^ Yep.

I have always loved him. Hard at it, tries. Is reliable enough in an exposed position. And has saved as many goals on the goal line than he has cost us in turnovers.

When he was dacked by Tadgh in front of school girls. it cemented my admiration.

That's not correct or fair. Jesse kicked 3 against west coast, 2 against Essendon and 1 against Melbourne. He only failed to score against Carlton and Geelong when it was pissing down.

still, you would have to concede that LRT has made a better fist of playing FF and pinch hitting in the ruck. Jesse was just invisible in some of the games earlier this year, apart from the odd cameo that would produce a freakish goal.

We cried out for someone like him in the GF.
Unfortunately even LRT wouldn't have made a difference. Prime JPK wouldn't have made a difference. Stuart ****ing Maxfield, who was in attendance and must've been horrified at what he was seeing and what we've become, wouldn't have made a difference.

The rot has set in with this team where it is not their job to put their head over the ball, it is not their job to make that desperate lunging tackle, it is not their job to run back defensively, it is not their job to put their body on the line. It is someone else's job.

Perhaps what made LRT so great for me was that he was in a team full of players who he knew would do all of the above, even if he didn't - yet he still did it anyway. That's the buy-in we are missing these days, and it starts at the top, with the coaches actually holding players lacking this buy-in accountable instead of rewarding them.

The great LRT played his career best games in the GF. Whereas too many of our current crop play their worst.

In fact, people say Dustin Martin was the ultimate big-game player. To that I say: tosh! (to quote Grand Uncle Horace). LRT rose to the occasion more than anyone & was probably robbed of a Norm Smith.

Figure out what is was that made LRT so effective in GFs, bottle it & demand that each of our players have a swig next time we make it to a GF.

LRT passed the bottle to Fox. We have to make Fox administer doses to the rest of the group.

Fox’s GF performances seem to get better and better the further we get from the GFs. I am in the minority but I think his performance is quite over rated, and to compare his to those of LRT is a fair bit off imo.

I think it's all relative.

Fox has had 21 and 26 disposals in the two grand finals he's played in, despite averaging 11 and 17 disposals in those seasons. So whilst not being a world-beater in either game, he is stepping up and elevating himself massively in the game that matters most of all.

That's LRT-like, keeping in mind that LRT was no world-beater in either winning grand finals either, with 17 and 14 disposals. (Which is not to say he wasn't still very good.)

Did you watch either? He stood up for 4 quarters in both, where the game was on the line for 4 hot qtrs. If numbers are your thing….go for it, LRT should have a Norm Smith…seriously, not a world beater in either is a very strange comment. He was very influential in both. Fox played in 2 grand finals where the heat was out of the game before qtr time in one and mid way through the 2nd in the other. As numbers are your thing, He racked up nearly 40% of his posssesions v Brisbane in the last qtr. He is nowhere near LRT like.

Numbers are not my thing. I think in Fox's case when he is almost doubling his numbers from every other game then that suggests someone who is stepping up and at least trying to make a difference and impact more than his usual, which is the total opposite of what seems to occur with 90% of his teammates. It is very easy to say that LRT's performances were so superior when he had very good games on days when nearly all of his teammates had very good games too.

I think they're just not a good comparison in the first place, because of those exact circumstances. Fox has never known a great team effort in a GF whilst LRT has never known a poor team effort in a GF.

They are definitely not a good comparison, that we agree.

It must be that none of you are old enough to have watched LRT play... and have just watched the re-runs of that GF!

That this thread exists is simply astounding when you consider those he played with...

In fairness KS, it seems like it was just a thread dedicated after LRT played one particularly good game with the conversation lasting little over a page LOL.

Not like the player threads we have now days, like the Braeden Campbell one, which is now up to nearly 40 pages of praise and positi... oh.
