Injury Mitch Clark to miss 6-8 weeks

This injury has been completely mismanaged by the medical staff. Lisfranc surgery requires 14 weeks (they cut through the ligament - (ligaments and tendons take 14 weeks to heal. bones knit in 6-9, muscle 4-5, skin coaptes in 1-2). why they are taking a screw out is beyond me. a screw is not required in lisfranc surgery. A kirchner wire or pin should have been used that stays their indefinetely and permanently sticks the bone together. The surgeon tried an obsolete procedure and it failed. An orthotic should also be in his football boots to maintain congruence and stability of the region as a safe-guard.

Yes, a lisfranc fracture/injury is a bastard of an injury, but it should have been resolved a long time ago and the area should be as strong (if not stronger) than the rest of his foot. a young healthy male like mitch should have no problems post surgically, save a postoperative infection.

And no, im not a keyboard warrior. Im a medical practitioner and a melbourne supporter. I actually went to school for this and I work in foot surgery.

Sorry fellow dees fans.

SHIT NEWS.

But upgrade a rookie in Magnar while help

AND Jack Watts looked decent as a fwd last week.

Play him in the same fwd line as Dawes and Gawn/howe for the next 8 weeks. This is Jacks time to stand up and lead our attack.

We know he has the skills, he is a lot close to having the body, and he can share the load with a gorilla in Dawes, rather than a whippet in Jurrah.

How have they failed mate?

All reports say that the Lisfranc repair is doing well - I wouldn't call that failing.

Maybe it's a method you wouldn't have used, but it's a method the surgeon used by the club decided to employ - and it sounds more like a long term fix rather then the approach of getting him back as quickly as possible.

And Mitch looked like he could still run, kick and jump just as well as ever.

Hi puppetmaster,

In an ossous procedure such as this, if there is still pathology in the region following an osseous (bone) procedure after 5 months, the surgery is classed as 'unsuccessfull'. ie if an athlete cannot return to his original level of activity after this period of time.

after this time frame:

- local swelling is still to be expected (this is the case with all foot surgey, be it bunion correction, ankle reconstruction or hammertoe correction.
- paresthesia (tingling and numbness) is almost always still there (nerves regenerate at 1mm per month).

other than that the person is generally good to go.

this result would be frowned upon. the procedure i mentioned is what people in the industry do now, i havent heard of screws being used for this in a long time (the joint is quite small and screws are quite big, and they need to be taken out most of the time).

Ok, thanks for explaining it!

Let's hope this 6-8 week period will cover the extent of his troubles.

I don't think so. Stranger still, I think we average more points without Clark this season.
Memory isn't all it could be but I don't think he's played in a winning H&A match with us yet.. other than against GWS where we were down when he went off and played a match winning quarter without him. Of course that doesn't mean I'm not shattered that he's out for so long and that we won't get to see our forward line set up as we recruited it to be for a couple more months.

edit:
I better qualify that comment before someone jumps down my throat. Since Clark arrived we seem to have seen a return to the old "kick it to Neitz" concept where the opposition only need to cut out the main forward to shut down, or at least minimise, our scoring. With a second quality tall in the forward line the opposition can't do that and it opens up other scoring options. "Quality tall" means Dawes, not Sellar or Pederson so we have yet to see that setup in action.

Played in the Essendon win last year, although he had little impact in that game from memory.

The positivity regading Magner is a bit weird.

VFL midfielder for star FF.

I know, finding positives and etc. but still

****.

My thoughts exactly mate. I don't think he will truly add anything to the side that we don't already have.

Thanks TPM

It's a surgery was going to happen after the season anyway so now he can be right for a full pre season and come back fully fit next year.

Too much?

I'll let those gifs slide as there is a David Brent one in there. Classic scene too.

"Do it yourself I've got to save some Africans!!!!

Oh dear, he was a great pickup for you guys and looked promising.

Yeah, you're right mate. There could never be too many gifs, could there? Not even possible!

PS- Laughed my arse off when I saw CA's sneaky ninja edit too. Cheeky bugger :p

Cannot get through a single week without A) drugs B) tanking C) Injuries/suspensions D) Massive loss or E) All of the above

True story I was out having tea with my folks and my dad was saying the usual "Dee's did alright on Sunday" followed by the whole "yeah but I wish they won, should be better next week with Dawes and Clark I honestly can't wait". About 5 seconds after my comment that muppet on channel 7 news says "and it's more bad news at the Dees"

It was almost like life deciding that there is literally no upside to being a supporter, ever.
