Is there a scenario where Nicks doesn't keep his job this year?

We are likely going to be underdogs in 7 of our last 9 games. Really the games against St.Kilda (H) and Hawthorn (H) will we start as the favourite.

If results go like expected - we finish the season 6 wins from 23 matches.

Surely a coach can't survive 3 wins, 7 wins, 8 wins, 11 wins, 6 wins.

Assuming we lose to GWS and Bris away - If we then lose that St Kilda game at home the jungle drums will be so loud club will have to do something IMO. We would be 4.5 wins after round 18..... :embarrassedv1:

reckon those 2 are losses, lose to Saint Kilda and that will be big especially as we will have players back and they can’t use injuries as an excuse. Reckon we win that though

No, there is no football performance scenario that sees nix sacked this year.

lol, that’s exactly what I’ve been saying “great bloke” they like him and no one will pot him, like Hinkley. You know what was missing? “He’s a good coach”
Just ignoring Nicks for the moment, it's still worrying that he's saying all the same things that were said pre the external review and shows that the board and upper management insulating themselves from that review allowed a number of the same problems to remain.

I suspect the only thing that would see Nicks sacked is losing the Showdown by 10+ goals

On current form we wouldn’t start as favourites against the Hawks and Saints would be evens at best.

And then he goes and spoils it all by saying something stupid like Nicks is a superstar.

Even Waynus wouldn't describe him in such a positive manner. To be honest, if Roo, Olsen and most of the board went and then Silvers, Kelly, Burns, VB & Ogilvie along with them, I'd be comfortable with Nix coaching into next year. My view hasn't changed and that's that he's too risk averse and aligned to our favoured Neil era pitfall of experience + continuity + working harderer = success. I can't see him ever rebuilding a list to genuinely compete for 3-4 years among the top 4. Or valuing/trusting talent enough when the whips are cracking and pressure/intensity is at its peak.

There's no doubt he's a problem, but he's not the biggest problem that we have. He's a symptom. And if appropriate changes are made at board and executive level, Nicks will either succeed or be shown the door. And I'm fairly happy with a couple more years down the bottom to get the talent into our midfield that we require.

One thing we know about Nix is that he gets people on side, even those that have publicly sprayed his coaching. He did it with Blight and King. And not even covertly, both stated plainly that after having a coffee with him they reckon he's on the right track. It's no different to Trigg's strategy of bringing Caro into the fold, which Fagan did as well after Trigg got moved on and Caro said the club 'was in disarray and Trigg a good operator'. Feed her some inside scraps and pay for good copy. Nix has just deployed similar strategy to get his detractors onside.

And as I said in the other thread, he’s got shit for brains, I want him no where near the club.

He was a clueless idiot when he was in the media.

I reckon he embodied what was wrong with the club anyway. I spoke to him at Lasseters Caz whilst playing blackjack one night. We'd played a trial game against Essendon I reckon. We were talking about players and I mentioned someone who had been on the list a couple of years and was looking exciting and his response was, "I don't know, I don't really know or speak to any of the younger players".

Anthony Hudson asked him about the Crows at the moment. He said he was ex-communicated from the club and doesn't have anything to do with them. It was based on criticisms he's had for the last decade about the club. Those people are still there and they don't like him, basically.

Robbo was gobsmacked. He then said that he rates Nicks, but the club's issues run way deeper and he reckons Nicks will be the fall guy.

He was a good player in his prime but I've always associated McDermott with his his exit from the club and how it was such a good list management decision. Having said that, if he wants to call out club admin in a public way, I'll get him a soap box to stand on.

OK ...I confess ....I'm Malcolm Blight

Gee, he talks sense .....remember, as supporters, nearly all teams are going to lose 40% of the time .....so if you love the game, embrace the journey ....there's always a positive that brings a smile to your face

MALCOLM BLIGHT

CROWS COACH 1997-99
“It’s a mental fight every week when you lose, particularly when you get multiple losses over multiple years. It eats away at you.

Matthew Nicks started from a very low base and you can’t imagine some of the courage that takes. He’ll still get more and more resilient. He’s still a young coach.

As you try to climb up the ladder, you need a lot of things to go right. Port Adelaide’s won four games by a total of 20 points and they have eight wins. The Crows have lost four games and drawn one with a total of 21 points. So they’re a kick or two away from being around eight wins.

Collingwood can get away with injuries because they’ve been up the top for six of the last seven years. But (Taylor) Walker and (Izak) Rankine are missing and they’re A-graders. Then you’ve got (Wayne) Milera, (Nick) Murray, (Riley) Thilthorpe, plus all the others who have been out. So it’s been a bit unsettled.

Those close losses drastically hurt you at the end of the year. Getting that lucky bounce of the ball, having a great set up, a great system. But every time I look at those close games, I can show 20 other things 15 minutes before all that happened, where a touch of luck went the other way too.

What they’ve got to do now is hang tough and hopefully the worm turns. You’ve got to front up with hope and some system. I’d do something a bit different to try to spark it up and you might just get something.

There is a chance to play one or two newbies … but if your form is terrible in the SANFL, sorry, you’re not getting a game just because you haven’t played yet.”

I would have thought that a Coach wouldn't survive 3 wins, 7 wins, 8 wins, 11 wins, 4-9-1 to now, but here we are.

100%, those issues are relevant

So rounds 1-4? Losing to Richmond with injuries?

But you still haven’t given the reasons why Nocks is a good coach.
