingly concerned throughout this season about a lack of communication both with players and other staff, while Harvey's tendency to lace post-match press conferences with excuses also attracted attention."

Or can't they just be honest and say they were after a better coach?

They didn't have a choice. They can't be seen to be going behind there own clients (Harveys) back. Regardless of the fact that Lyon did not use ESP, the natural inference would have been be that ESP had helped broker the deal that resulted in Harvey being sacked. Breaking from Lyon is the only way they can dispel that notion.

You would have thought that ESP would have known.....
From info out there it seems they were negotiating in good faith with St Kilda on behalf of Lyons. So three bizarre stories in one, and in one evening!

Ok,

I am often very critical of Harvey but the injury toll this year didn't help him.
That said, happy to see him go but not so sure abouty Ross Lyon.
Freo are badly failing to think outside the square here. Just gotta get some of Freo's management to meet up with Chris Scott for 'old times sake' and ply him with drink, slip a few roofies in there and get him to sign a new contract......voila! Then drag him back on a plane.

Gotta make sure he doesn't send Brad instead though, out of suspiscion or something.

Moronic decision by a club that I thought was heading in the right direction.

What coach has come in and won a premiership in one, two or even three years? They were crueled with injury but with some luck, could have been genuine top 4 contenders in season 2012.

As good a coach as Ross Lyon might be, he's not going to walk in over night and bring success to the place. Mark Harvey looked genuinely capable and while I might not have inside information, from the outside looking in Fremantle looked in as good a position as I can remember.

Just announced: Mark Harvey to come out of retirement to play for GWS.

Yep..and all he had to do was send this to convince them to sign him up.

I agree with you 100%.
Very unfortunate for Harvey who coached the team for 4 years now had a taste of finals then a disheartening season that was crippled with injury's and now the board just replaces him. Hard done by IMO.
