What about the mixed marriages, where a Pies supporter makes the horrendous mistake of marrying beneath them, to a Carlton or Essendon supporter. This reckless choice endangers the future outlook and sanity of offspring. It also makes for very strained relationships on certain days, and awkward silences when one visits the 'happy couple' in the aftermath of a Pies win (one tends not to visit after a Pies loss).

There are advantages. It gives a valid reason not to talk to the wife for months on end. I've always thought that a sound marriage is based on a total lack of communication.

My hatred for Essendon has nothing to do with the drug saga.

Don't know why anyone would hate them more because of what they are going through now. Yes it's been dragging on for years but they must defend themselves until there is no more to defend. Their clubs reputation is on the line here and they are not going to give up. I love the drug saga and I am not over it because the longer it goes on the more damage it does to Essendon.

I don't really hate clubs because of their success against Collingwood, can't blame them for wanting to win and being better than us. My hatred is at the supporters and I have no doubt Essendon and Hawthorn have the worst supporters in the AFL. StKilda a close third.

You could have a decent football chat with a Carlton supporter at least but good luck trying to have a chat with an Essendon supporter. They will just turn the conversation in to all about Essendon and how they think they are a good chance of making top 4. They are all the same.

I admit that I have a bad case of Tall Poppy Syndrome, so I hate neither.

Seriously, if Carlton FC were out front of Woolies this morning rattling a tin, I'd donate money.

You can't be a true Collingwood supporter then.
Surely the right option is to steal it, (only because it's them ;))

I grew up in Moonee Ponds - deep Essendon territory. And now after many years of avoiding the general area find myself back and living in Essendon 🤪

I was the only pies supporter in my year level through both Primary and Secondary and so nearly all of my friends growing up (most of whom I still hang out with) were and are Essendon supporters.

I can’t stand them, I’d love for them to cease to exist - I used to cop sh!t from their supporters even when we beat them!

I definitely don’t like Carlton but they have been so poor for so long and I’ve never really known many Carlton supporters so they don’t come near Essendon in the hatred stakes for me.

this is the same story with me and the Tigers. Tigers can go and get stuffed and i am ashamed i gave them a few bucks back in the save our skins days!

LOL there is no competition.

I was at my first GF that fateful Saturday in 1970. Late in the second quarter Tuddy half killed Macca with a classic friendly fire, Macca at that stage had 5 and was busy tearing the scum several new arseholes but that was basically the end of that with our spearhead groggy thereafter. Barassi later took the credit for the win with his 'play on at all costs' but after the match at Jolimont station and on the train home the Scum fans were atrocious.

1979 . . . Harmes . . . I was there . . . it was out . . . Jolimont station and the train trip even worse.

Twice the scum have benefited from our misfortune and have rubbished us high and low.

No . . . there is no other team that comes within the same continuum as my LOATHING for the scum and their scumbag supporters.

Long may they writhe in squalor at the bottom of the sludge pond.

I “hate” Richmond most this week. Next week I’ll “hate” West Coast most and the week after it’ll be the Bulldogs. The concept of allocating negative energy towards an opposition club is one I’ve never agreed with because, IMO, it’s just energy that should have been positively invested in our club.

For instance there was this one flog in particular during Buckley’s live presser on Instagram this week. He was an Essendon “supporter” that went full nuffy labeling Collingwood this and that. Given the nature of the comments I couldn’t help wondering whether there were more serious psychological issues at play...

Do you guys think the satisfaction of beating Carlton or Essendon has changed over the years? I wonder what it will be like with the next generation of fans.

Personally, I can't remember the last time I even considered Carlton a opponent or relevant. Always good to beat Essendon on Anzac day though.

It's irrelevant that the scum are irrelevant.

From the president down to the bootstudder and from the oldest fan to the youngest they are just so eminently deserving . . . .

. . . . of everything that that can possibly go wrong for their football club. . .

. . . . period.

Will you all still be my buddies if I confess that I hate neither? I do find some Essendon fans to be annoying...

Don't judge me, I'll see myself out.

I don't judge any pies supporter that didn't live through the '70's and the shit that scum fans produced.

I was around jonbe, just too young to remember events before the 80s. The earliest GF I remember is 1979. :(

The simple truth is Carlton are tolerable because they're hopeless. If they climb the ladder, they'll quickly return to the number 1 hated team.

Carlton will always be nemesis #1. Gotta maintain traditions. But currently I feel that our main rivalry is with Richmond, because Carlton are irrelevant. I actually hope the blues improve, despite all this, so that we can have the kind of sellout games with them that we do with bitch mond.
