They are.

2016 2nd rounder is very fair. Not sure how that isn't a good deal.

Judging by the contract Dees have offered I think a pick in the 30s next year is unders. Signing Lewis devalued that pick even further. A future pick second is worth less than a current second to start with....and this is a contracted player.

If deal breaks down and he stays then more chance he re-signs after that. Happy with that anyway. Personally I think Dees will blink.

Just posted this on the Essendon board, which should be agreeable to all parties:

Essendon Out: Hibberd, 41
Essendon In: Stewart, 23

GWS Out: Stewart, 23
GWS In: 2017 second, 41

Melbourne Out: 2017 second
Melbourne In: Hibberd

Obviously we'd do it.
Don't think you guys will need to pay anyting close to 41 for Stewart.

If we get a second for this years draft I don't think we'd use it.

Then we can possibly negotiate pick 1, 20, 23, 59, our future 2nd for 4, 6 and 8 hopefully from GC. We finish 10th and they get a nice 200-odd points boost for next year.

How is he not a fa if he doesnt sign an extension with any club for 2018?

I think u need to do some.research

The definition of a fa is very broad to cover old ground go ask JOM and prestia if they care theyre not eligible fas under the rules

Deeeeeeerp.

Nice edit. Realised how badly you stuffed that up and couldn't peddle away quick enough, could you?

Tell me again how Hibberd is a free agent at the end of 2017. Go ahead and count the years off on your fingers if you have to.

Tell me to do research.... you don't even comprehend the rules.

Essendon fans seem a bit upset and anxious about this. Unfortunately for them once Melbourne got Lewis the landscape changed, Hibberd is no longer a priority. It will probably still go ahead but it's not as important as it previously was.

I dont see that at all

We would prefer to keep hibberd than trade him for unders. Like we said we wouldnt stand in the way of a player that wanted out as long as the deal is fair for all.

The deal on the table is not fair from melbourne hence why essendon supporters are not interested in the trade.

a little bird told me that essendon should do the right thing by Hibberd given what they've put him through
Your little birds had no idea on the Lewis deal...

The deal is more than fair, if you consider what we paid for Lewis, who is a much better player, it's actually overs by a lot.

But Melbourne now have got the experience they were searching for do there is no urgency to get the deal done.

Bombers keeping Hibberd would be a good result, let's hope it works out like that

handy points for GWS' academy kids. they've got 5 this year and if Setterfield and Perryman get high bids in the top 15, i think they may be short on points.
That said, i didn't realise you can go into pick debt with F/S, so maybe the same applies to Academy picks.

either way, very happy with that deal
Stewart and 23 for Hibberd and 41 puts us in a good position to fill some holes.

not really. if it falls over, id be quite happy. Hibberd formed part of a strong back 6.
We got Hurley and Hooker back and replaced Carlisle with Hartley.
More than happy to have him back at essendon

I think it would be an ideal outcome but a lot of Essendon fans seem to be very anxious about how long it's taking. Look at all the posts.

Not sure anxious is the right word. We're all annoyed at the offer ofnext year's pick but all secretly (and not so secretly) hoping the deal falls over and another club - with this year's 2nd pick - comes along at the last minute.

Considering Melbourne had to wait for Melksham it's more than fair but let's all hope the trade doesn't go ahead

It'll get done, relax. I daresay we are looking for a third club so that we can hold on to a top 30 pick in this draft. If that can't be found before the deadline, we'll hand it over. Hibberd will be a demon.

Isn't Paul Connors the player manager? Ess will gave or it will get very ugly.
Well Connors said this morning on RSN that he thinks Essendon have been fair and that pick 29 is a fair deal.

So many shots. All of them OOTF from dead in front.

The same Connors who was just on radio saying Essendon have been extremely well to deal with this year?

100%.

And you'll love him too.

"I think Essendon has been wonderful in their dealings … I think they’ve been keen to get this going and I’ve respected their position of really wanting a pick in this year’s draft. There’s a lot of goodwill between Melbourne and Essendon and I’d be surprised if that’s not done very, very soon."

can we put this whole 'Essendon are hard to deal with therefore they are the reason every trade doesn't get done' theory to bed now?

OR do people just want to continue to run with it as an uneducated quip?

actually, i think you'll find we take slight exception to being labelled unreasonable when we didn't change the terms of the deal.
2016 2nd is fair. it knocks you out of the draft, but thats what happens when you trade picks for players.
You got Oliver (who may have slipped, but i know we had decisions to make over parish and oliver to pair with francis), you'll get hibberd.
As a result, you should expect to be out of the draft.

Asking us to bend our demands while you are seeking our player, then calling us difficult, is a bit rich.
