I’m the goose?
“The freeway was designated Ring Road 80 when its first stage opened, quickly replaced by Metropolitan Route 80 in 1992, and extended across successive stages as they opened. With Victoria's conversion to the newer alphanumeric system in the late 1990s, this was updated to M80 in 1997 (for the sections not declared a National Highway).”
Yeah Broadmeadows link was opened in 1992, most of the roads after this were during Kennetts era. He was at the grand opening of the EJ Whitten bridge cutting the ribbon so this nonsense he wasn't around during any phase of the road is just that utter nonsense.I’m the goose?

I must have you rattled if you have to quote me twice! And could you back pedal any quicker? I was the goose for pointing out the Western Ring Road opened in 1992?Yeah Broadmeadows link was opened in 1992, most of the roads after this were during Kennetts era. I'll concede I was out by a couple of years with when it opened. Still doesn't change the rest of what I saidYeah Broadmeadows link was opened in 1992, most of the roads after this were during Kennetts era. Is that the LNP’s solution or have you just made that up? I’d love to hear what your solution is and I’m sure the government would too as they have absolutely no clue.
BTW, 23.47% of the 65,000 cars stolen Australia wide in 2023 were stolen in Victoria. Have you wondered why our car insurance premiums have risen?
So your not even going to concede your great mate was there throughout all of the opening of the other parts of the road up until 1999 your just going to with Labor started it so if it was poorly designed it's their fault. Despite the fact Kennett had 8 years to do something about it. Come on mate your love for the bloke is blinding your judgement.I must have you rattled if you have to quote me twice! And could you back pedal any quicker? I was the goose for pointing out the Western Ring Road opened in 1992?
The Western Ring Road was started by a Labor government not by Kennett as you claimed. As I said earlier every freeway in Melbourne has been extended or widened since the original iterations were opened. It’s what happens
The fact you had to fact check to back up what you are trying to say tells me you don't really know so not quite sure where the self righteousness is coming from.I must have you rattled if you have to quote me twice! Funny how you and other lefties change your tune . Firstly the story was Kennett privatised like he was the first only and last leader to do that. That’s been debunked. So now it’s “he privatised more than anyone else”.
In 1990 when Victoria was forced to sell our bank, the State Bank of Victoria, Paul Keating warned that the dire financial woes of Victoria “threatened to destabilise the national economy”.
That is why Kennett privatised. And with the SECV he only sold what Kirner hadn’t previously sold. So stop pretending Kennett was solely responsible for privatisation of thE SECV.
You talk about me being disingenuous. How about you stop being disingenuous and admit Kennett did what had to be done get Victoria out of a colossal hole that threatened to destabilise the national economy?
yeah, it does, i recall scotch squeezed money out of the government (Kennett era) when they were widening the monash to encroach on the school grounds. They did seriously suggest it should be widened the other way (and take out part of St Kevin's)What has Scotch College got to do with anything? Doesn’t even border the freeway
ah, so the pentecostals will take him out closer to the election/ post election thenThe Age reporting in multiple articles that Battin is "non-religious" and a "self-described atheist".
Apologies for bringing that news to the peanut gallery of BigFooty!
Just read this report to get a feeling for what things were like. You were obviously too young to remember:for someone who rails about disinformation, you’re pretty good at it yourself.
i have not said, nor have i read, where peeps have said big mouth was the only leader to flog off government-owned assets. what i have said is he did it to a degree no one in recent history has and, most importantly, flogged off key essential infrastructure. big mouth not only sold off electricity, he also flogged off gas, public transport, water and sewerage, ports, prisons, and countless other smaller utilities like public trustees and printing. he was about to go further by flogging our hospitals and came close with latrobe, but it was returned to public hands by bracks. no one has been as extreme as big mouth. fortunately, we got rid of him before he flogged off everything.
“destabilise the national economy”, you poor, sad, indoctrinated individual. the state was never in the parlous financial position your mob claimed, and i know they had an internal report that told them so, which they buried. the state could have recovered without the massive sell-off, it would have just taken a little longer.
you conveniently have a mental block when it comes to the distinction between what could be seen as business assets like qantas and essential services like electricity, gas, water, etc.
we live in a capitalist environment with all its faults and failures, and i was viewing things through that prism. making the best of it if you want.
in the best of all possible worlds, i’d have very little under private ownership. nor would i be enriching greedy peeps like rhinehart and palmer by allowing them the access they have to public land.
it’s capitalist wannabes like you that the oligarchs feed off. peeps who can’t see the damage the greed, avarice, selfishness, and corruption so associated with capitalism are doing. i’d add incompetence.
edit
the pesutto v deeming thing is done and dusted. perhaps a mod could start a new thread and move the recent chatter there.
If you say he was.
Western Ring Road wasn’t even the most important freeway in the Kennett era. Citylink was. To say a road system that connected four major freeways and allowed motorists to bypass the City using tunnels was easily the biggest and most important. The

From the Archives, 1990: Victoria sells debt-laden State Bank
In 1990, the Victorian State Government agreed to sell the State Bank of Victoria to the Commonwealth Bank to avoid it collapsing under its heavy debts.www.theage.com.au
Every time it gets widened - and it has happened at least twice - Scotch make a fortune. I think Scotch have the only section of private land. St Kevin’s don’t have enough land as it is.yeah, it does, i recall scotch squeezed money out of the government (Kennett era) when they were widening the monash to encroach on the school grounds.
