Big numbers, tiny cost to our peak footballing performance. Losing those players does not explain how we went from what Pyke left to what Nix delivered. Plus, the removal of the toxic employees should have seen a spike in performance, so somehow not only didn't we spike, we went backwards at a rate of knots.

2019

Eddie Betts (trd) - COOKED
Richard Douglas (del) - COOKED
Hugh Greenwood (trd) - Fringe mid that had played SANFL that year.
Sam Jacobs (trd) - COOKED
Josh Jenkins (trd) - Serviceable, but had been dropped during the year and went on to play 2 further games
Alex Keath (trd) - 3rd choice KPD that had played SANFL that year
Andy Otten (ret) - COOKED

2020

Rory Atkins (FA) - Very average player. Had been dropped and played SANFL that year.
Brad Crouch (FA) - Kicked out for a crap kick due to getting caught with cocaine
Kyle Hartigan (trd) - Serviceable still, went on to play ok for a year or so at Hawks
Riley Knight (del) - Barely returned to fringe quality following 2016
Yeah, most of those players were done. Problem is our poor recruiting meant there wasn't the young talent to replace them with. We'd spent our our 2016 first round pick on Gallucci, 2017 (2 of them) on Bryce Gibbs, 2018 on Jones (plus McHenry), 2019 on McAsey.. So basically 6 first round picks from the previous 4 years were wasted.

Clearing out the older players should have opened up a heap of opportunities for young talent, but we didn't have the young talent.

You'd think the bye week would have been a good time to do it, gives a week for the dust to settle and everybody can reset themselves for the 2nd half of the year.

I really don't think we can afford to wait until next year to move him on. The rate things are going down the road there, Port may well be in the market for a new coach, too. It's hard enough to convince anybody good to move over here. If there is somebody good willing to come over here for a senior coaching gig, we still might not land them if they 2 options here to choose from.
No chance it is happening yet. I still think the best we could hope for is the end of the season.

The record is the record, continually excusing that leads to where we find ourselves. Hart is still in the industry, Mattner was well respected, but we didn’t value him. Nix took over a 10 win team with a large core of experienced players. He drove them to a spoon. If it was a blip, you could look at reasons as to why, but if it is more norm than isolated incident, then you don’t.
From what I've heard, our fitness was disgraceful as there was no drive or accountability to train or stay fit during the covid break. That plus not being able to train together with a new game plan meant we were just a rabble, it took 13 games to reach adequate levels again

Haha, no they won't, their season is in true freefall and they've never handled pressure games well under Ken
You assume we will bring pressure
While it would be fun to beat them, a 15 goal loss might be the final straw and get Nicks sacked.

Not only that but you each and every year turnover one’s list by the draft and trading.

And I wonder who should be accountable for that? The coach?

I think a bunch of players admitted after the fact that they thought the season was gonna get cancelled, so didn't stay in the shape they needed to throughout the shutdown period.
