I caught the end of an interview with Brendon on ABC Radio today with Whateley, Alves, McClure and Chris Grant.

Did anyone hear the entire interview.

.

I heard the whole interview and Brendan made some good points

But I tell you what Chris Grant also made a good impression

Do you mind sharing these good points if its not too much hassle?

I only remember some of it put Chris said it was very close and Cameron was very unlucky. Also said Brendans strength was in the development side of the players.I know ABC radio might podcast it will try to find it and put a link up

Chris also mentioned that the club worked out a specific criteria they were looking for in the next coach. This criteria was what suited the Bulldogs but other clubs would have different criteria ... depending where there list and club were positioned. He gave the example that Melbourne would be looking for something different than the dogs.

He added that any of the experienced coaches that they talked with did not meet this criteria but three of the "first time" coaches met the criteria very highly. I imagine these were McCartney, Cameron ....... not sure who the other one would have been.

It was a good discussion to listen to.

My transition to accepting Brendan McCartney as our coach is now complete, I believe.

While skimming through the Chicago Tribune this beautiful autumn morning something caught my eye: "McCartney-composed ballet debuts". Of course, Paul is the McCartney implied, yet my thoughts immediately went to 'our' McCartney and I wondered what amazing talent the man has: coaching footy and dabbling in the arts. :p

I did hear some of the interview on ABC yesterday. McCartney was asked about Lake, about where he thinks he should play. He said he wanted him to play Full Back. He thinks players should play where their best position is first and foremost. He said great full backs like Lake don't grow on trees.

He said, like all players, great and not so great, they all need to be fit to deliver. He wants Brian just to get his fitness back to give himself the chance to play the rigors of AFL.

I was so happy to hear that. As much as we'd love Brian to be the answer forward, I don't think he plays the position well. I think his goal kicking is not up to it also. As a result I reckon Brian does not want to have to take the shots....anyway Macca says he'll be played most as full back.

Won't it be great if we can get Lake back to his best, controlling the backline, now and then doing our head in with his crazy decisions...I miss Brian.

Macca says he will work players to teach them how to play football. He says he knows how to teach people to play the game. He knows how it needs to be played, he will teach it, those that can't learn he will work with until they get it or until they find guys that can.

I will be watching with interest how this evolves, lot of talent on our list if this guy can turn on the light for them it could be amazing. Time will tell.

McCartney is a bit of a question talker...

"Turk: Look J.D, I've gotta go, I can't be late... I got a new attending-plus, he's a question talker.
J.D.: What's a question talker?
The New Attending: Do I want you to be on time, Dr. Turk? Yes I do, Am I going to remember this? Of course I am.
"

Looking at the Data :)
The cats in the last five years three flags one runner up and a prem final and before that a few shots in the finals, which Mcartney had a major say in

Lets hope he can take us somewhere

Cool I'll let him know at the next East West day, that some doggies supporters think he's boring, might motivate him to crack some lame jokes once in a while.

I will take boring if he brings a flag. What stupid comments!!

One of those comments was sarcastic, so 'what a stupid comment' would be more accurate.

I tend to agree though. I couldn't give a rats tossbag if he is funny or not. He needs to deliver the goods, that is all.

He's funny looking surely that counts for something... Seriously I have a good feeling about him... Bring on 2012

I think Brendan McCartney will be good at our club. The club went for him over Leon Cameron even though he was the frontrunner but they must have seen his assistant coaching experience and that was the factor in luring him to the Bulldogs. As fred cook said in a previous post he did quite well when he was assistant at Geelong.
