McCarthy, shulz, bennel, Jetta or carslile? Who is our priority?

McCarthy reminds me alot of Aaron Black, a good lead and equally good kick, but doesn't seem to have the polish yet but will attract big dollars on potential. North got the raw end of paying overs for a home sick forward crueled by some injury but a big form slump too. I think there is more value in Schulz for 2-3 seasons than McCarthy in the long term, i just think he won't get to the heights needed to be a genuinely good reliable forward.

Out of all the names listed in the thread topic, I would put the hard earned on securing Bennel, a Mandurah boy whose issues could be resolved coming home and his silky speed, good ball use would be like having another Stephen Hill (or a Danyle Pearce with a good leg). He would add the polish in our mid field and with another speedster running rampant, our midfield would be untaggable, quick transitions would make our forward line alot more potent, plus he has a 60m leg on him too so a shot on the run from 50 out is no problems there.

How old is Schulz? About thirty? I love the way he runs at the goals for his set shots. Could be a handy replacement for the Pav who will surely retire after winning the 2015 premiership in his 336th and final game

Also, Bennell.

wouldn't have thought so sproketman

Pure coincidence then that your only followers are dadda and walks82 and that I've never seen any of you three before today and you're coincidentally choosing the same thread to boost your posts counts. It's cool, I believe in fantastic coincidences.

Turned 30 in April this year. Although to some he may as well be using a zimmer frame to get around I'd think we'd get a good two years at least out of him. 44 goals from 20 games this year despite Port's woes, would be our highest goal kicker.

Would love to get McCarthy, may not be a key forward but he looks class and will only get better. Is exactly the sort of player we need. Of course it would be great to get a bigger key forward too, not sure if Schultz is the answer but wouldn't be against it.

Even just to cover our you kpp coming through. Apeness may be a while off.

Bennell for me. He has had his troubles, but I think his last indiscretion is on the lower end of the scale of things. Hutchy was saying on Footy Classified that a 3rd rounder should do it.

Might not be a true key forward but his speed and agility make him a nightmare matchup. Ideally would be taking the second or third tall defender but I'd still back him to bring it to ground at a minimum against the best key defenders. Would love this guy at Freo, even moreso now that SA has argued against him :p

Jeez I'd give them our second rounder just to be sure!

And 3rd for ports Shultz

Our first for McCarthy and Clarke

Great off season!

Don't forget we are getting Hooker and Colyer as well. It would be hilarious if the only player we got this off-season was Schulz. Meanwhile, WCE get Jetta, Bennell and Hogan.

Oh my goodness, I don't want to even think about a hypothetical scenario where, Hogan goes to West Coast, surely they score enough points as it is. :p

Plus I don't think I could handle it..

McCarthy's performance has dropped alarmingly over the course of the year. He was genuinely dangerous for the first half a dozen games but ever since he's been hopeless.
Without knowing the reason for that (it may well be injury) it's hard to dismiss him, but if it is because he doesn't have the work ethic and discipline then I wouldn't touch him, at least not for the price GWS will ask for.
With only a few exceptions, the vast majority of 1st and second year players drop off in performance in the second half of the year at AFL level. Everything I have read on McCarthy states that he is an outstanding trainer with a fantastic work ethic. It will cost a ton more than Clarke and our 1st pick to get him to Fremantle this off season. McCathry has kicked more goals than Roughead, Pav and Riewolt did in their second years. It is far more likely we will have a chance to get him to Fremantle when his contract is up in 2017.

I want Schulz & Hogan. And Bennell, but only as long as he doesn't end up in the...

Geddit?

Aw screw you then.

why is no one keen on Carlisle...that would allow for Alex to be more Forward line based.

A. He seems like a dickhead, not in the I like to party mode. Just a genuine dickhead.
B. He has no heart at all as evidenced by his 2015.
C. Can only play back, shown he is no forward.
D. Wants a fair chunk of $$$
E. Would require us to trade a minimum of our first rounder
F. Unlikely he'd be interested in going to WA

1. Harley Bennell? Steer clear. Very clear. If anything, a homecoming can make problems worse, not better. He seems like he needs drug and alcohol rehab, anger management and social behavior counseling. Hopefully he'll get that.

2. Jay Schulz? Take him, but only if Lachie Neale is allowed to slap him back, after Schulz did that to him and copped a $1,000 fine. Here's how I imagine that going down, with Lachie up second: . Seriously, though, as Dennis Cometti says, "I like him." Sharpshooter, good runner, good forward target.

3. Lewis Jetta? Yes. Love his lightning speed and he's a fairly good kick. Love the idea of him burning up one wing and Hilly burning up the other, with T-Train and D-Pearce providing some run out of the backline.

4. Jake Carlisle? We're dreamin'. He's not leaving Victoria. Carlton and St Kilda, even in as bad shape as they are, are more likely landing spots.

5. Jesse Hogan? Love him, but don't see him leaving Melbourne. Love the posibility of his coming west and after Pav retires, renaming the forward line "Hogan's Heroes."

6. Jeremy Howe? REALLY like him, but is there more to him than his frequent flying heroics? Is he any kind of decent kick?

7. Dare we even dream of Patrick Dangerfield? What if we pull a Sydney and surprise everyone and spirit him away from Adelaide, Geelong and Hawthorn? If he comes in, we move Nat Fyfe to center half forward — after completing an off-season goal-kicking boot camp in the Himalayas.

None of the above - Go for Dixon. I don't care he has nominated Port. Remember someone who nominated us and left at the last minute to go to Melbourne

To be honest I think Bennell is very talented at getting into trouble so no thank you .Simpson had more talent and despite everything we did we couldn't keep him on the path to greatness so this tool has history . The best he will get is a Rookie pick and that is a big maybe as well.
Jeda wants to play with Nic Nat so no matter what we offered it wouldn't get the job done
Carlisle G M A Fing Break He has not shown anything that convinces me that he will solve anything except that he would cost overs and deliver unders .
Schultz is a short term fix but he is a proven performer , so he would be my first trade deal . Recruiting is something else . Fremantle needs a genuine HFF and Ugle from Peel would be my first choice . I also want Shane Yarran from Subiaco . My ruckman \ forward is Cammeron from Claremont .
I dont think its fair to compare Simpson and Bennell. one was just not that keen on being an afl footballer (from the reports ive heard hes doing fine now) the other has some serious challenges to face.

Get it done freo!

Bennell has a history at Gold coast of stuffing up .This was his 3rd big one .
Firstly he turned up to training under the influence .
second was the drugs and now the altercation at the Night Club .
He is a serious talent but he was told after the drug episode he had to keep his nose clean he was judged by his actions rather than his words and this was the straw that broke the camels back .
