Amazing that so many are turning down the Wet toast role.

Happy Gia is staying on.
Yup. Looks like a few coaches in waiting saw that movie Sliding Doors, starring two aspiring coaches (Adam Yze and Adam Kingsley) who with similar resumes win senior coaching roles at very different clubs.

On the surface, it looks like Gia and Stants are doing a great job with the midfield to allow Caldwell and Durham to blossom and to make Parish more accountable.

Jacobs and Tapping look to be struggling. For Jacobs it looks more like a cattle issue. Same for Tapping, but it also looks very disorganised.

Genuine question - are the midfield coaches responsible for the delivery inside 50? Or is this more the remit of the fwd coaches?

Bit of a tough time to take over, their list demographic isn't great given so much of their older good players are the wrong side of 30, and basically everyone else is young.

Do you take the role, potentially wear 2 years of shitty results trying to rebuild, and risk getting shown the door? Hard to get a second chance as an AFL head coach.

Meanwhile you've got a few clubs in Melbourne that might open up vacancies in the next few years. Bevo was pretty close to an exit if the rumour mill was right earlier this year.

'Cattle issue' to a degree, but can't we get the players to not all lead to the one spot or worse drag their man into contests that they shouldn't be? Surely anyone can be coached to run dummy leads or put a block on.
Don't have to be top shelf to do little things like that...

Caracella could be on his way back to Richmond.

Could never figure out whether Caracella wants to be a senior coach or forever journey the wilderness of assistant coaching.

Weren't the wraps big early but got ahead of himself and when he was trying to over ride senior coaches behind there back was banished back to the VFL coaching gig?
Funny how people say banished to VFL coach yet the VFL coach is the second most important spot in the coaching department.
I think he my go as he is part of the previous regime.

They should be but the club doesn't share that attitude.

He did not do a bad job this year given we started with a bunch of inexperienced players and limited experience.
Problem is if he goes it is the third VFL coach in 3 years.

Cal Twomey saying this is confirmed now.

Shame it didn't work out. Was hoping he'd bring his continued success to us, but the Essington was too strong.

Blake going back to the Tigers shows just how bloody stupid it was to have him coach the VFL. The VFL job is the second most important coaching job in the footy department. He is the guy that has to get the young AFL listed guys and the VFL guys playing the same brand of footy so that players can come in and out of the side without too many issues.
Now we are in a spot where we will be signing our 4th VFL coach in 4 years and all the work done with the current young VFL group may get undone again.
It was a seriously stupid move to park Blake there if they knew he was likely to go.
We have basically screwed up the VFL program 3 years in a row now.
They need to sign someone as head of development / VFL coach and make it a 3 year gig so we can bed down a proper VFL system.
