Getting in early here, but his hard work and performances this pre season are the best I have ever seen from one of our youngsters in a good 5 years, his kicking is improving out of sight, he is extremely fit, he has bulked up massively, added a yard of pace, learnt how to lay a tackle, got aggressive, the only thing that hasnt improved is his awful haircut. If he was in any other of the 15 teams Id say he would play all 22 games starting on a wing for all of them and get in the top 10 best and fairest. However he has alot of competition in our midfield

Id like to see Woosha role the dice and play Rosa on the wing all season, play Embley as a full time forward and have Braun and Nicoski swap around on the other wing. Best way to improve our forward line IMO is to throw our hard to match up on midfielders Embley and Cuzz and leave them there permanetely.

Im very excited to see how he turns out, hes very unique no player really like him running around in the AFL, hes gonna tear teams apart with his fitness and hardness at the ball in 2-3 years time, who knows if given the chance maybe even sooner.

Go Rosa :thumbsu: :p

I watched his game against the dogs last year

absolutley pathetic tackling

skinny as a rake

disposal was not the least bit damaging

lets hope that he can pull 8 - 10 games this year and have a bit of an impact

NAB cup in just 2 weeks

I have my ticket :D

My internet sarcasm detectors aren't as sharp at this hour of the night, but if you are indeed being serious, I have to say I think Rosa is a below average dime of a dozen midfielder from what I've seen of him at least.

Average pace, average disposal, skinny as a bitch, not hard enough but gets a bit of the footy in the WAFL. Let's hope he can improve a fair bit because from my first impressions of him I'd guess he is a younger Chad Fletcher and nothing more.

Hope he can prove me wrong.

People presume him as being weak just cos in general he is skinny and his main weapon is his fitness, like Cousins he uses his strengths very well, Rosa can be tough when he needs to be but he is smart in the way he plays to his strengths rather then playing to his weakness just to prove a point.

Rosa kicking is definetly improving, he always had a huge problem with dropping the ball from too high on to his foot and it tended to result in a odd floater, he didnt really adjust his kicking to his increased height and recently with full concentration and help from experts his kicking is very good, better then the likes of Kerr and Judd thats for sure. Tackling still isnt the best it could be but the bloke is a ball magnet so tackling isnt really gonna be important to his game, not many wingers are good tacklers anyway.

Rosa is gonna be a last qtr specialist, runs out a game extremely well, kind of bloke who will pick up half his possessions in the last 30 mins of a game cos by then his opponent is dead on his feet.

Id bet on him playing more then ten games next year thats for sure, lets just hope he plays to his potential in the NAB cup and show Woosh wat hes got

Did some of you even read Embers' post?

He was talking about the hard work Rosa's put in and the improvements he's made and you counter with oh, he looked average last year. He got limited game time in games where we got beaten, hardly the best way to get insight on a kid in his first 2 games. He looked impressive in the scratch match on Friday and even he continue that form throughout the preseason, it's possible he could end up in the team in round 1.

Hes put on about 8kg's. Some of you guys are pretty harsh on this kid, he wont be a star but he will be a good afl player.

In terms of performances I'd say Judd's was the best from a youngster in the past 5 years. I can't argue with the 'hard work' aspect though because I didn't really see Judd or anyone at pre-season training pre 2004.

Not a chance in hell. I hate to knock the guy, I think he'll be an alright player, if not more, in the future but he wouldn't get a top 10 B&F anywhere next season. He's just not ready.

Not ready for that IMO.

Rosa will play this year i agree they should give him a go off the wing you say he cant tackle so why not put him on a wing and let him run free.
He has built himself up and from the contacts over in the west tolf me he is super fit

GIVE HIM A RUN COACHING STAFF!!!!

Pretty big props.

I think you're getting a little carried away. I'd be happy if Rosa played 9-10 games and managed to contribute in each.

im gonna have to agree with embers Rosa has the ability to run all day fittness freak!!!! And also a star on the field dont you worry about the skinny little country boy he will be a star sooner rather than later.

