Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach (Part 2) - Full Support of the Board

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

Hang in there. If it doesn’t work out, pay him out and move on. With how “rubbery” coaching contracts seem to be now, it isn’t out of the realms that a change can be made quickly.

Time for Matthew to deliver!

Not quite as bad as us resigning Hinkley but you're getting there.
You reckon.

We are a club who hasnt played in finals in 6 years.

Crows
2018 - 12 Wins
2019 - 10 Wins
2020 - 3 Wins
2021 - 7 Wins
2022 - 8 Wins
2023 - 11 Wins

In that time Port
2018 - 12 Wins
2019 - 11 Wins
2020 - 14 Wins 9minor Premiers when we were wood spoon
2021 - 17 Wins
2022 - 10 Wins
2023 - 17 Wins

Id kill to have ports win loss record over ours in tha time

I know you have strong emotional ties to Olsen, but at the end of the day I just want the best candidates possible at the club and if you think that the AFC Board have been exemplary in their handling of Thebarton Oval thus far then I guess we can just agree to disagree.
I'm old enough to remember when Olsen's political connections would mean that Adelaide wouldn't be railroaded into the "Inferior" Thebarton Oval option in the first place.

**** the Power.

No grand final appearance for 17 years, we need to be aiming higher than what they have delivered.

We re-signed Cornes in 1993 then sacked him 12 months later. contracts mean nothing .

Re-signed Sando after 2013 (until end of 2016) and sacked after 2014.

Re-signed Pyke after 2017 (until end of 2021) and he walked after 2019 (likely would have been sacked per the review if he didn't see the writing on the wall).

Good to see we learnt our lesson

I have strong emotional ties to Olsen? That’s hilarious. Im a realist. We tried for North Adelaide and were knocked back. We tried for Brompton and were knocked back. Thebarton presented itself as a good opportunity and given the lack of other viable options, I’m yet to hear you suggest one, we went for it.

As all things in Adelaide however it gets stuck in council/State government bullshit and they are so scared of losing votes they listen to a bunch of whingers. It’s why nothing gets done in Adelaide and it’s not new for the Crows.

We are not running another community consultation, the State Government are. The fact you’re pinning it on Olsen just shows you’re the one letting your political biases cloud your judgement. “I’m sick of excuses, I want results” That sounds like someone devoid of development reality of trying to get stuff done in Adelaide.

As for Nicks, I don’t agree with his re-signing at all and that is a cross for Olsen and the club. But Thebarton delays and comprises can’t be pinned on them. Blame the council and your Labor government.

Just on North Adelaide - great to see all the construction and scaffolding now underway.

What could have been.

What would be the positives in this

Anyone!

Someone try!
A positive would be that we don't end up with the circus that Port had last year with the Hinlkey re-signing. This gets it out the way now so there is not constant speculation about it all year.

In saying that, I still think this is too early, I would have preferred to wait a little longer. If we start the year badly you would then put talks on hold until the end of the year.

The natives will become more restless if it’s 1-4

Serious question

Has any club had a coach in a similar position, last year of the contract and said “Nope we’re going to hold your feet to the fire and not extend until we see how we’re going later in the year”?

Anyone?

If the club has another mediocre year, we absolutely have to sack him.
We cannot afford to waste another 2 years right when we should be hitting our straps.

Unfortunately this all but guarantees he will be coaching next year regardless of results this year
