What about the mixed marriages, where a Pies supporter makes the horrendous mistake of marrying beneath them, to a Carlton or Essendon supporter. This reckless choice endangers the future outlook and sanity of offspring. It also makes for very strained relationships on certain days, and awkward silences when one visits the 'happy couple' in the aftermath of a Pies win (one tends not to visit after a Pies loss).

Loki if the numbers 70,79 and 81 resonate with you you will get the Carlton hatred. Sounds like it could be generational. One thing I do enjoy these days is anyone under the age of 40 only really has strong memories of Carlton being a basket case.

I guess it's analogous to folks of our generation not understanding the rivalry with Melbourne (the super young will be thinking "WTF, we have a rivalry with Melbourne??? ")

How old are you loki? If you're too young to remember the 70's and early 80's I could understand the lack of anti-Carlton sentiment. But for those who do remember, there will never be another hatred like it. I don't even enjoy going to games against the filthy arrogant bastards. I don't like Essendon at all. Especially after the events of the last couple years, but I don't hate them anywhere near as much as Carlton

Not only did the Carlton supporters continually taunt us during that period, their club officials & President would laugh at our misfortune.
After the 79 Grand Final loss to Carlton.
Carltons President when interviewed on the Sunday/Monday stated "what's better than beating Collinwood by 100 points? Beating them by 5 points in a Grand Final" hahahaha.
They use to love rubbing it in. Every single living Collingwood supporter absolutely hates Carlton with a passion after that period.
I remember a friend of mine (Brisbane supporter) said to me in 2003, "I guess you now hate us as much as you hate Carlton?" I said NO...nowhere near it...no competition.
It wasn't just the Grand Final losses...it was the attitude of their supporters & their club in general.
I hope they never win another Premiership...ever. I can't say that about any other club.

She took a dislike to him when she heard about he and his mates lighting up.... I tried to tell her that he wasnt talking about cigarettes but she looked at me puzzlingly. I think I saw somewhere where James Hird admitted to taking a puff of something illegal....but he said that he didnt breath it in. A legal technicality but he was adamant that he never had anything to do with illegal weed. Evidently, he didnt sniff through the straw either. There's a trend emerging here.