Id say he has put on roughly 10kg possibly even more, his kicking is now probably one of the better in our team, he can take a grab, run all day and night, really going in hard at the ball recently, at the intra club match he was right in the bottom of alot of packs, moreso then any other bloke out there. He laid quite a few tackles too. For me I see the perfectly rounded player with a major strength and no glaring weakness.

If we want to win a premiership we gotta take a few risks, Sydney did by playing Lewis Roberts Thompson at CHB all year, if we can play Rosa on the wing all year it will release Embley up forward along with Cousins itd be very hard for alot of teams to match up on.

I think he will take the NAB Cup by storm, Woosha has already lined him up to start which is good to hear, I dont think im really getting carried away, ive seen the transformation, the guys is in his 2nd year and already he is fitter then Cousins, and probably the fittest player in the AFL.

Can you bet on the Rising star award, if so ill slap 50 on him.

Am I the only one who can see how crazy this is? I remember after Butlers second pre-season, a lot of people said he'd end up like Simon Black. Does anyone still agree with that?

When did Butler put on 10kg and become the fittest player in the AFL??

His style is very similar to Simon Black. Unfortunatley, I dont think Sam has been able to find a niche in the midfield where he belongs. There simply isnt space for him to play in the middle and as a result 50min per game off the bench makes it very hard to have an impact especially with the confidence low and having a fear of being dropped on the slightest indiscretion.

What TOA said about Butler stands, even though I wasn't aware of it. Wasn't it originally 8kg you said Rosa put on though?

Either way, you're over rating Matt chronically; Saying that he could finish top 10 in any clubs B&F bar ours is just disrespectful. And saying he's the fittest player in the AFL is just plain hard to believe, regardless of his 3km time trials. I'd assume that it's a lot harder to run for so long and so quick when you're taking hits, being held and switching between sprinting, jogging and walking constantly.

In the end, I suppose it's all your opinion, but I disagree with it to a large extent. From what I've seen at the training sessions I've been to and the first intraclub match all this hype is very much over the top.

Embers, Matt isnt even the fittest bloke at the club, how could he be the fittest in the AFL. Matt is a 2nd year player, played well in the intraclub but please dont put more pressure on the kid by talking him up after he has only played 3 games in his life

in his first year matt was drawing with the best at the club, cousins and braun, in all the long distance training they do. this year hes beating them.

i dont know about the entire AFL but for a 19 year old in his second year he seems to have a claim on being the fittest at WC. hes got a ways to go to get the rest of his game up to scratch but he seems to have the work ethic for it, hopefully hes got the ability too.

I doubt he is reading this thread, and struggling with the pressure Embers' is putting on him.

Hes a second year player who has only played 3 AFL games. I've seen him play and i dont think he is good enough to get a top 18 at another clus's best and fairest.

There is no way he is good enough to finish top 10 in the b + f, pleanty of good players dont make the top10 of their sides best and fairest just have a look at last years rankings.

In terms of the fittest at the club, I think he would go close. He has won the beep test both times the club has conducted it and also won the run up jacobs ladder (where they did 2 laps). In terms of match fitness, he still wouldnt be near the standard of Judd or Cousins. Playing at the pace of the AFL is alot different to a running race.

I think Matt is a good kid and I hear great things about his attitude and work ethic, in fact I was hearing those things within months of him arriving at the club late last year. He wont be a special player, he has potential to be a handy AFL type with around the profile of someone like Braun. Its good to hear he has added some weight because that was on of the major question marks over him becoming an AFL player. Hopefully the added weight has given him some more power to hold the tackles and get more spring for his run and jump. FWIW, he is ahead of Morton and Le Cras in my book.

:D I'd also like to congratulate Matt Rosa because he's just so cool:) I'd love it if he played in the NAB cup because I'm actually going YAY!!! And hopefully he'll play around 9-10 games this year, so I can hopefully go to another of his games!!!:) :D ROCK ON MATT ROSA!!!!:D
