we have the most unimaginative “kick in“ set up in the league I reckon.

probably has a bit to do with not having a dominant big man to kick to but also appears to be no system.

josh hunt used to make a fair few blues kicking out but he was also able to hit targets outside 50 from kick ins. the go to move nowadays is a barely 15m chip to the boundary or a kick to a mid with 2 opponents on him.
probably the lack of big man at the kick ins I think with Hawk, Jenkins, Sav, and Stanley all in the side now we should be able to work something out.

don’t share your enthusiasm about Stanley or Jenkins, Stanley is a good mark when he can get a run at it but not really great when the ball is sitting on his head. And I don’t rate Jenkins and didn’t see much from him to change my mind.

esava as a resting ruck could possibly be an option but he is still raw.

we still need someone that can kick long well weighted kicks to targets.

The positives:
- Clarke looked good running off half back...hope that’s his role
- Stewart looked solid for an interrupted pre-season
- Fort looks stronger
- Touhy looks fitter

Negatives:
- Depth looks suspect
- Fears Scott will play a team that’s too tall and lacks attack out of the backline were only increased.
- Was there a single non established player out there that might push into the beat 22?

I thought Kennerley was good. Only played a half and did have 2 or 3 kicks smothered, but he found the pill easily and generally used it well. Only played a half, hope he gets a full game next Marsh game. If he does, and plays well, he deserves a crack at Duncan’s vacant wing position come round one.

I remember a preseason I think 2018 where Tuohy was thumping 60m kick ins to I think Hawkins. They always had Dangerfield time his run to be able to pick up the hand pass or crumb immediately and sprint on. Worked really well for a half or so as I remember it but was really easy set up to counter I think because after working really well a few times it just started rebounding back in.

Point is Hawkins can take that mark and so can Sav, but I think it's a one time per game thing. If they expect it then that ball is coming to ground with oppo small everywhere

Essentially this, but with the caveat that it's not so much 'once per game' as you want to try and have multiple viable choices that you can switch between when bringing the ball in otherwise it will let the opposition set up too reliable a defense.

Something something game theory

I did not see the game but Sparkles must have done reasonably well.
I think that I saw that he had 25 touches.
He was one of very few positives.

I didn't watch it but has anyone here melted over the loss lol?
I think everyone who watched the game melted a bit because the guys played so badly. I wasn't expecting miracles, but there was no real structure or planning in how they played. They were a rabble getting flogged by last year's wooden spooners. A few people really lost it, but once I calmed down a bit I got over it quickly. Footy moves on.

On Parsons. Agree with the best position assessment.

He continued, however, with his attempts at the "deft touch stuff" when body on the line was called for. Its not a good look and not Geelong.

He will play good footy in the twos again but unless we are decimated, he now needs 5 games in a row where he is in the bests and leaves the ground with more than just messy hair.
He's as 'outside' as it gets as a mid for me. That's being as polite as I can. Can actually play a bit apart from that.

I probable melted hardest, mainly because I didn't get great value for the $130 odd dollars I spent getting there and back.Lucky to be 2000 at the game might be a few less next season if that's the venue again.

They should make Coll/Rich (in qld) etc play them in the preseason for a change and let us play in Vic or SA

I've seen some good preseason stuff up here over many years 3 that spring to mind are 1 Steven Kings first game that would have been the at the Gabba,2 the year Campbel Brown came to the Suns,he tried decapitating Joel Selwood and cleaned up Mitch Brown who started on fire deep forward, the other was Motlops first game, every one worth the effort to get to and no idea who won any of them.

I didn't see it either. Sounds like I was fortunate. I hated our kick ins last year. I had hoped they had a more creative approach this year.
Would be hard to have any new creative ideas on anything when the coaching boys club have been relatively the same people shuffled around for years.
Surely common sense evidently says this coaching group cant get the job done and a change in personnel is one of the only things that may bring fresh, creative, dynamic ideas to both the development of players and gamestyle.

I agree a bit, but on the other hand What can they do????
Who back there is creative, thinks & moves quick, has footskills, and is cool under pressure?
Clark? A second year player.
Even if they wanted to change there's no players to get it done.
This is it!!

As I posted before, my heart sank when Scarlo came out and said (paraphrase) that they'd be going with the same game plan, bar some minor tweaks, and would largely be depending on the players to implement it better than last year.

So there's been no internal recognition that the game plan itself is flawed and will not withstand the heat of finals.

And, as we know, there'll be no Plan B, other than moving players into foreign positions on the day.

But, there's light at the end of the tunnel. As they say, 'If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always........ Oh........wait 😕

Then there's this.

We have a team that just isn't as skilled as we'd like to believe. And it is sloooowww...

Some of them are great kicks. But slow and steady.
Guthrie tries sometimes but unfortunately he absolutely should not.
Can see why they tried Constable there, try to get a smart handball out to a runner. But Clark & that's it.
Dunno why they called themselves the "Misfits" should of gone with "2 Trailer Park Girls"

The slow and steady kills us.......

Clark has to stay back, Blitz only at FB, and Constable must only ever be in the guts.

Trouble is we have so few who are genuinely quick by hand, foot and mind....and who can back it with quality ball skills.
