Same issue as Port.

Any assistant coach has to be rejected by 10 Victorian clubs.

WCE and Freo have a lot of assistants who lived in WA before coaching those clubs. The rest churned out of Vic clubs. Matthew Knights at WCE.....

Happens in other industries as well. Hard to get people to live here who have not lived here.

Don't you live in Melbourne? Would you move to Adelaide for a job?

Burgess on good coin as well.

The head coach of Collingwood was born in South Australia and the head coach of GWS played his entire career in SA.

There's talent out there, it's just not at our club.

Also for me personally I live out in the country, and having lived in Melbourne for 5 years it would not be high on my list of places to live unless I was paid obscene money

And both would rather live in Melbourne.

I know we tried to get Ben Rutten home after Essendon sacked him.

He preferred to stay in Melbourne, go back to Richmond on less money than we offered him.

His family set up there.

Look at WCE/Freo/Port assistant coaches. The common theme is as I stated. Lived (born in) in the State beforehand or churned out of the Victorian assistant coaching carousel.

So, would you live in Adelaide aka West Horsham? Or would it only take a big bundle of cash to get you here?

Nicks is trying to make Finals this year and revert to the senior players like Pyke did in 2018/19 when clearly they were cooked or in very poor form after the CM debacle and we all know how that ended.

and the way tim silvers was so confident in nicks. He's so far up his own ass. A competent ceo would wait.
I would say it was a board decision above Silvers. I presume his extension happened 3months ago and they were squabbling over terms. I hope to hell we put escape clauses in the deal as he is getting sacked this year.

I reckon if we didn't have that camp pyke would still be coach. We may have won a premiership too.

I don't blame him for playing Crouch/Dawson/Laird midfield. Rachele hasn't looked up to it as a midfielder this preseason and Pedlar looks a mile off. We need Rankine forward more than midfield. At least Nicks is trying him in spurts.

Berry struggled tonight. I think its possible he comes good but he has a lot of work to do on fundamentals which is a concern but potentially fixable. At the same time he doesn't compliment this midfield mix.

I would give Rankine 20-30% CBA and while I'd like to see Berry get a run first, its hard given the type of mid he is. Its time to throw Soligo in there for a bit.

I'd make Crouch no.1 for CBAs and rotate Dawson on a wing. He dominated there at Sydney and he can still be fed the ball. Maybe drop Dawsons CBAs by 20%.Laird can come off HF a bit more.

Why would you put so much focus on preseason games? Look at Hinge's form......

I'll tell you in 3 weeks time and I've never said he can't coach (unlike you) but if he can't get the players "clicking" again with his reappointment......
Well maybe you should have. Your one thing you claimed you were right is Nicks could coach. You’re hanging your hat on that. 0-2 with an away game to Freo….

The slug might need to retreat.

I wonder how management would be feeling? Re-sign the guy early. Keep our recruiters and list managers on.

0-2 with 2 poor losses.

Look at our fixture.

Any of these ****heads think maybe they should have waited?

You get what you deserve.

If he can't coach then we wouldn't have just missed out on the 8 last year. But maybe he just "fluked" his way to that position when footy experts has seen a distinctive game plan. Even tonight when he switched up the game plan to chip through Geelong's zone in the 4th quarter which ended up in a goal but then somehow reverted back to bombing the ball and Geelong players getting intercepts to somehow prove a point he can win playing how he wants. He seems very stubborn.

I don’t think it’s even a case of not wanting move here for lifestyle reasons, it’s simply easier to make sideways moves in a 10 team state.
It gives Victoria a massive advantage.

If you’re an assistant coach in vic who wants to be a head coach long term, why would you want to move your family interstate for a senior assistant gig and then move them again a few years later for the senior role.

Why not just move to another vic club in the short term?

Matthew Nicks is Homer Simpson and we're all Frank Grimes.

"Hi I'm a worthless employee just like Matthew Nicks, give me a promotion"

Just isn't making the tough calls now, fed up of all the feel good bullshit. Murphy isn;t up to it, Smith isn't up to it anymore - just **** them off for christs sakes and get some half decent footballers in.

It wouldn't surprise me if Nicks is gone by the end of the year and the club deserves to be bashed around the head for this idiotic decision.

So your credentials for a guys coaching ability is almost making the 8….lucky we had Tex in career best form might have been a more accurate assessment…

Maybe if he didn’t make some poor decisions during the year we would have made the 8….

I guess someone who can't coach (like you) can also take an AFL side close to making the 8 where Walker is kicking the ball with fast ball movement to himself to kick the goal.

“Close”

Funny thing is I’m just some bloke posting on a footy forum and yet I can pick out issues with his selections and game plan that our coach can’t.

Then there’s slugs who troll the board and think backing in the coach makes them smart.

Send them your resume. Stubborn and can't coach are too separate opinion ;)
