Roast Matt Hass is garbage and the Crows fitness is below AFL standard

Deep into the last quarter, Keays ran past 3 of his own teammates including Smith to put in a 2nd and then a 3rd effort. Literally putting pressure on 3 North opponents by himself while his teammates were nowhere to be seen. That one piece of play encapsulated everything that is wrong with our fitness program.

He's a good egg is Keays. Wish we had more with his endeavour.

We don't have a single footy dept employee who would get an equivalent job at another club. Ogilvie the only possible exceptions. I expect Burton still set up our program when head of footy. This guy, like all others, operating beyond their level of expertise. Whole dept is full of L platers or proven failures.
Is that the same ogilvie that drafted our current list

Him and Reid wouldn't get a gig at the hackham hawks looking at our list

I remember that. Incredibly telling moment. One was in the game, the others just observing.

Hardly surprising. Rode in on the coattails of Burton and landed himself a plum, highly sort after job despite lacking the broad experiences and skills of his relative counterparts at 17 other clubs.

Its probably fair to say you can only sack so many high ranking employees at once though...

The hope would be that the plan was to make the bare minimum changes at the end of last year, which was essentially bring Nicks and Kelly in and allow them to systematically work through the department and make changes in a more orderly fashion. That would be the hope...

Look after him. He is a good kid and really well liked by Brisbane fans - happy for him to get his chance. He won’t be a superstar but he will give 100% of himself every single game. Plenty of us are cheering him on each time he plays.

Ben always took his fitness pretty seriously even before being drafted, so I think he holds himself to a pretty high standard personally.

We are warming to him, so many times watch him run past teammates to make repeated contest and pressure

Richie Douglas in a good fitness program now at the Redlegs...

35 disposals 8 clearances 11 i50's 3 goals

Irrelevant. Douglas was posting big numbers in the SANFL when he was playing last year under our current fitness boss.

Hass should have been removed after the 2018 season. It doesnt help that the players apparently like him and decided to keep him around even after the review.

I remember reading this article from just after the bye last and being concerned:

We all know how far we've fallen since then. Not only is our ability to cover the ground gone but there has been no physical development in nearly all of our players in the last two years. We've watched opposition players just waltz out of tackles, use their body to out mark our players and get separation in contested situations. These aren't just young players either, our senior 'experienced' players are just as guilty.
That has to be damming of our fitness program, 18th for total distance, 17th for distance at High speed and 18th for total sprints. And those players are buggered when they come off. we are by far the most unfit side in the AFL.

The club used to pride itself on it's fitness and it fitness programs. There was a time when the clubs preseasons were often described as the most brutal in the competition.

So wtf happened
Roo got involved in football decisions and appointed his mates.

Can anyone name a single appointment that Roo has been involved in that has gone well?

It was evident that our players didn’t cope to well from the COVID-19 enforced break. Our players came back and looked like they were carrying a bit of weight in round 2. They couldn’t run and they couldn’t spread, they had no space and everything was done under extreme pressure.

At the end of the season it looks like we’ll need an even bigger clean out than last year, and that includes Hass. Hass is not up to it and is a cheap hire as well as Burton’s mate. That’s the problem with this club it’s a business, not a footy club. Every decision is based on improving the bottom line, and not improving the football department and on field performance.

I'd like him too if I was a player and he wasn't making us do much fitness work.

Have you been watching our games? Fitness is clearly an issue.

I've been watching our games, and the sport, for decades. Fitness is towards the bottom end of our issues. Teams look slow/lethargic onfield, but their actual fitness levels - as in, their training and data etc. - are okay. The desire to run and the strategy of where/when to run, is different from their ability to run.

It's not "fitness".

Hopefully that starts to rub off on a few of our other mids soon enough

Would have a couple of wins by now if even only a few of the other senior players shared the same endeavour.

exactly. Endeavour vs fitness

nicks is our endeavour coach, and looks right up there with hass at this stage.
