How good was that bump on Johnson running back with the flight, taking him out, getting straight back up and then snapping that goal. Against the run of play when the doggies were really coming HARD at us. That was the goal that finished the doggies off. Maxi is born to play finals and proved it tonight.

Johnson deserved a free kick for it as Rooke didn't have eyes on the ball.....but we will take it
credit to rooke for making a contest, and even more so to get straight back up and after the footy. too many times players stay down but he is a class act rooke. he can only do his best and the rest is up to the umpires, you win some you lose some. credit to rooke for making the most of his opportunities.

Sometimes you just want players to make a contest. Tonight, a few times I cursed "keep your feet Stokes" or "make a contest Johnno".
You just never have that concern with Max.
Was probably a free kick but I wouldn't have been unhappy if it was paid that way. The act itself was symbolic.

But lets be honest, that was a free kick to Johnno, but who gives a f$%k, it evens up all the dodgy holding the ball free kicks against us with the mosty obvious bulls$%t one being SJ's one where he crumbed the ball in the goal square and got tacked at the same time. Evens up in the end.
How many times did Max cop a big hit but got straight back up and kept chasing..........he's going to create havoc next week

Unfortunately it was a significant non-decision but you're right...Rooke was great all night, as was Varcoe.
It was a free kick but would have made little difference; that put us on fire. I just love how Johnson was just smashed and looked as if he could barely move, while Rooke just bounded to his feet and kicked the goal. thats why he is there, to stand up when times are tough.

on the replay it looked like he didn't have eyes for the ball but it would have been impossible to see that in real time.
the umpires gave rooke the benefit of doubt as he goes back with the flight of the ball so often only having eyes for the ball.
that play had me jumping out of my seat, rooke is such a physical player and you can be sure he will give you a contest.

At the time, I expected a free to be paid.
But as I've said elsewhere, Rooke had to go and go hard and he didn't let anyone down by doing what he did.
The important point you accept, is that it had no bearing on the result.
