Markovic vs Austin

Much prefer Austin. Whether or not Marko stays depends on how many we want to delist, imo. He's in the lucky situation that he's one of the less certain ones.

He signed new contract at end of last year which I would assume was 2 years so is under contract for next year, but I doubt he will play much without injuries.

What are our chances of having a fair few injuries next year?

In our backline.....not much  I reckon even Boyd would find a way to get injured if moved to our back line at moment!

We did have a good run there for a few years though, main reason we were a decent side was keeping back 6 injury free and playing consistently together, which if you look at top sides is key factor.

Austin for sure , and with Talia and Roberts coming through do we really need Markovic - even for depth . Morris also back next year and Roughead developing down back also -

Agree with you. No one dislikes him because you can tell he really gives his all, but he looks like he should have been a backman in the 80's, the game is too quick now for him, you might keep him on one more year as back up for the other young talls, but i can't see him being good enough to be in the side when we become decent in how ever many years that is.

Agreed. He has a year left on his contract so, since we don't have the luxury of paying out players contracts regularily, it can't help to keep him on as a depth player for next year.

It is beyond me how Markovic gets a game at AFL level he has nothing going for him he is slow, doesn't read the game well, can't kick and makes bad decisions! Reminds me of St kilda's Jason Blake only shitter and more of a plodder.

I rate Austin pretty highly, anyone else think he is abit underrated?[/quote

Considering he had only played 15 games of AFL for Carlton before putting on the boots for us, I thought he showed quite a bit.

For me, it's gotta be Austin. Markovic is too unreliable, too slow and just generally not good enough. In the few games Austin has played for us he's looked far better then Marko and Marko has had a couple of years to settle back. Trouble is of course, who else do we have? If Williams can stay fit, then maybe we could let him go. Too much of a risk just yet though.

Austin was equal 1st in the club for disposal efficiency at 86% Markovic probably lead the stat for opposition goals of turnovers. One on one is about the only thing that I think Markovic might do better than Austin.

Both have issues as far as I'm concerned. Marko is not up to it and wouldn't get a game in any other team in the comp including the two newbies... Austin is injury prone but worth persevering with for now but wouldn't rush to elevate him just yet......
