List Mgmt. Marsh going home for personal reasons

Not going to go into too much detail about what I've been told, but it's not coaching (Buckley) related at all.

Marsh raised an issue to the AFLPA that had arisen due to problems with our welfare department. The same department that is in the process of being completely rebuilt from the ground up.

interesting Matty123 cause I heard that Marsh has had an issue with the coach for most of he year. don't know if that is why he's going but they're definitely not on the same page.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, on a superficial level, that he'd have an issue with the coach when this year he established himself as best 22 and moved up in the pecking order ahead of Frost and maybe even Brown.

That really irritates me as a view to be honest GG (and others who have said this pissed them off).

Collingwood might have been the best club in the land, but if he has personal issues, or there is a problem at home, then sometimes there's little we can do about it.

We don't own these guys. I was in a similar situation living interstate at the age of 27, with a wife with severe post natal depression, a two year old and another baby on the way and absolutely no family support available there and funnily enough worsening depression of my own. I went to my managers and committed what seemed like career suicide by having to give them a "transfer me to Melbourne or I have to quit" ultimatum. I hated doing it, but there really was no other way for me to look after my family.

Life happens. From what we've heard on this board, Marsh has some genuine issues he's struggling with - this isn't a cash grab.

Wish him all the best. I hope the system makes it easy and painless from our point of view to do the right thing and get him home with a viable career still in front of him. But I hope we do the right thing regardless.

Agreed = Your situation is similar to what happened with Jolly. None of us were complaining when he came to us. Swings and roundabouts. Some people overrate the appeal of being a professional athlete especially when they haven't been one

And glad you found your way to manage things

TGG doesn't accept human emotion as an excuse, you will HTFU or you can GTFO.
Nonetheless Still enjoy TGG and his whimsy

We'll get **** all for him.

What's his contract situation like?

If he's got at least 1 year left, then we should just force him to stay imo.

Sorry Marshy, but we need your services in an already low stock area. If you don't want to be professional about it, and want to whine and mope and not play for the club next season, then you can go do that and kiss your career goodbye.

He's apparently told the club either its WA clubs or retirement.

We will get bent over like we will with Cloke, Frost and possibly will get lesser then usual market price for Witts (History has his type/role etc as a late 1st round we are looking at 2nd rounder or a player).

Brisbane looking at a pick in the 60s for their next full back.

WB looking at a pick in the 70s for their new CHF.

WC/Freo might as well come in dry no lube and give us a pick in the 80s.

Keefe when hearing the news of Frost and Marsh leaving...

eiQ0a3P.gif
Plus Browny walking into Gubby's office..."about that contract you put in front of me...ahh...I'm not signing it...suggest you redraft it...then I'll consider"

So either he stinks or the club stinks?
No absolutely doubt there's some stench around the club somewhere. We're simply not a destination club, as we seem to have younger players wanting to leave, and the older players are coming to sure up their retirements.

The good news is, we might be a chance to pick up a second rounder, which might help secure young Daics or Brown.

As supporters, we can only hope that the new coach in 2018 has something worthwhile left to work with.

l find it strange that on the trade thread we are telling the club to throw any one under the bus
and say trade them their spuds etc, but if any one leaves we get all out rage them to blame the coach
or who ever for them leaving. with out any facts whats so ever.
there were two post on here one blaming bucks and one not, which one is correct l dont know
and to be frank dont care for the argument. all it seems at the moment marsh has some problems
in his life and l hope he can sort it out and if that includes continuing playing his football in w.a
so be it. not every thing is the fault of the coach or club, some people can handle living away
from home, some cannot and that is a fact of life
if he goes it is a shame marsh has talent, but the way footy is now you move on and say next
player in.
hope all the best for the young man in what ever happens in the future
Sorry I have great respect for you, left at home, but with professional footballers on excellent money and great prospects, at a time when this club is on its knees regarding playing personnel, I cannot accept your excuses for his leaving. This and other negative stuff is just relentlessly flung at us by life and circumstance, and today I have drawn a line in the stand.

Terrific thought provoking post.
It's all in for the so called potatoes, dump, run them out of town.
One player moves on, he'll breaks loose..... club in turmoil, club in crisis.
Good points, well raised Left At Home.

Can I state that I am not a 'throw them under a bus' or 'trade that spud' style poster. Loyalty is a 2 way street.

Oh really? So like Beams there's more behind the go home factor than is being admitted?

Subject: Correct. Marsh hated Buckley with a passion
In reply to: Hero1 's message, "Yep, look at what they did with buddy, the trade makes no sense if it's just Illness" on 20:20 13/10/16 Thu

Marsh is a lovey dovey guy. His best mate at the club is Brodie who is the same.

Buckley used to mock Marsh for being a flake.

We're simply not a destination club.
Treloar, Aish, Howe, Varcoe, Greenwood, Adams, Wells, Mayne and our current players who have re-signed long contracts disagree. The only really good player to leave was Beams. Shaw wanted to stay, we ditched him.
The only thing that stinks is reactions of some of our supporters when ever something negative like Marsh leaving happens. Honestly, does anyone wonder why the rest of the AFL supporters think we're a bunch of dumb-arses?
FFS

It could he more than one reason. Sometimes as people if we are unhappy on several fronts..
Missing home (family and friends), club welfare doesn't look after us, maybe has an issue with Bucks, the combination of things wears us down mentally. Hope he's OK, always seemed to love playing for the club and with his team mates.

You were the one who first alerted me to a problem with Marsh with this post - whatever else you said, you stated 'he is not a fan of Bucks'. That stuck with me and does now while the PC among us tread lightly, as they probably did for Beams.

This decision from Marsh is not unexpected. Bucks is already implicated. This may be the day that I position myself with the darker elements inhabiting Collingwood BF. People seem happy to watch the tall timber in our side crumble like teeth soaked in coca cola, but Marsh leaving gives me even less reason to trust the culture and direction of the club. This may be the day on which I cross camp and join those on ignore.
PC as in politically correct? If so, how?
By choosing not to slam a player due to sketchy details about how and why he's struggling?
You now have two posters with two different perspectives. One say Marsh wasn't a fan of Bucks, the other says it's not Bucks. I guess you choose your poison somehow.
As for Beams, people needed to tread lightly because if you doubted his father being the reason for the move, you're calling him a shit bloke. If that's the case, is it also outside the realm of possibility that he contributed to a poor coach/player relationship?

Treloar, Aish, Howe, Mayne, Wells...and that's only in the last 12 months!...Adams, Varcoe....

The main thing really is that Marsh is okay. Personally I think he had a lot of potential and it's a big loss for us, especially as our defence is not that strong. Hopefully we'll arrange a trade and get something for him but, if not, his health is more important than us getting a pick. With all the players wanting to go home in recent years for various reasons clubs should probably be trying to pick local wherever possible.
