McCartney to coach Bulldogs

Geelong wanted to appoint someone from outside the club, so I don't think he even interviewed for it.

While Chris's appointment (over Sando and Hinkley) was partly about getting someone with no previous connection to the playing group, that wasn't why Macca wasn't interviewed. Realising the importance of youth in our future and the good work he's done with some of our youngest players, the club asked him, and offered the job of heading up the development academy (which he would have been fantastically good at IMO) but he had senior coaching aspirations and wanted to retain a match day role, hence the move to Essendon. He's a very good communicator and teacher and I think he's a great choice by your club.

Attached is a link to McCartney's interview on SEN this morning.

Sounds impressive, he was on triple mmm and 927 as well but not online as yet. There is also an interview with Mark Thompson during which he commends the club for not making the easy decision, I assume referring to no Cameron.

Luke Darcy was critical last night on One week at a time that the club refused an interview request with him last night, maybe he was just gearing up for this morning.

At least the playing and coaching changes will keep us interested for a little while longer...

Interesting info from SNF:

The Bulldogs confirmed highly rated and long serving assistant Brendan McCartney as Eade’s appointment on Monday.

The appointment didn’t go down as smoothly internally as Dogs officials wanted.

Caretaker coach Paul Williams didn’t turn up for work Whitten Oval after being told he had missed out on the top job.

Senior assistant and former Dogs player Brett Montgomery is understood to have left the Dogs home ground base as soon as he was told of McCartney’s appointment and that he had also missed out.

It is understood that hot favourite and former Dogs playing star Leon Cameron got told he had been overlooked very late on Sunday night, after the decision was made to appoint McCartney.

I guess that makes some of the assistant coach questions a little less complicated.

I lik German and Peter Dean actually. I think they have done decent work - hope they stay on and McCartney brings in his own midfield and forward coaches.

It has been mentioned, the selection committee turned up late at Cameron's home to inform him. I have little doubt Cameron would have appreciated their desire to inform him once the decision was made given his current position at the Hawks. It's just a shame that the general community thought he was a shoe in. The news must have been hard to take.

As for other two, if true, well their true colours are showing. They obviously saw the door as they exited, don't worry about walking back through it. New coaches generally bring their own people, the writing on the wall as to their future may been written in Technicolor.

Wow. Poor form by Monty and Williams. Very poor form.
I wonder if this will impact on their positions at the club? You dont want your AC's cracking the shits when they don't get their way...
Not a good look for them.

I hope so. We can only pray that Macca will cleanout a few assistants and start again. :thumbsu:

if that is true it is good news, one can only hope we could get rid of Williams, Monty and Dean in one fell swoop (their should be a terminate clause for those not prepared to show up to work). We dont have to pay them out and new coaches can be hired.

Williams and especially Monty must have rocks in their heads if they really thought he was going to get the job.

Apologies if this is a bs article by sportsnewsfirst though

I would not take what Hagdorn writes as gospel...wait and see.

Don't buy that.
Monty wasn't in the running for the job.
Why would he walk off?

Very happy man i am. I honestly didn't want Leon Cameron to coach the club not because he wasn't ready or not good enough no, It was mainly because I felt he was to close to the club and to close to the playing group and most of his assist work and resume would say he was an assist of Eade.

I love the fact we went for a real underdog and somebody who going by all reports is a great person and a great devolper of people. :thumbsu:

Does the press conference on the website end with 8:02 minutes to play? Was happening last night and is still doing it today. You'd think that they could at least fix it so we can watch the entire presser.

Yeah, same thing happened for me. It's a bit annoying, I would have liked to hear the rest :(

I understand that he's Sir Paul's 42nd cousin twice removed and that the Beatles, sans John who apparently can't make it, will reform to record an up beat, 60's style, version of "Sons of the 'Scray oops west.

You may struggle to get George on board that one.
