Mathew Lloyd - Terrified

It's pretty hard to lead brilliantly when you're a forward getting supply from an average midfield. Not to mention the fact that he's come back after missing a year of football all together and still averaging 3 or 4 goals a game.

He'd be kicking a lot more goals if he stayed put leading from the goal square instead of pushing up the ground.

That is completely reasonable if we were looking at goals kicked or something but surely you would be willing to look at the real reason so many have jumped on this thread.

Leadership.

Lloyd has shown none, and in fact has demoralised his side in my opinion with his gutless acts and total inability to tackle, shepherd, inspire or lead this team in any way.

Matthew Lloyd career highlights:

Bigfooty career highlights:

ok ill bite.

2001 international rules series - was tackling allowed?

4th youngest player to kick 800 goals - why do people big note these sort of stats? the 3rd, 2nd, and youngest are obviously better.

Like I said in my last post, he's an average leader at best on the field but has games from time to time when he leads by good example. Off the field he's a great leader.

Essendon need him at FF, not pushing up the ground so often and even playing in defense.

Basically I'm agreeing with you, but the title of this thread is laughable.

Terrified? Had his hamstring ripped off the bone, yet couldn't wait to get back out and play. Doesn't seem like he's terrified to me... Mal Michael himself wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of his bumps.

What about the leadership he showed in the win in Adelaide, the win against Freo, West Coast? Sydney last year...

Stats wise he's almost had as good a season as Pavlich who is regarded as a being in AA form.

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?tid1=9&pid1=38&tid2=6&pid2=352

He's averaged the same amount of goals, more tackles and slightly less possies.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good troll though. :thumbsu:

ps. Shouldn't this thread be in Bay 13 or do most Bomber related threads remain on the main board?

And that is completely fair enough too, but all with a powerful side around him. Look at him now?

Says a lot about the heroics of Crawford and West who have brilliantly lead struggling clubs.
i have always said that about lloyd.
he had a powerful side to ffed him the ball, they all said how good he was.
i always said let him play in an ordinary side, the truth of the matter is, what has he done since he won his last coleman medal?
how many centuries has he kicked in his 12 season career?
2 in 2 grand final years
dunstall, plugger and ablett did so in average years:thumbsu:

whats funny bout those achievements is easy.
the dons were contesting grand finals, top of the ladder those years he won those awards.
finals played a big part in those awards, what about now, the ifs and buts if he just played more in the goal square, well we dont know that for sure.
the facts are he never really suffered any kind of injuries, till last season, cant have his cake and eat it too.
how many times did dunstall and plugger get rubbed out or seriously injured?
lloyds 29 has over 225 games to his name, had been blessed early in his footy career, so now gotta take the good with the bad.
if he is claimed to be soft, thers obviously a reason

That's what I love about BigFooty. About 2 years my frustration peaks about a topic it becomes big news...lol

Lloyd is a homo and relished playing in a powerful tough side like Essendon as he could run around like a gutless sniper.

Now that the club is weak and on it's knees he can't handle it. I was sitting in the reserved seating on level two behind the city end goals and had a close up view of his antics for two quarters on the weekend. Anyone who sat there might have heard my comments like.

"Why don't you pull your shorts up a bit higher Lloyd" ... It seemed to catch on and everyone was joining in. It was pretty funny as even the Scum supporters around were laughing a bit.
im rapt this thread has taken place.
as a carlton supporter i always gad to endure my bomber mates talk about lloyd and how much of a champion he is.
i always told them the wheels will turn and how will that bitch fare up in a ordinary footy side.
now i got my answer, and it shows that he is crap, if hawk fans can see it, then i cant be wrong.
and im not one to talk because the blues are a rabble, but we are here to discuss lloyd, so lets keep it at that.
finally, before the dons get up and make any kind of remarks to this post, ask urselves when was lloyds last century, last coleman medal, last all australian.

peter1979, im guessing you could find all those stats about lloyd in state library archives
dude im backing ur claims as to him (lloyd being soft)
i know very well when those awards were achieved, it is after all posted above this page for all to see.
im in other words pointing out the obvious, he hasnt done much since the dons were contesting finals.
again im being sarcastic:rolleyes:

Quality thread.

Mathew Lloyd could go down as one the least respected football champions of all time. His record speaks for itself. So too, sadly, do his cowardice and cheating.

Bud, we may be you bitches over the last 5 minutes but boy, your poo brown and gold fairies have been our bitches nigh on a century.

Played 147
Ess Wins - 92
Dorks Wins - 55
Ess Win % - 62.59

An embarassment of a club with a heritage of failure other than one short burst.

When you have a record that stands the test of time then fell free to have a go. Until then - go away.

Poo Brown and gold fairies? Is that the best you can come up with, your starting so sound like that joffa, your lame insults suck. TRY AGAIN

Got Tissue? still abit sour over the weekend watching your team Suck?

I referred to him as scuba the other day (as u all know ie diver) and my bomber supporting wife said "what?", "I said scuba, as in diver", "öh" she said, "I thought you said scooby, as in scooby doo, because he looks like scooby doo!" She said it! Not me!
Now I cant get the vision of scooby doo diving out of my head. LOL!!!!

LOL... :D:D:D

I am an avid Bomber hater as most users know but to suggest that Lloyd is terrified or soft is just ridiculous. You play the elite level as long as Lloyd has and you are not soft. His mental application, training and the way he hits the ball suggest he is not soft. Any bloke who crosses the line and plays ten or so years at the elite level is as hard as nails. I would happily have had him playing out of the Magpie goal square. I would be interested to see how many of the blokes that are bagging him have crossed the white line as many times as Lloyd at the top level. I know I haven't, I would love to be half as good a footballer as Lloyd.

well said

Agree- He did the same thing last week against Adelaide. Sheedy should have tore strips of him for it.

LOL... Mate Sheedy taught them how to do it. Its been going on with your mob for years. I have heard many past EFC players comment on how at Essendon it was considered OK to encourage the umpire to pay free kicks....
LOL... Concentrate on playing the game

Has there ever been a softer captain?

Sheedy has lost his marbles - appointing the diving squib captain of a once proud club.

Lloyd was quite simply terrified out there today, especially of Campbell Brown, and his timidity mirrored that of his teammates. Hid from the front and set the example for his teammates, as Hawthorn's dominance of Essendon continues...

huh ?

Why would anyone be "scared" of Campbell Brown ?...do u blokes think he's some sort of enforcer or something like that ?

No fan of Lloyd's penchant for going the free kick but its a bit stoopid to say he'd be "scared" of a bloke like Brown. Who would.

He held us afloat in 97/98. We were pretty ordinary then.

So Sheedy taught or enforced all his players in his 27 year tenure to "Dive" or lay it on a little thick? Have a spell...

Care to reinforce your argument by naming the past EFC players?
