Player Watch Mid-Season Pick #13 (2021) - Jed McEntee

Hadnt heard of him before today, but I like his highlight reel. Frenetic pressure as well as a bit of goal sense. If he can get to AFL level could be the type to arrest our first quarter blues.

Also with our biggest outs being Duurs and Butters, he seems to fit the mould for the depth we need right now this season.

In short, I like it.

I think he looks great in the highlights... as a mid. He would offer a point of difference... as a mid. I really hope we give him a chance in the midfield.

Really like his highlights. Won't die wondering. Also appears to have a great habit of staying on his feet post contest to go again and again. Good speed. Could see him playing the odd game. Way better pick than Sutcliffe.

Will be played as a pressure forward if he makes it to the big league.

Clearly not a spud, was a regular in underage state teams.

interesting that he is a good tackler .. will form a good team with Drew & SPP (with tackling)

This is a good pick and is reflective of how we should be using the mid-season draft. Pick the young guys you were interested in at a previous draft who didn't end up getting taken. I have enough faith in our recruiters that if we were interested in him previously he's got potential.

Especially when youve been able to see another 6 months of them against men in sanfl and can already get a good idea of whether your hunch was right or wrong.

Never worry about what team a player “supported” growing up.

Always a wary of highlight packages because of the selection bias. But the intensity of his tackling really stands out, which is not exactly the greatest strength of the current team.

From what we have heard, there seems to be a preference to experiment with him as a small forward, rather than as a mid (outside of pinch hitting), but he doesn't have enough revealed experience in that position to know whether that will work.

Anyway, happy enough with the pick and here's hoping he makes it. If not, he will help the Maggies!
